Fellas,

I'm starting this thread to update progress on the wear and tear that you might find by using your small polished blade sebenza with wood inlays as your daily EDC. Inspired by Mostmenareruthless' post following the daily wear and tear on his damascus small sebby: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1158645-My-name-is-Damascus-and-I-am-a-User?highlight=damascus+user

The subject is my small 21 box elder that I bought several months back, and has not seen any serious pocket time. I bought it as my "night out with my wife" knife, but I rarely need it in those situations, so it has kinda languished in my drawer. I'm not going to cut this knife any slack because I want to answer several questions for myself that might also benefit my pals on the forum:

1: What does a polished blade look like once you give it some scratches?
2: What happens to the wood inlays in your pocket?
3: What happens to the polished TI slabs over time?
4: As a large CRK knife guy, will I fall in love with the 'small' size as so many have?

I am going to set the calfskin pouch aside and let this knife have a full life. As you might have noticed I have reverse OCD. I am not happy with any of my knives unless they are scratched-up users! :D Secretly I cannot bear to daily carry my large Tamboti Wood sebenza 21 as it is so gorgeous, so I am sending my small box elder in as point-man to see what becomes of it behind enemy lines.

Here she is on the day I received her (the test begins tomorrow):

Any other forum members who have pocket washed wood Sebenzas, feel free to post pics

Subcribed. Definitely interested in how it holds up.

Beautiful picture btw.

I carried a few Mammoth Sebbies and a Mnandi for a while. One had a damscus blade too. None of them fell apart or broke. No matter what, they always looked great. The mammoth held up perfectly. 100% better than any other mammoth knives I have owned.

I am interested in the results..Only because this has kept me from buying any inlays with exception to the micarta.
Probably won't come as a surprise that a carried knife looks like a user after a short amount of time :P

This 2010 camphor wood annual is my most carried inlay Sebenza. It has lots of fine scratches on the blade and a couple on the handle. I just spent 10 minutes trying to take a picture that would show the marks, but they won't show up. I think it just adds character to the knife!

Edit to add: I pouch carry at work but clip carry all other times

That's a familiar looking knife. Glad to see it's getting put to good use :)

Awesome, some absolutely gorgeous knives just begging to be used :D

The inlays have admittedly grown on me,at least in terms of purchase potential. Some pictures of well traveled pieces with various inlays have certainly opened the eyes. Never enough pictures though!

I also have been neglecting the leather pouch for a while. These seven as age very well despite the small scratches. I can tell within 5-10 years it will look nearly the same.

Yes it will pick up some lightl scratches, but they won't look bad and just add to the knife. Personally I think you are going to like it even more once you get rid of that too new look.

I agree! At first I cringed at the scratches, especially when I slipped on a sharpening stone! It's totally awesome now, character.

Interesting thread idea, and beautiful specimen to boot! I carried this Cocobolo Classic for 2 years (light use - no batoning - LOL!), and the only significant wear was found on the blade's edge and on the clip and lock-bar (however, there was a very minor amount of discoloration on the titanium scales over the pivot where my thumb normally rested - hard to see in photos):

I am going to start EDC'ing my large wood inlay 21 with Damascus. It's been killing me to have it sit in the safe and I be been dying to see how the Damascus/wood hold up ypto carry and use WITHOUT the pouch. This thread has just given me that little nudge.

Not much worth reporting on yet (other than I totally dig this little knife! She's getting into my soul!). Some bushcrafting this afternoon....no compromises in this test. Surprisingly capable little blade. Definitely would be a great lightweight addition to any backpackers kit.

Another great thread Cody! This is such a great place to get real world information on CRK's. I look forward to seeing the results. Thanks for doing this it may push me to get a inlay someday. Right now just all plane janes.

Thanks Birdhunter. I am as curious as you as to how this is gonna go. I figured I either had to sell this knife, or start using it. So far, I'm glad I chose the latter. Will keep you updated.
