Hinderer XM-18 Lockup

Rick Hinderer IS the man!:thumbup:

Thanks for sharing this email on what happened to your XM-18 (), and what it took to be considered repaired (:)). Too bad we'll probably never know how it got this way in the first place, but now it is back & ready for duty! Use it well, and it should never fail again. :D

That did not take long at all. It also shows some excellent customer service. It was very good on your part to update us with the final result, as many people post problems with knives and never come back to say that the manufacturer resolved the issue. Congrats on your knife. If these were not so hard to find at a reasonable price, I would have one.

Glad to hear Rick took care of it for ya. I had a similar experience with Spartan on a knife I picked up second hand that had blade play. The good companies know that even if you are not the original owner customer service experiences like yours gain them a lot of business.

It would be interesting to know how many knives forum members have problems with were bought new or second hand. I personally suspect a lot of problem knives get bought and resold and are handed around to unsuspecting new owners repeatedly. I've personally had to send 2-3 back to the manufacturer over the last few months with issues that should have been obvious under any thorough inspection. I've also seen a couple where the lock bars had very weak tension, most likely bent by a previous owner for easier flipping.

Either I'm really really unlucky or some companies with really good reputations actually have horrible QC. In all honestly I'm starting to come to the conclusion that it's not worth the risk/savings to buy on the forums anymore.

My Xm was purchased second hand. I just cleaned and re-oiled the knife. Unfortunately the lock is still failing. I suspect it was past damage but who knows until Rick looks at it :( No more second hand expensive folders for me!
