I must admit that the snake print didn't hold a candle to how it looks now. I don't even miss it....
 
In addition to Tinbasher, there was another BF member from some years ago who did beautiful mirror finishes. Search for posts by mercruiser.

Has anyone been able to replicate the satin finish for their knives? I'm about to get some different grit sandpaper and might try it on some older blades that are very scuffed from batoning.

I polish the blades smooth, then use steel wool perpendicular to the spine, it gives a uniform scratch like satin but I've never just tried the steel wool. I've always done it on a mirrored blade. There are different steel wools that scratch more or less

Looks like you're on your way to being able to shave, and check the shave with only your blade dude. That's a good start.
