They are Australian Shepherds (one is a red merle, one is a blue merle). So their element is really out herding sheep, goats or we as have discovered anything in a group!
But even though they are not water dogs, their favorite activity is chasing sticks in the creek near our home.
However, there is a ranch in Riverside where you can "rent" a herd and let your Aussie's DNA take over, here are two pics from one of those days.
(thumbnails, click on them for larger)

Very familiar with the breed not why I didn't pick up on it in the photo.
Always admired the fine animal. I'm not allowed to own one.
Vet said the intelligence imbalance was too great.
I said I could be patient.
He said, "I wasn't talking about you".

They are great dogs - definitely need lots of exercise and challenges or they will make your life miserable.
But the joy they bring is beyond the telling (as any pet owner knows).
Here is a pic of a fellow that my wife rescued a few months ago (vet estimates 12 years old, said he had never seen a more abused cat - we thought he was a kitty since he was so small) - he's noisy, cantankerous, took forever to litter train but we all love his feistiness and the vet said he was days from death when he showed up on our front yard. Turns out he was an escapee from a neighbor down the road who hoards cats and apparently mistreats many. Authorities have been called there repeatedly to no avail. We love our jail breaker and he will spend what time he has left with us.

God Bless you and your Wife - Special place will be prepared.... Give "kitty" a gentle hug:)

Some of the horses...and Christine/Shelby.

New to this forum as I've got my first Hinderer on the way after a trade this weekend. Love seeing the pics of so many great pets of members. We lost a beloved pet about 2 years ago and just recently decided to adopt a new one. Ellie is our 12 week old German Shepard. She has brought a lot of laughs and fun with her and we think she will be a great addition to the family. Here is a pic of her favorite pastime....riding in the pickup.

There is nothing better to mend your heart from a loss than another pet. It won't replace the one you lost (and that is good) but it make the hurt a little less. A fine looking pup you have there my friend. And welcome to the Hinderer family.
