Henckels Knives

Hi Mike,
Yes, I see that some of these knives have changed hands over the years. The second "Our Best" knife you've posted I may have brought to the Oregon show about twenty something years ago. I always kicked myself for letting that one go. ;) or one very similar. Did we trade for a switch? I was into Schrades at the time. I don't recall. Jerry Skelton bought my most of collection (god rest his soul) one year there. That's when I turned my focus to Henckels. The one next to the folding guard with the threaded bolsters looks early. What do you think? Pre 1890?

Both, on the life style question. I found an interesting article about the trade war between Britain and Germany in the 1800's. It seems that by the end of that century Germany had hit their stride with quality, but before that for decades it was Britain all the way. There was definitely major competition between Sheffield and Solingen.

I'm pretty sure I bought a Henckels or two from you off of eBay a long time ago. I do think the second lockback is older, but not sure how old. Nice knife you posted. I have one like it but not as old or in that good of condition. Those sawblades are the sharpest I've come across.

Freelivin’ and Mike - both of you have displayed stunning additions.
Mike I too find that on the German Knives especially the Saws are horrendously Sharp!

Freelivin’ That’s a very nice Sportsman Knife Sir.

Mike those Pearls are just that - absolute Pearls. Gorgeous, incredible Knives.

While Solingen was bombed numerous times, the main attackSolingen's natives call it “Der Angriff” – happened on the weekend of November 4 and 5, 1944. The city burned for a week and the old downtown was completely destroyed during the bombing.
I have these letters from the Iwersen estate that were written on those dates in November 1944 or just before in Solingen. Iwersen I believe ran the New York sales to Graef & Schmidt prior to the war. Six months later the Germans would surrender, May,7 1945. Henckels has an interesting history.

Four letters wishing him the best on his 25th anniversary of working for Henckels. Two from Solingen locations and one each from the branches in Frankfurt and Wien (Vienna).

Lambertiana, thank you so much for the translation. I do find it interesting that the letter written on the 5th of November was, by all historical accounts, written during major bombing campaign on Solingen.

Dale_P, very nice Boker-made Trapper model.

Campbellclanman, Wow, you've been busy my friend!!! :)
Ivory handled Henckels folders are very uncommon, and you have two nice examples.
Very neat to see those two beautiful champagne knives side by side to see the subtle differences.
The metal handled folder and the pearl multi-blade models are both wonderful.

Mike R., Fantastic examples of some of the absolute best and rarest pre WWII Henckels folders.
Thanks for showing these top notch folders!!!

freelivin, Great horseman's model which are hard to find, especially in such nice condition as yours.
I love all your ephemera which adds so much flavor and interest to the hobby.
And your paperwork is also very interesting.

freelivin posted two very cool Henckels branded knife sharpeners.
Here is another variation and my favorite one in the form of the Henckels "Twins" logo.
