Great! My vote:

Droppoint
S35VN
Black pocket worn
G10 scales
Burnt Orange
831
Hardware black

Nice would be full flatground and a 4mm thick blade

Thanks.....

I'm really glad we decided to ask everyone their ideas on this knife. I would have thought (wrongly) that the tanto was going to be very popular and not the drop point. Looks like we have some other clear leaders right now. S35VN, G10 and the 830 pattern. Honestly guys, I've held the 831 and I carry an 830. The 831 pattern has some hot spots on it. Even though it looks awesome, it's not as comfortable to handle. So I'm glad 830 is winning.

I voted for the DP in S35vn with satin finish, burnt orange 830 style with MFS hardware but when it's all said and done I doubt there is any combination that wouldn't attract folks. We all like variety, at least to a certain extent. As far as a blade grind I wouldn't mind seeing a convex.

Transparent bulletproof glass non-textured polished inside and out handle, stone washed S30V drop point blade.

Does it have to be the 830 or 831? You're going from aluminum to G10, why not a new pattern. Maybe a flat scale, or a broader, softer thumb indent for the lock and fingers?

I may just clean this up and run it on the 3D printer and see how it feels in PVC...

I voted for burnt orange scales, satin finish drop point with machine finished hardware.

S35VN

I think a Satin finished drop point would look really good. S35VN would be an upgrade from 154CM, and I've always liked the grip that G10 provides. I think black scale color and black hardware would contrast the satin blade very well. The handle pattern wouldn't matter as much but I like the 830 pattern as it's a little less busy looking.

Drop point, although tanto my be easier to sharpen......g10 od green scales, black blade, would be my ideal knife.
Oh, and s30 or s35 steel, would like to try one of the "super steels".

Good to hear this actually, I have the 830, but liked the 831 look for the handle pattern. Glad to know I'm not missing anything

My votes went for Drop point, s35vn, satin, g10, OD green, with machine finished hardware.

Hope I win, I like the look of the knife as I configured it.... :)

Thanks so much. I'm in!!!

I voted for drop point and it looks like the crowd has spoken pretty clearly to that issue. It's just that much more useful. One thing I don't see in the poll is which grind we'd like.
While Buck does a MEAN hollow grind, I'd really like to see a high saber grind on this bad boy. I think it would really speak to the strength of this knife, and with a lock like that, this knife is all about strength. I could life with FFG too.

For steel, that was a tough one. My vote was for S35VN, but honestly, Buck does a great job on S30V and I wouldn't be willing to pay much of a premium to get the S35VN over S30V. If they were only $10 apart, then sure. But S30V is already so good that it wouldn't be worth an extra.. say $25 for me to make the jump to S35VN.

Aluminum or G10... honestly, they're both great. So long as the texture of the G10 isn't so rough that it rips up your jeans pocket, then it's a wash between the two. Micarta would also be pretty cool. Any reason we're limiting it to G10 vs. Al?

Everything else has been discussed already so I'll leave it at that. Thanks again for doing this. Very generous!

I found some time to get the printer up and running and here's what I came up with. I already had neutral PVC in the machine so this is what I got. I didn't put a whole lot of effort in to refining edges and I only printed it at 50% density so you can see the layers pretty clearly, but for concept...
I know a flat scale wasn't an option, but figured it would be more forgiving on your hands and pockets. Something similar to this in G10 would be my perfect 860.

No... I'm not taking my 860 apart and putting these scales on it.
No... They're not for sale and I won't make more.
