Here we go again

My Queen HJ also did the same. I also had a Case TB collab do the same, left it over night - picked it up in the morning- and there it was.
Case did fix it - but left a note in with the Knife for me to Oil the Joints 😔
If they had looked they would have seen plenty.

I have had three springs to date do this - I can’t remember my latest one - it was a knife I purchased- was inspecting the knife and others as I had just finished opening the box - sat the Knife down and in about 5 minutes time a real sharp ā€œPINGā€ ( like a air rifle pellet hitting something)
I looked all around wondering just what the hang happened!!
Then found the knife 😩

I wish I hadn't clicked onto this topic... Now I'm wondering if it's more of the "when" than the "if" some of my knives will simply go to that PING all on their own! Oy vey! 😱

As my collection grows more and more into the traditional fixed blade side of things, there will be less of such worries going forward with my newest acquisitions šŸ˜†

I was looking through my photos looking for something else and came across these, this was my second to last Spring that decided to go all by itself - a Queen, I'm thinking that there was a bad batch of metal that queen had to make bulk springs from at one stage- this is the only explanation I can think of.....
I feel for them because this is something you wont know about until its too late......

This one hurt the most because it was a gift from a Great friend, i use this Knife still as the Punch still works great!

Oooohhh the humanity!!!
How is this not on FEMA’s radar?
I can’t watch…

Unfortunately, CASE is not immune either šŸ˜’ Had this Medium Stockman only since the beginning of the year and was enjoying using it. The other day Pen and Sheepfoot got the floppies due to a busted backspring. Happily, CASE is unlike Queen still in harness and they got back to me very promptly . So it left Europe last Friday and it's en route to CASE Repairs (only I hope they just replace the knife, don't trust the other spring now:D) .

I check checked my Queen knives- so far so good (knock on some wood!)
That is some horrible luck!

All these broken springs are a bummer. What a shame.

I'm afraid to check my Queens that are in boxes. As long as I don't look at them, they are both broke and not broke. Think Schrodinger's spring :D

Looks like Queen are becoming an endangered species :(

Is it self-harm? ;) But it really is an appalling thing for knife connoisseurs.

Same thing happened to one of my Queens. It was sitting in a drawer, and when I check it out 6 months later, a spring was broken.

I wonder if this is a common issue with Queen knives of a limited period of time, or if it was an issue that spanned over many years of their manufacturing?

One spring broke on a Queen D2 Honey Bone #49 Stockman

but thankfully, Queen was in operation and fixed it

I do not know how to disassemble a folder and reassemble with a new spring, without destroying the knife. But, maybe you do. Take a look at the Queen knives parts this guy is offering, lots of blades and springs, and maybe you can get your knife back in order

Thank you for sharing a close up photo of the broken spring.

I was wondering why and how this would happen, for knives that's been sitting and not being used, years after the production, all of a sudden.

From the picture, there appears to be 'rust' spots in the break? That makes me believe some oxidation occurred throughout its life with the material having tainted during fabrication and it's been sitting until the rust propagated within the material?

Ah...

Thank you for that. I would still love for them to come back and say 'providing all Queen warranty work!" 😁 Can only dream...

Apparently this one was sent back to Queen to repair a broken spring, just before they closed their doors.
My... God...
The only thing worse than springs breaking on perfectly good knives is seeing evidence of folks knowingly doing slip-shod work.
