Help. DowntownDM?

Has anybody dealt with a forum member by the name of DowntownDM?

I offered to buy his Tom Anderson Nukupod that he had up for sale a few weeks ago.

We worked out a deal through PM, and I sent out the MO the next day.

That was about 3 weeks ago. And that is where things started to get weird.

I waited a few days, heard nothing, then sent a PM. Nothing.
Sent an email, and then finally got a response saying that he got my MO, and would send out the item no later than the next morning.

Next day rolled around, nothing, then the next, and the next, and so on.

I have sent in a PM and 2 emails...nothing still.

Now before I did any of this, I checked his feedback, and he seemed like an upstanding member of BF, and none of this would have bothered me, but he visits every day, posts in the Busse forum showing off his INFI, and yet refuses to respond to any of my messages?

Strange. :confused:

I really don't want to jump to conclusions as it is still early, and he seemed honest enough, but this whole transaction has been a little strange, and I would really hate to wait until it was too late to do something about it.

Anyway, besides waiting around some more, any suggestions?

I really just want to know what is going on.
 
I would be a little PO'ed also if he was still posting but not responded to my messages. Send him a link to this thread and then see what happens. Good luck

I still haven't given up on this deal, but it does seem
strange that he is purposely avoiding contact with me.

Anybody have any information on this person?

Goes by David McCutcheon.

any word? I see you called him out in a thread that he was happy to post in multiple times until you came along. I have a hard time believing he isnt ignoring you. Complete BS if you ask me, another person on the do not deal with list, thanks for the heads up.

No, I have yet to hear from him, although I am certain he is aware of what has been happening, in both this section, as well as my posts in the Busse subforum.

Normally, I would be giving him the benefit of the doubt in this situation, but seeing him log on every day and making posts while completely ignoring me...it's like hes trying to $!#& on me. He just took my money and walked away without even thinking about it...

To be honest, I'm getting pretty frustrated with this whole situation, but trying to remain optimistic. He seemed like a nice guy, so I am hoping things will work out. But if he is sitting there thinking this thing is just going to blow over...

Well, I guess we will have to wait and see. Again, any help/information is greatly appreciated.

Three weeks is a long time to wait; I think you're being patient.

Be prepared to post a negative rating. Also send this thread to a mod like Esav and ask them how to proceed.
 
Poor communication = bad deal

I cannot say that enough, nothing makes a deal go South quicker than a break in communications.

If you are engaged in a deal of ANY kind, you are obligated to stay in contact with each other until all parties are satisfied and happy!!!

If you cannot do something as simple as that you should NOT be allowed to buy, sell or trade here....................

Yeah, this part of the whole thing is especially ridiculous. As suggested by ASBOB, you should probably send a mod to a link to this thread to see what advice they have about how to move forward. Three weeks is more than enough time to have waited, especially given that the person is obviously active and receiving your communications (and then blatantly ignoring them).

Did you use delivery confirmation or registered mail when sending the money order? If you did (or have other proof that he received/cashed it) and don't end up receiving your knife, I'm sure USPS Postal Inspectors would be very interested if you were to file a mail fraud complaint against Mr. McCutcheon.

I don't think I will be hearing from him anytime soon though.

I didn't think to use delivery confirmation, since it was only a MO.
If it got lost, nobody would be able to cash it except him, and at the time,
I didn't expect him to be a thief...

I don't really know what to do...just take the loss I guess.
Being a college student with minimal disposable income makes
it a little harder to shake off though...*sigh*...

How can I get in contact with a "supermod"?

Man, some people sure sell their integrity for peanuts.

To be a publically outted dishonest POS with no integrity, credibility, honesty and no word as one's bond for a few bucks is mind boggling. I would have thought this all was just poor communication, but at this stage it looks like another idiot ruining their rep for zippo.

That amount may not mean a lot to some, but again, it does to me. It's also not just the money, I'm sure everyone has had something taken from them at one point or another, it sucks. I trusted him without a doubt, sent my money to him, and this is what happened.

I was a little confused too, I thought the deal was just going to be smooth sailing, but a mod, Jaxx over at the Busse forum already tried contacting him, and now Esav has as well. Both asking him to contact me, and I have yet to hear anything.

The MO was USPS, but I am not so sure there is anything I can do.

Pretty bummed. :(

I thought exactly the same thing when I looked up the sales thread and saw the amount. All the more bizarre that he continues to post here as if nothing had happened (all while ignoring the OP) -- not as though he just took the money and was never seen again on the forums as often happens with these things.

Edit: Fuzillade, I don't think wolfmann (or I) meant to imply that it was a trivial amount for you to have been ripped off for, just that it's a small amount for a man to throw away his reputation for. What the guy did was wrong, and you have every right to be upset, regardless of the amount that was taken from you, be it $1, $100, $1000, or anything else.

I am with you on this one ALL THE WAY, let's get this guy to shell out what he owes us or get him out of here, and in some trouble with the POST OFFICE. I have receipts and info. still on my purchase. PM and We'll get with Esav soon. Oh, and PM his most recent comment, time to pay him a visit. Oh and his name yes, David McCutcheon. Horrible communication and potentially a lying thief. DowntownDM you better speak up and let us know WTF is up now!

Bring your copy to the post office. You'll have to pay a small fee and they'll trace it and find out if it was cashed or not, and if so what the signature looks like. If it hasn't been cashed after 30 days you can cancel it and get your money back. If it has been cashed, it's mail fraud and they will be very interested in that.

Would you care to elaborate on your situation? Post it here so people can see what is up. If you aren't too comfortable doing that, would you mind sending me a PM?

Your right, if nothing happens, we should take action, at least try to get our money back at the very least...not sure if I have my receipt still, but I'll look around and see what I can do.

I'll be sure to keep posting if things come up.

I am not making light of the amount, what I am saying is that it is mind boggling that someone would chuck their integrity and credibility in the sewer, with little hope of ever rebuilding it (here) for such a small amount of money.

If one chucks his integrity away he or she best do it for six or more figures because (for me anyway) it is a forever event. To do it for less makes no sense to us honest folk, that's all.

I am on your side............

I understood what you meant, in no way was I insulted or butthurt over your comment. I was just emphasizing that this situation is a bit painful since I really don't have a lot of disposable income...

It really baffles me that he would have built up that reputation on this forum, only to throw it all away for $200-300...seems like he needs to get his priorities in order.
