I also love the idea of Micarta suggested earlier in the thread. Another idea is to make the drop-point FFG to differentiate it from the standard model, especially if clip-point is not in the picture.
Why stop at S35VN? If you're going to do a special Marksman why not go for CTS-204P, CPM 20CV, or CPM S110V? Do the blade finish as grinder satin on the bevel and stonewashed on the flats for a subtle yet elegant contrast. Then go all the way and do carbon fiber scales. Polished Micarta like on the old Spyderco Calypso would also be pretty and different. Make this Marksman compete with the Spyderco Domino, Viper Vox Kyomi, ZT 0562CF, and new G10 / 20CV Griptilians. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to provide input.
Sounds great, but those things will make it very spendy. Also, Buck doesn't typically work in those materials and might it more difficult to get this done. I do love the two-tone blade suggestion though.
I always like an od green option, but the burnt orange sounds like a winner too. That'd look pretty awesome with a blackwash blade. I'd have to go with the drop point.
I don't know what just happened to the reply I just posted, so I will try again. Please forgive if this is a double posting.
Work the coefficient of friction for opening and closing for us old guys who need all the help we can get. You cannot err on the side of too much traction unless you create hot spots that reveal themselves without gloves after an hours work. As a working knife and not a collector, DLC coating and burnt orange G 10 are my preferences. I would be willing to save up a little longer, to pay for 20v or M390. You could help inculcate the value of savings by offering layaway on the web store. If the marksman dropped an ounce through materials use without making it weaker, that's a trend setter.

:thumbup:Blade Shape: Tanto
Blade Steel: S35VN
Blade Finish: Stone Wash
Scale Material: G10
Scale Color: Burnt Orange
Scale Pattern: 831
Hardware Color: Black
I am in, good stuff!. I like the idea.:thumbup:
I went drop point, stone wash, (I like the stone washed finish on my 877) S30V, (since you already use that) OD Green, 830 handle. (a guess, I don't know the difference between the two choices.) and black hardware.
To me, a drop point is more versitle than a Tanto tip.
So, I asked Buck if they would put together a few renditions to give us all a feel of what these could look like. Obviously I couldn't ask them to do every variation, but hopefully this gets some good feedback. The photos were not linking here correctly so I came up with a solution. Rather than posting the photos here, I uploaded them to our Facebook Page. You can view all 8 concepts there!
I could go with either steel. I saw someone mention a clip point earlier, and If I could get my druthers I'd love that to be available, but between a tanto and a drop point I'll take the drop point. I also like a black/orange color scheme, or something od green. g-10 beats aluminum IMO. Blade finish could be whatever. I look forward to the results though!
I have not kept up with the newer models so I had to look up the the 831. I like it!!! Maybe a different blade shape for more practical and less tactical use. The locking mechanism looks interesting. I will be looking for an opportunity to handle one.
