Help with my next pistol?

Yeah it's a double stack but you wouldn't know it from carrying it. It's nice and slim.

I ccw a full size steel frame 1911 every day without issue. My officer size 1911s are very reliable, as are commanders. External safety prevents Glock leg. And, this isn't his primary carry weapon.

Again, I personally have no issue with carrying a 1911. My only point is that if you are going to carry it, you need to make sure you are familiar with the manual of arms, and practice it enough that it is muscle memory. It's especially even more important if his primary carry is something that has no external safety, as he would be switching back and forth from one manual of arms to another. That can get a bit dicey in a stressful, life or death situation.

This is why I have moved to having all of my carry pistols having the same basic manual of arms. And while I will still occasionally carry my 1911, I won't ever carry something like an M9 where the safety rotates up to fire - simple muscle memory. Even at that, it been seeing less and less CCW time.

My apologies, I meant Officer-Length primarily. I've seen plenty of unreliable officer-length 1911s. Too light of a spring on too tight of a gun is usually the main culprit. If I remember correctly, this was especially a problem with Kimber's officer length guns for a while. Seems in general, the looser the gun, the more reliable it was. Unfortunately too many try to build race-gun tightness into 3.5" 1911's - This is just my personal, admittedly second-hand, experience though.

 Is that shooting oneself ? That's just poor training or lack of practice . Glock "manual of arms" is very simple and perfectly safe if followed . Much easier to master than the 1911, for the beginner .

To get Glock-leg, you need to break one of the four fundamental rules of firearm safety
- Treat every gas as if it were loaded
- Be sure of your target and what is behind it
- Never aim at something you don't plan to shoot
- Leave your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire

Again, my original point was to keep the manual of arms consistent across anything you are gonna carry - and then train with it. A Glock is a much simpler system, but still requires proper fundamentals. A 1911 carried in Condition-1 might indeed be slightly safer (especially for those with poor trigger discipline), but requires more training to build the muscle memory to snick off the safety. Either way, constantly switching from one to the other is adding an additional, unnecessary variable.

It's my understanding, that the 92/M9 safety, although slide mounted, was designed to be deactivated with a similar thumb movement as a 1911 safety. This is exactly how I deactivate the safety on my M9, and by doing so need not change my shooting grip on the gun. It does take a day or so of practice to develop the muscle memory for this, but once you get it, it's hard to forget. Smaller hands might have issue with this technique.

To deactivate (make sure your firearm is unloaded and keep your finger off the trigger):
1. Hold the 92/M9 with your shooting grip.
2. Move your thumb up, above the safety lever
3. Slide your thumb down, along the slide, using a similar movement as if you were to deactivate a 1911's thumb safety

The safety should pop up, even though you are moving your thumb forward and down (the natural arc of your thumb). It is awkward the first 9 or 10 times you try it. Practice about 50 times the first day and another 50 times the next day, and it should become natural after that. You'll wonder why you didn't always do it that way.

IIRC this worked with the Storm, too. This does not, however, work with the older S&W slide mounted safeties (or at least it doesn't work with my 1006).

Let me introduce you to my Steyr M9-A1. It is my favorite polymer, striker fired pistol. And I've shot many.

It's a very unique gun. They make a compact (C9) which I may buy. Not sure. Check it out.

Have you sold your 75?

I can't find the freaking case for the CZ? Lol. If I don't find it by the weekend I'm just going to sell as is. I have 4 magazines for her, they aren't cheap either.

I got busy yesterday with estimates so I never made it to the range. I was Going to ask about steyr? Looks like a great shooter.

I love it. Moments ago I found out that Steyr is discontinuing the A1 in favor of the the new, heavily modular A2. You probably could get a deal on the A1. The A2 looks cool, but the initial offering, the L9-A2, has a 4.5" barrel, which too big for CC IMO. Even with my 6' 3.5" 190lb frame.

In a little while, I'll take more pics of mine.

