Help me choose a knife under $150!!!

I was just there a few weeks ago. Don't be surprised if they don't have everything you want to look at. Yes they have a lot. But not everything. Especially Spydercos.

There was lots to look and and I did get to fondle a few knives I've only seen pictures of.

Did they have a big ZT section? :p

You can buy a Spyderco Sage 2 for pretty close to that money...one of my very favorite folders of all time...a REAL classic.
Have fun on your trip.

Two recommendations:

Spyderco Gayle Bradley. The original model, while it's still available, or the "II" when it comes available. One of the finest folding knives ever made, in my opinion.

Benchmade 710. Although it has a 4" blade, it's compact and carries like a 3.5" model. It has become my most carried knife even though I have mostly preferred 3" to 3.5" blades. I rank it close to the Gayle Bradley in quality and utility.

Right now, my two choices are the benchmade 710 or the ZT 0566BW, I am going to look at both while I'm there and pick. Thanks!

The 710 is an awesome knife and one of my favorites. It really does carry a lot smaller than most ~ 4" blades.

I love the design of the 710, what is really holding me back from it is the D2, because I'm really bad at sharpening, and I hear that D2 is very hard to sharpen, how has your experience been with it? is it hard to maintain and sharpen?

Yup. What he said. Manix LW in s110v fills your criteria and it's an amazing knife.

That was one of my original choices, but what I didn't like about it is that it has no liners. Therefore it was out of the question for me since i need a very strong lock. Thanks for recommending it though!

I always love going there. Haven't been since February. That's when I bought my ZT 0566bw for around 144 with military discount. I loved it and then hated it and now I love it again lol. I was debating between that and a 0350. I wish I would've spent a little more and gotten the 0300 or 0200. I just didn't want something that big at the time. My dad just got an esee 4 with a sheath there for 80 bucks. If you can catch a sale they're great but smkw is usually over priced. Still love looking around

D2 takes a while to resharpen once dull. Don't let it get dull, just maintain the edge with frequent touch-ups. Both my 710s came extremely sharp and I only maintain the edges on Spyderco ceramic stones and a strop block. But, yeah...it can be a bear to return to sharpness if you let it get really dull.

How do you recommend maintaining the edge? I know it has a recurve and I'm wondering if that has any effect on sharpening?

Spyderco Sharpmaker. I sharpen all my recurves, hawkbills and reverse "s" blades with the SM and it works great. Given how slight the recurve is on the 710 you should be able to use either the corners or the flats of the rods. As Lee48 said, regular maintenance will make your life much easier. Give your knife a quick touchup every now and then on the sharpmaker. This will take about 30 seconds (on any steel) and you will always have a screaming sharp knife in your pocket.
