Help With Mad Max: Fury Road knife ID

According to Bill Harsey (the guy who designed the Pacific), via Facebook, Mad Max does indeed carry a Pacific in the new movie.

Mad max is a dystopian adventure set in the distant future after an apocalyptic event. As such that knife would not be a current piece but an antique. It actually makes perfect sense that a well made knife would survive and be reclaimed. Think about it. If disease or famine wiped out 90% of the population that doesnt mean all our possessions disappear with us. I think its perfectly reasonable to think that such items will be found and in plentiful supply seeing you would have more knives than people to use them.
Nope, and he wouldn't have extra magazines on him either. The events in Road Warrior were supposed to have taken place in the late 90's IIRC, I grew up with these movies and this one was barely better than Thunder Dome

The movie was much better than I thought it would be...a little predictable at times but not too bad, not as good as the original (of course), but better than a lot of re-makes that I have seen over the years.

Thought is was a good movie. Advertised as a "re-boot" not a remake, so it's obviously not the 90's. And just why could he not have extra mags?

Not enough Max in this one

Actually a huge point with this film/all the controversy and drama behind misogynists recently labelling it propaganda. Thought Theron's acting far overshadowed Hardy's. More attention played to gender roles in Mad Max and the lack thereof in popular acting media. Of course it could be an excuse to get as many attractive women in one film as they can get to sell tickets..Jokes.

Back on track, definitely the pacific

I can't believe how near-identical that Schrade piece of shit is; they weren't even going to make an effort to disguise the rip-off. Going with the Pacific instead of a cheap imitation is a good move... The 'Winter Soldier' was using a 50$ Gerber Mark II.

I think it's cool that one of the best post-apocalyptic SF films in recent memory features one of the best fixed-blades around. CRK's would work in a slightly radioactive wasteland just as well as a Busse, but I think the Busse style and marketing would definitely win over most of the gas-hungry punks and mutants.

could be just a prop maker's handiwork
based upon the likeness of a Pacific?

They rip off A LOT of designs if you look at them, such as Böker, CRK etc..

I agree that perhaps the Pacific is too refined for the film. I'm happy about Chris Reeve having one of his knives featured, and i KNOW for a fact they are amazing, but I personally would have gone for something more brutal looking, such as this:

All in all, a good quality knife that is perhaps not so known but that looks very aggressive. In my "movie directing" mind, a CRK is more appropriate for a handsome jock SF character that is not so liked at first but ends up being very important and nice.

Those are the obvious, ridiculous choices. I would think he'd just want a high-quality knife he could rely on to do his post-apocalyptic chores... like cutting your food into easy-to-swallow portions after the radiation-sickness causes you to spit out your teeth. Something easy to sharpen. And I'm sure jimping would be vital in a nuclear wasteland. Everything must be properly jimped, for a good, jimpy grip. :D

But how would he stab through vehicle hoods and doors? I think INFI is crucial in the post apocalyptic world.

Perhaps he needs a folding knife? Maybe I'm a knife tard, but If I ever direct a film, its gonna be full of cool knives. Sooo many movies suffer from a serious lack of knives, and when they have the chance, they use common, cheaper ones.

 Absolutely! Every movie should have a bladeforums-certified prop-master! Only CRK, ZT, Busse, Shirogorov, Rockstead, Spyderco, etc.! No unsharpened edges... any actor devoted to their craft should be honored when they're artfully stabbed and slashed by an Umnumzaan. It's part of the revised 'method' that any actor should be willing to die for their part. If they get all twitchy and balk, report them to the ghost of Stanislavski... or tell their Scientologist task-masters that the Thetans have re-asserted themselves, and they're due for another 'dialectics' audit!... man Scientology is fun. I wish I was rich and famous enough to have a sci-fi-spiritual experience. :D

Nope what? I grew up with mad max as well. I think you are looking at this movie as a direct sequel. I dont see it that way. And I didnt find very much about the first three films very believable. And since 30 years have passed since the last film its going to have continuity issues besides the characters to make it relevant and relatable. I dont look at the previous movies as the standard for what can be possible in this one. Its not a faithful sequel and is more of a reboot with familiar story line.

Nope in the sense that the current pop culture, product placement craze in movies means that Max is carrying a rare by today's standards knife. How many people do you know who has a Pacific? Me either. Maybe he happened upon the house of a former BF member and he's also got a LE ZT. Sorry just let down by all the hype.

You are also assuming that anyone besides blade forums members would even recognize what knife is actually in that movie. How many people do I know with a pacific? No one. But aside from these forums I dont know the possessions of ANYONE in the world. But that doesnt mean those things dont exist just because I dont actually know who owns them at this moment. I only know one person that owns a ferrari. But I sure know there are more than 1 ferraris in the world. And they dont just disappear if the person who owned it dies. Despite your disappointment in the movie, seriously why do you think material possessions disappear just because we do? You are looking at a CRK pacific as some special thing that ceases to exist in the eyes of a natural or man made disaster. We have been pulling iron revolutionary war muskets out of the dirt for hundreds of years. I dont think its too far fetched that someone finds that knife somewhere and decides to use it. And to them that is all it is, a knife.

And with mad max being australian
One would imagine that the producers of the movie
Would try to equip the character
with at least a domestic aussie knife.
It could have been possible to create something
More far reaching than the "this is a knife" dundee effect.

This is very Mad Maxy indeed, which leads me to believe it was either CRK or Harsey that contacted the producers, not the other way around. My guess is they where going to use whatever no-name no-quality knife.