This gun was safety checked and there is no ammunition in this room. All magazines are empty.

This was the best gun I had that I could shoot such great groups. It really made me look good. Lol. Except for the first double action shot, sometimes I'd get it. It helped with my technique, keep a straight pull back and don't flinch.

Thick, but a great shooter. Still in the glock case for now....

This is a great range bag. It's a explorer, has lots of compartments with a gun bag on the side and
Spots to put magazines. I have a divider in the big compartment with gun cleaning stuff, and mat.

Those Steyrs are nice shooters! I had one, then got a caracal which was similar and truly awesome . . . until it was recalled. Had a CZ as well, great gun but sold it due to weight.

Yeah, I've shot a lot of poly pistols. Overall, my favorite has been the HK USP/P2000/P30 for hammer fired, and the Steyr for striker. I did really like the Walther P99 A/S though.

Next gun, if and when I'm able to get a job, will be a Dan Wesson 715 pistol pack. I want something I can both use for competitive shooting and carry/home defense. But I'm saving.

My S&W model 10 is my favorite gun to shoot. So smooth, and really accurate with the 5" barrel.

My SP-01 has the safety, carry condition 1 makes that first pull a non-issue.

I'm really leaning toward the sig p365 now. I forgot, when it gets hot out, I always walk my dog without a shirt on. Good to get some sun. I actually had the G26 in my pocket with a thick slip. But a single stack, or the sig would be perfect for some pocket carry.

In the winter I could go to IWB i f I didn't want to carry the glock.

I could open carry, but I don't want to advertise. I had my BRK gunny hunter on my hip and was walking around the town walking my dog. Wouldn't ya know, a guy asked me if that was legal? I said yes sir it is, if I conceal it, no. My shirt was covering half of it, he could see the lower shealth against hip.

He was a younger guy about twenty or so. I baulked on asking about his "criminal history". Lol

I'm basically out in farm land, with some communities around them.

Can't comment on the 365, but Check out the sig p229 if you'd like a single stack metal frame instead of plastic, and the S&W M&P shield if you like single stack striker fired. Check out the Springfield EMP if single action.

P229’s are double stack, perhaps you meant a P225(with a 8 round capacity)?

I went to the range today, asked them if they had any of the new sig saurer p395 for sale.

No, but they have three coming in today at 2 o'clock eastern time. They said these are the newest p365. One is the p365 with a safety. They are in high demand according to the gentleman working at the range. I gave them my phone number to call me when they come in. I'm not interested in the one with the safety. I'll probably tell them to put one aside and I'll go check it out tomorrow. It's about 50 minutes from my house, I'll check to make sure these have all the updated parts.

I'll probably get a "tulster" holster for IWB and another holster for pocket carry. They also said they have some of the 12 round magazines coming in also, I'll grab one of those if they are available.

I like to give the firearm a good cleaning before I use it. Very excited, thanks for all the help.

My landlord wants to stop by and make sure her house is O.K. On Monday. So I'm doing a thorough house cleaning, hopefully I find the damn CZ case. If I can't, I'm not sure if it's worth selling, if they only offer a couple hundred, I might just keep it. we will see.

Krav Krav
I’m late to the party, but if you’re dumping your CZ because of it’s double action pull, replacing the OE mainspring with something lighter is a simple job and makes a big difference.

Reduced power mainsprings are available from Cajun Gunworks and the CZ pro shop. Stepping down to a 15# spring without any other modifications makes a noticeable difference and shouldn’t affect reliability one bit.

I’m running 11.5# currently, but that’s generally regarded as too light without doing other mods (mine is a P01).

Just food for thought.

FWIW the P365 intrigues me as well.

Best of luck!

Received a call from the range/store, they said Krav, we have a brand new sig saurer P-365 here for you. Yes, I said, does it have the safety? He said Yes..... lol

They said Sig limits their orders too about -3-P-365s per order?

So they could receive the other two P365s via "FedEx"'anytime now.

Hope you all have a great weekend.
