Hi Y’all.

Recently Yangdu Martino of HI sent me this khukuri for reviewing. I have a lot of khukuris and I kind of thought that rather than keeping it after I reviewed it I might do sort of a passaround raffle, so maybe some people who had never tried a khukuri, or this model might get a shot to try one.

Here are the details. To “pay” for your spot in the raffle you must agree to take the khukuri out and do some chopping or other field work with it and then post your impressions WITH PICTURES here.

Cutting, peeling machete type stuff is all good. No chopping bricks and other extreme stuff cause somebody is going to win it.

Member of bladeforums for at least 1 year.

At least 3 posts on either the Himalayan Imports forum or the BF Wilderness and Survival forum in the last 2 weeks.

Must post pics and a review in this thread.

Must live in the US because it will cost each person approx 10 bucks to ship it to the next person and that way nobody has to wait a long time to get it.

Want to limit it to six people so it doesn't drag on too long. To pick the winner I will put the numbers 1 thru six in a coffee can, shake it and pull out the winners number.

I’ll post my review in the next post in this thread. Hope some people are interested. Speak up and the first six that meet/agree to the criteria are IN

Here’s my review of the khukuri. Like I said I have a lot of khuks so I’m not participating in the raffle part, only the reviewing part.

First a pic in the hand.

I think it’s interesting that it’s got this sort of strange stylized spine thing going on

Speaking of the spine here’s the picture of the spine showing the thickness and that it is a full tang model.

Unlike the 15” Chitlangi which I reviewed earlier on this forum that came with this one, this AK Boomerang was really sharp all along it’s blade length.

Recently this Sugar maple fell into my hayfield so I thought it might be “worthy” of trying out the khuk on since I needed to get it out of the field anyway.

First I limbed nearly the whole thing the AK worked great on the limbs. I could cut 1” ones in one swipe.

Once I had them all cut off and stacked it was time to cut the main stem. This maple was tight grained and hard as hell. It took me some time. Here is about 2/3 thru on my side of the cutting:

One of the great things about the curve of the khuk is that even cutting high up like this at about tit level it will still cut over on the other side. On lower trees you can actually cut over and under on the side opposite where you are standing.

Done! This was the hardest part. I have cut stuff this size before but other than some elm this maple was one of the tougher things to cut the main stem of. Once I had it on the ground I cut it in half again. Easier cutting it at that angle instead of reaching up.

In conclusion it’s a nice khukuri. Well tempered. I prefer less curved and non full tang khukuris, I could feel it in my shoulder and wrist after chopping the thick part because the full tang design transmits more shock, but I was still able to work with it. Cut great. Stayed sharp.

So is anyone interested in participating???

I would like in on this and will definitely post pics and a review. I haven't posted in the HI forum but have quite a few here.

Thank you,

Charlie

Elvis Costello is on bladeforums!!! Just kidding, but you do bare a striking resemblance.

I would love to get in on this pass around. I've never used this style of knife before, it would be an interesting experience.

Siguy- where in CT are you? Maybe we could go in order and work out some sort of local pass-off or something, and save on shipping.

I'm opting out of this one, but just wanted to say I look forward to the results. I've only ever used a 16.5" CAK.

Alright buddy, if your ready to get started email me and I'll send you my info. That is if you have everything worked out?

Guys, I'll close this thread, and email Hollowdweller for a decision, then I'll unlock the thread so he can announce who's in. So far we have enough eligible candidates. Good luck, Gentlemen!

Mp510 almost made it in, but not enough posts in the last 2 weeks.

Sorry, but we have to stick strictly to the rules on this stuff so there are no problems. However, I’m sure there will be more passaround/raffles to come!

Ace of Blades please email Hollowdweller your address at upahollow60@hotmail.com. Also, any others please do same if you haven't.
