Help Needed!

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking of doing a chisel style knife similar to what Mr. James McGowan makes. Also want to do a belt cutter. Probally made from 3-V or 154 with a bead blast finish. Maybe orange or red G-10 for scales. Leather sheath for both tools. I think Kydex might melt. These are just some thoughts. Shoot me some ideas.

Hi,You can copy this one if you like .

What do you think of this design? Seat belt cutter, O2 tool, Hex tool, Glass breaker and other stuff.

I like it. The jeweling on the piece tin basher poster is a nice effect. I could try that if you like. I don't know how well I could do with saw teeth. Or I can bevel, harden, temper, finish polish or bead blast. I have some mycarta, but a co-worker who worked on the stealth bomber prototype has promised me a piece of the carbon fiber stuff use in their construction. Or we can go with ironwood.

why not put the seat belt cutting part at the back that way you can put the blade in front. have the belt cutter on the bottom. more power from the palm of your hand pushing upward that way. the bottom and front end could be blade. If you put a seat belt cutter under the belt and the edge is sharp it will cut the person you are trying to help. if there is no edge then it is good. put the tool in your design that is below on the back side, on the front top where you have the seat belt cutter. and then on the back end add a small standard screwdriver sticking out of the middle of the back end, should be easy enough to add. This is all just my thoughts.

By the way I will help any way i can.

Larry

I see what you are saying. I guess my thought was to use the belt cutter you would flip the knife over and draw toward yourself. Make sense? I am just trying to make an all-in-one tool instead of 2 tools.

Dave i havent read all the replies but if you don't have someone to grind it i'd be happy to do it and anything else that I can do on it.

David I sent you an email to show what I was talking about. Hope it helps I think this is a great idea and a good thing your doing.

So after thinking about it, maybe 2 tools are better than 1. Let me know what you think. Thanks everyone for the help!

shouldnt be to hard to design a sheath for the set. I like the idea of not having the blade on the belt cutting tool.

While I like the tools, and think they look good, there are two things you could do if you liked. The first would be to put a cutout for a natural gas shutoff in the blade. It is something like a 3/4 x 1 1/2 rectangle. You would have to measure one. The other would be to put some lightening holes in the tang underneath the scales. I don't know if either would compromise the strength of the knife though, due to size, so feel free to ignore them.

Guys, I really appreciate the input. I think this is the final design. I would like someone to etch or engrave the Fireman's cross with the fire dept. and name. The scales need to be cutout for this to be visible and I would like them to be bolt on. I would like some red or orange for the scales. I will be cutting this profile from .25" CPM3V. I also would like to have some kind of sheath setup. I need to get this started because I think I'm running out of time. I will have the profile cut this weekend. I just need to know where to send it next and who would like to do what. Thanks again everyone!

David, I am back from vacation and my offer to grind and HT is still open. I need a HT recipe for CPM3V. I have never worked it before, but, I have a digital oven. I think a Klydex sheath would be the way to go for a deal like this and I don't do that. Yet. No scales, or a set that have a hole for the emblem? Jim

I can do the scales after ib2v4u is done grinding.I have red, maroon, black, green, and natural micarta or blue or black 1/8th g-10 as well as handle bolts(corby).Im unable to do the firemans cross for you but could do a kydex sheath.

Cool! That covers everything but the engraving on the cross. McAhron, I would like the scales red. The cross area is just a rounded over circle on both sides to let the cross show thru. Make sense? And Kydex would be good for the sheath.

When you get it cut out and send it let me know about how much you want beveled. You still got my address right. Jim
