I'm not one to ask for anything, but I need some help. I have a cousin that is a firefighter/EMT in Detroit that was just diagnosed with cancer. He had surgery yesterday and everything is just ok for now. They don't know if he will be able to continue his career. He loves his job. It means the world to him to help people. I would like to do something for him. I was thinking I could make a custom rescue tool for him. I will design and cut the part. I need someone to finish it. Maybe even help with the design. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated. This will really lift his spirits. Thanks everyone.:)

IM just returning to my knifemaking after nearly a year off due to disabilty,so I can relate to your friends situation.Id be happy to help in any way I could, from doing the finishing,to offering handle/sheath materials.MY only constraint is what is the time frame. If its a week I cant do it, but a month,no worries.Im sure I wont be the only one to offer. If you choose somebody else I would still like to help, perhaps a seat belt cutter?

I'm in. I've been wanting to do a rescue ax of some sort. I drew this up real quickly a few months back, I'm sure it could be refined into a one piece with some "rescue" qualities. I don't heat treat myself, but finish work I can definitely do (handle, sharpening, etc.). Let me know.

i don't know how much i can do, i have a fairly primitive shop, but if i can i would be willing to help.

i can grind a scandi edge and a convex edge if that's helpful.

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking of doing a chisel style knife similar to what Mr. James McGowan makes. Also want to do a belt cutter. Probally made from 3-V or 154 with a bead blast finish. Maybe orange or red G-10 for scales. Leather sheath for both tools. I think Kydex might melt. These are just some thoughts. Shoot me some ideas.

Sorry to hear David. It looks like you have it covered with the offers but, if there is anything I can do please let me know.

Jeremy

Where can we see a picture of this style knife.

Ironically I was thinking about this project today when I stumbled across this blade online... And just to let you know, I just ordered some Hunter Orange G10 sheet from Tracy Mickley today for another project. Will have plenty left over!

Haven't seen the Graham brothers on here in a while (Graham Knives), but they do some excellent work with their Razel knives that may be along the line you're seeking.

does anybody know how wide that blade is? the only dimensions listed are the length and thickness.

I'm guessing since the cutting edge is 3" it's probably 1 1/2" wide.

Dave, I have niether of those steels but if send the steel, cut out profiled if you will. LOL. Know you can. I will grind the bevels and do the HT and temper. I also have a blast cabinet. If we came up with a stencil I could etch his name or something on it too. I am going on a 2 week vacation at the end of the month so whats the time factor there.

I could build a leather sheath that would hold both knife and tool if that would help.

I have the steel. I need to draw the parts and cut them. I'll post some pics of my drawings today. Thanks!

What do you think of this design? Seat belt cutter, O2 tool, Hex tool, Glass breaker and other stuff.
