Help me name my new Black Puppy

I did consider Shadow - many, many times. My first Lhasa Apso, almost identical coloring as this puppy, was named Shadow. And my next male Lhasa was also Shadow (no, not at the same time!). Sophie and Shadow sound great together.

And I can't call him Sophie. He's a boy, silly.

I do like Marky. I had a great cat I named Markie, after my cousin Mark that I got her from. Coyote dinner 8-1/2 years later.

Now why does the name Mark ring a bell? Hm-m-m-m-m.

Yes, Rosconey, I keep changing my mind. Help!

Some great names have been suggested. I'm such a wooooosh.

TJ

Have you thought about the name Cougar Allen, Judy.:D

I just adopted another dog (Boston Terrier) - he's 3 and came with his name. I didn't like it at first, but it's grown on me -

Obi

As in Obi-Won from Star Wars....

When I was a kid I had a beagle named Ralph - so did 4 other kids in the county. My Uncle gifted the dogs to us on the condition that they were all named Ralph... even the girl dogs.

Greetings!

I am getting a new puppy on Tuesday. A Lhasa Apso (I'm addicted to them) male who is 6 months old. His current name is Tango. The name doesn't thrill me.

I am considering Baa-Baa, from the nursery rhyme. I could use some help with suggestions for cool names for a black dog.

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

One for the master,
One for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.

How about 'TIM', after the crazy wizard that blows things up in 'Monty Python's Holy Grail'? ("They call me . . . Tim")

Every dog I've ever had has been destructive in some way. I've always said that when I get a dog again, I'm naming him 'Tim'. :)

thx - cpr

Okay. The pup has a name. Hopefully the main name.

Tango (first name from litter) came to me because he has an undescended testicle. Which is not a big deal if the dog is going to be neutered anyway. The Vet just goes in, locates the testicle, and removes it while performing the regular neutering.

The situation with Tango was that he had been sold to a "show" home. He was the pick of the litter, and an outstanding conformation dog. He would go places in the show world. Well, after going to the show home and the testicles began to drop, the second one didn't. And didn't.

Shows dogs MUST have two natural testicles to qualify to be shown. No artificial ones, no surgically placed ones, etc. So Tango could not be shown and was returned to the breeder. He was now considered a pet home dog. Everything about him is perfect except for that undescended huevo.

So....his name was Tango. He has to have two huevos to be a show dog.

Are you ready for his AKC Registration name?

"It Take Two to Tango." Call name: "Dancer"

The breeder names all the litter pups with dance names, i.e., Tango, Limbo, Twist, Rhumba, etc. etc.

So I think that Dancer is in keeping with her desire for a dance name, and he keeps Tango in his registered name.

So, Dancer he shall be.

I really appreciate all of the wonderful names suggested. Very tempting. But when this It Takes Two to Tango thing came to me, Dancer just popped into my head.

p.s. I'd love to name him VeeGee, but emotionally I just can't do it. There was a lot involved with helping Dave, and we went through a lot of rough times over the past year. A lot of stuff that I will never share here. Couldn't do that to a dog, even though I know VG loved dogs more than he loved most people.

Okay, here is a picture I took of Sophie and Dancer out in the yard this morning. I wasn't trying to get the perfect picture, I was just taking candid shots of all 4 dogs on their first day together out in the yard.

You can't see Dancer's face but you can get an idea of what he looks like. I'll post a better picture later. PhilL is going to help me because taking good pictures of black dogs is difficult to do.

Anyway... Introducing Dancer, accompanied by Sophie, the 3rd Place Winner at the Lhasa Apso National Competition in Houston.

Those are nice dogs...

You don't want to see a picture of my scruffy little mutt.

[But ... if you do ... just look at HomeSeller's avatar. :)]

Thanks for the nice words about my munchkins, OP. I have two more just like these two. I love having a 4-pack of dogs. I wait until the older 2 are getting close to 10, and then I add 2 more, gradually. Then when the older ones are gone in another 5-7 years, I still have two wonderful munchkins left! Munchkins trained by the older munchkins. It works really well and I am never without a pair of munchkins to keep me company and for me to love.

Dogs are such wonderful companions. There is nothing like the unconditional love you get from them. I know that every night when I return home from work, that I will have munchkins barking at the gate and they are jumping up and down because they are so happy to see me.

How could something like that not brighten anyone's return home. It doesn't matter how bad your day at work may have been, you have critters who love you and can't wait to give you lots of love and kisses.

I just love my Lhasa Apsos. For 19 years they have been much of the great joy in my life. Boyfriends may come and boyfriends may go, but a dog's love and loyalty is forever.

Completely true. They really are unshakeably loyal.

We are never without a dog. An unbroken string for ... well ... many decades. :)

Usually, an unnaturally clever and devious dog. The latest may be the most cunning of the lot!

Mrs. OP could not survive without the little stinker. :D

Hmm nice dogs! I had a name for him but apparently i'm too late.
A friend of mine had a Husky/Lab mix that died recently.
His pooches name was Macuntz which supposedly means Black Dog in the Innu language.
Of course everyone called him Mac for short!

I guess if you had to pick a nickname, that was the better choice. :D

Our Collie's name is Trigger, but I call him Dumas, like the dead French writer but with a different pronunciation.

Glad you picked 'Dancer", Judy. He looks like a little bundle of energy and it sounds like he will "dance" for you every night when you return home.

This little guy is definitely a little bundle of energy, and it doesn't always wait until I get home. He zooms from here to there and back again, and stops to wrestle with Sophie inbetween. Their wrestle play was getting a little on the personal side this week. Luckily, Sophie went in for a spay this morning. Turns out she is in early heat - which I was not aware of even though I have been checking her closely. Whew. I was just *this* close from having to raise a litter of puppies. It was well worth the extra $16.50 for the early heat charge.

Dance and Sophie get along great. Just this past week I looked over into the living room and watch Sophie dragging Dancer across the living room floor by the hair on his head! He outweighs her by at least 3 pounds. They are perfect companions for each other, which was my goal. Only 5 months apart in age, and cousins once removed.

I just love all 4 of my munchkins!!!!! :)
