First of all, I want to apologize for the title of this thread, but It just worked for me.

If I need to change it, I am sure the Mods will let me know.

Interested in who EDC's high end custom knives. No limits, the higher the better, but you need to actually use it, not just carry it...

Please include a description, pics are great, and most importantly: WHY?

*Please don't turn this thread into anything else besides the topic. No opinions on why someone would carry a certain knife, or that a PM2 can do the same job for X amount less.....

Lets keep this fun, that's my only intention!

Let me start this one off properly!

Combined value of my EDC is approximately $15k.

Knife is a Darrel Ralph one off that set me back $2200.

CM, nice EDC. OP, if starting such a thread wouldn't showing your stuff be appropriate in the opening post?

PS. I only have one custom and it is NOT high end, compared to some, price wise. I have carried and used it but not like I would use a tenacious. Here is a pic.

It's a cool knife, and I like how you strategically cover the wallet with coins. ;)

And how did you get Morgan Freeman's AA sign up sheet?! ;)

I agree, it was rude for me not to post first!

Andy Fitz Angel Wing Flipper (Lightened)

OAL: 7 inches
Blade: 3 inches
CPM154

Tried so many knives from production up, never found anything this well rounded.

Balance is perfect, best feel in hand I have ever held, all around ergo's are amazing, zero hot spots.
Cuts everything, wood, cardboard, plastic, anything as well as you could want.

Flips like butter without bearings. That takes a little skill to make, and besides being a great maker, Andy is a really good guy, who answers all questions fast.

Images? Love to add some, but BF is not liking my iPad....

Anyone want to explain how to do it, I would appreciate it...

Thanks for really starting this off well!

So much amazing work on that knife....

A funny old dude here in Louisville AA calls those court ordered papers get well cards.

I'm not court ordered but my attorney says these will help when it's time to get my felony reduced and have my records cleaned. We call em that as well as my favorite, tickets to the dance.

That's nice. What is that?

Jeremy Horton TAC4. From the first batch he made, it is one of my sharpest knives and would be a shame not to use it. Balance is very forward-biased, but the contoured Ti offers a great grip. It's on pocket clip #2 and overall has some considerable wear from use, but it's still one of my favorites.

Customized Emerson CQC-10. This didn't start out high-end, but I feel the framelock conversion elevates it enough. It's got the best ergos of any of the Emersons I've handled and owned, and the thumbdisc-less blade makes it a great slicer/cutter.

Another framelock conversion that I feel bumps it up to the high-end bunch. Although I don't do anything with this that involves any rough use, it's just too damn sexy not to carry and use for light work.

Morgan Freeman? Haha, that's good!

You need to host your pics to a site like photobucket. Then attach the picture link to your post.

This is the probably one of the most expensive knife I own. I carry and use all my knives. It's an Emerson Mini CQC-15 customized by Nathawut Petchkong. This guy does incredible work. It's one of the best Ti framelocks I own. It's new in the picture.

I recently started using M390. The premium on the Benchmade model I EDC in M390 is almost twice that of the exact 154CM model. The real world difference is that I can put a 15 degree edge on the M390 blade, and have it hold that edge for what I would guess to give me at least four times the intervals between sharpening than that of the exact 154CM model on not nearly a thin an angle. I actually purchased one Benchmade because I like the handle, and bought another model with M390 blade, and swapped the blade and handles to get a hybrid of what I want. So it was unusually expensive, but I liked the outcome a lot.

The physical effort involved in cutting with my M390 blade is significantly less than the 154CM blade. This is partly because the angle itself is lower, and partly because of how M390 holds the razor hone for an extended period.

The other advantage I am finding M390 to have is that it has corrosion resistance that is among the best or the best I have ever seen (short of H1 and other nitrogen steels, of course). For a folder, I really like that property as I eat a lot of citrus and constantly use the knife to cut/eat food. So I want a blade with good stainless properties.

One has to actually explain the "why" factor to some degree in order to make sense of one's decision to spend more money on a more premium product. The 'why' for me is the ability to hold an edge significantly longer, the ability to have a more stable edge at a very low angle, and spectacular corrosion resistance. For my usage, I am find that is justifying the costs and more lengthy process of sharpening.

I have a lot of 'expensive' knives I will never use.....

I was interested most in the 'why' because of my long journey from production to full custom and the significant differences I found. More than I was expecting, and worth every dollar.

In terms of blade steel, I am not a big fan of 'Super Steel'....

I am really enjoying the CPM154 on Andy's knife, great combination between edge retention and ease to sharpen.

I am getting more into the carbon steels, 52100, 1095, Etc.

The edge you can put on that steel in no time at all is unreal.

No it won't hold it for a month, but I like to sharpen!

This thread could quickly become awesome. Actually, due to CM it already has. I dig every knife I have seen on this thread, Darrel Ralph and Emerson framelock conversions, oh my!
