Holy Grail Everyday Carry?

Lately I have been carrying a buck 505 lancer. It does everything I need for edc. I have carried everything from a mini grip, Keyshawn leek, Buck alpha, bm kulgera. The small knife is tough US made and disappears in your pocket. Just my 2 cents.

Benchmade Crooked River...

...maybe almost tied up with my new Spyderco Military S110V

But neither is quite perfect. The search, as always, continues

That is a very tough question.

It would be a locking folder, with a traditional look. Tortoise (backed by gold leaf) or mop backed by platinum foil, or gold lip backed by gold leaf.

A locking Whittler pattern perhaps. Or a sportsman pattern.

I have a few pics saved, but it's a pain in the butt to search from my phone.

Mine would be either a Spyderco Manix DLC with g10 scales or a Spyderco Kahr Arms Delica 4. Thanks for such an interesting thread.

Did you ever see Indiana Jones and the scene about choosing the grail?

Somewhat seriously, I think Bob Loveless pretty much nailed it with this quote...

For me (and me alone and YMMV), when a knife becomes so dear to me to that I can no longer treat it with "a certain familiar contempt", I no longer feel in harmony with the knife. It has begun to own me, not the other way around. I learned this skiing with some hard chargers, who had a saying, "All skis are rock skis". It's very freeing to treat tools with contempt and I don't ever want to be burdened with a knife I fear loosing or breaking.

Ah, the wooden Chalice.

I agree about Bob's comment.

Factory, I would say Idun,
Custom, Fiddleback Forge Nessmuk,

But right at this very moment there is an Opinel #7 in my pocket.

Already carry it everday....

1) Indiana Jones the Last Crusade

B) I agree. Which is why I won't own a knife I'm not willing to use. Not necessarily treating it with contempt, as that makes me think of abuse. But I can use an enjoy an expensive knife while also admiring the "art" aspect--design, uniqueness, beauty.

Personally, I love seeing well used knives. Using a knife is a show of love. Preserving one, storing it, well that's a show of greed IMO, waiting for the right time to sell it or just to look at and admire, and say to yourself "What a beautiful and valuable piece I've acquired, wait til I show people this."

I feel the same way about guns. The only exceptions in my book are when its something handed down to you that is an antique. Not that I have any knives like that.

I inherited quite a few guns when my grandfather died. The only ones I don't shoot need parts and are super old and/or abstract that you cant find the parts for them, or are too decrepit to use safely. My dad still uses his grandfathers fillet knife when cleaning fish. I hope to get that one day. My most well loved knife is a Wenger Nomad SAK my great uncle gave me back in 1986 for my 7th birthday. Someday, when my health is better, I hope to see all my knives that well loved.

Kinda odd seeing so many pedestrian knives in a thread meant for discussion of "holy grail" type knives. Odd.

For an everyday carry folder there are a number of custom traditional knives I would love to have, certainly a Bose custom. On the more modern side maybe a Rockstead Higo.

As for me, probably a custom from Gayle Bradley, Sinkevich, or Demko.

I have that first version, there IS something magical about that knife. Utilitarian but sensuous. Got 12 Spydies that's #2.

I've seen some customs from Gayle Bradley that were definitely grail-worthy and would be a good choice if I had to choose something other than ordinary production.

Amongst the ordinary production it is hard the Spyderco PM2 S110V for my normal use. I could make suggestions for minor improvements but I'm pretty happy with it as it is. Amongst more expensive production knives I like the Benchmade 908 Stryker in M4 and CF. I think the PM2 would actually work better for my uses but is not quite as nice.

Something like this. The gold lip pearl. With gold pins. Or....
