Here's To The Knives Lost - WINNERS ANNOUNCED in POST #1

For twenty plus years my EDC knives were a Schrade Old Timer 108OT (small Stockman) and the same knife in the Uncle Henry variation. I bought both of them when I began selling building materials and I bought them from two of my new customers (lumberyard hardware stores), at the PX I added a black, US Army SAK Classic to my rotation. On and off I would lose those knives in my house - I had young children back then and would offer a dollar each for my knives. The kids would look all day to earn that dollar - that worked until I slowly lost them, one by one, outside the house. It was fun for them and I didn't have to tear the house apart looking - they did it! OH

Now that is clever.
If I gave my daughter a dollar she would probably throw it in the trash...where she probably threw the 33. She's cute though trying to help clean up.

Now, did your kids ever wise up and "lose" your knives on purpose to earn a dollar?:)

I lost my Walnut, Sheepsfoot, TC Barlow about a week after getting it. I left it by my in-laws pool in a gated community. I put it down and never picked it up. A groundskeeper found it and gave it back when my father-in-law inquired about it. He said he had googled the knife since he knew nothing about it, and after seeing it wasn't cheap, he decided to hold on to it in case someone came looking for it. My in-law knew I'd try to give the guy a reward for it, so he offered him money, this guy said "no way...I'd expect someone to do the same for me." So I was happy as a clam. Fast forward a few months...my brother helped me do a tune-up on my truck, which included swapping 16 spark plugs...so I gave him this 2-bladed Sheepsfoot Barlow. He really likes it, but if you were to see this knife...he completely desecrated this knife. Oh well, I feel like I lost this one twice, I guess. My wife, 6 year old, and 3 year old aren't very helpful at helping me find my lost things...so, I hope you have better luck.

I had (have) a knife that I lose pretty frequently. It's a little Winchester folder that I got for Christmas when I was probably about 8 or 10 years old. My dad got a matching one, which of course made it that much cooler. I carried it all the time for a while until it got into a cycle of losing it for a few months, then finding it again, only to lose it later. It's currently lost, but it's about time for it to show up again :) For a Winchester knife that must've been 10 bucks at Wal-Mart, it's actually a pretty great knife...

I once lost a knife — an Elinox Lumberjack — for about 25 years. I found it again several weeks ago when I pulled out a desk drawer fully enough to see to the very back. There it was, good as the day I put it there.

In the SAK universe, the Lumberjack is pretty stripped down: http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Lumberjack

The blade, cap lifter, and saw needed a good wipedown with Goo-Gone to get off some hardened pine pitch (I'm guessing) and other crud from the last backpacking trip, then a scrub with dish soap and water, followed by thorough drying. Last came dabs of Quick Release oil in the appropriate places.

When it went astray, it was one of just two SAKs I had (the other a Classic). Once again in hand, it rejoins a tribe that now numbers some 10 SAKs. Good to have it back.

Suggestion for the OP: keep looking as others have recommended. But also give some thought to a replacement for it that won't be redundant if or when the lost item drifts back into view.

A big thank you to Rockgolfer and Rockon75!!!

I received a pm from Rockgolfer asking for my address. I have asked for others info and it always drives me crazy when they turn me done the first few times. :D So, I told Rockgolfer the first time around my info. I had no idea what was coming my way, but the thought stuck with me that a complete stranger considered sending me something. It humbled me. After pming a few times I would have to say this guy is certainly one of the good ones on here...even without the gift that was heading my way. I asked for is info to properly thank him and he just said, "pay it forward."

It arrived yesterday, and to my surprise, a second box was in the mail as well. No name. Only the return address listed. I recognized the address though. :D
Rockon75, whom I traded with for the original 33, had shipped me a knife to ease in the loss.

This is why I keep coming back to this forum. Not the gift, or even the knowledge I learn on cutlery, but because of who you all are. I have meet some amazing people on here.

To pay it forward, and to show my gratitude, I will be selecting two post from the start of this thread to Monday the 16 to send a couple mystery knives.
I will use a random generator and ship anywhere in the world.:) To enter all you have to post is "Rockgolfer and Rockon Rock" and all I ask is that you look for ways to pay it forward.

Thank you again

I've lost a few knives over the years, but the one I'll remember most was the Schrade Old Timer I left on a rock when fishing below the San Gabriel Reservoir back in 1978-79. Got home, couldn't find it, remembered, drove back 70+ miles, looked at more rocks than most geologists see in a lifetime. Never did find it. Always hoped someone deserving found it. Ruined a pretty good fishing trip too.

Funny thing is I bought it to replace a white handled "fishing" pattern that the spring had gone on. No idea whatever happened to that knife.

They look like some real treasures, the knives and who sent them. You have some thought full friends.

What an awesome gesture!
I lost a 2006 redbone scout, schatt&morgan...
I purchased it on sale for my new item to carry in my
2008 wedding. A couple years ago we were at the ballpark,
and I used it to cut some fruit for my nieces and nephews.
Laid it down to clean my hands and their hands...
Didn't realize until a few hours after leaving the park that
I didn't have it. I carried it every day in my left front pocket
since our wedding day. I considered getting another like it,
but it wouldn't be the same. Only knife I have ever lost permanently.

I lost one of my first Buck, a 55 and one of my favourite EDCs a few times, it was in a couch for about 6 months when I was certain it fell out of my pocket when I was fishing.

The second time was a bit more permanent, haven't seen it in 3 years so it must be gone for good haha.

Anyways, Rockgolfer and Rockon Rock, and thanks for the opportunity.

Great gesture and great guys! I'm not in (the Frau might kill me, not believing they were truly gifted), but I do love to see the Karma flow around here!
