Holy Grail Everyday Carry?

If I could keep my Leatherman Wave, the knife I'd choose would be one of my GEC #72's.

I carry either hinderer or a CRK every day so I guess a grail for me would be a custom Emerson like that tactical kwaiken that was at the gathering.

I already have EDC grail knives. Walter Brend, Jim Siska, Darrel Ralph, ... Demko? Carried and abused a 1-off Demko "Navajah" for over a year and sold it for more than I paid!

Get your grail and carry it.

Kinda odd seeing so many pedestrian knives in a thread meant for discussion of "holy grail" type knives. Odd.

People are different. Different in the shoes they like, the beer they drink, who they love and what they value in objects such as knives. 'Tis odd that you find this odd, actually.

Here, let me fix your quote to drive the point...

I'd suggest that the trap you may be falling into is assuming that "if money were no issue" as the OP asked, that everybody responding would aspire to own a more expensive knife. That's just not the case for some of us. No need to drop insulting terms like "pedestrian" on knives that don't tickle your particular fancies.

This legendary folder can hang with the best of them.

Very nice! I balked at these 10 years ago when they were $300-400 range, and was afraid to use one then. If funds were unlimited, I would buy a few of these a try battoning with them!

I like walking. I suspect you do too. I see no insult.

Tough question because people use their knives differently. Mine would be my Starbenza 25, because I've carried it pretty much exclusively since I got it. I have plenty of other good carry options, but the Sebenza always ends up in my pocket.

Here it is with my other Holy Grail Carry piece:

I'm going to bend the rules slightly and say a custom Lucas Burnley Squid with a westinghouse Micarta scale and M390 steel. And the standard clip he has done on his Squids would have to be changed a bit. We'll figure that part out later!

At first my answer was going to be something like a Ron Lake or Scott Sawby folder, but after handling some of those recently at Nordic Knives, I don't think I'd ever be comfortable carrying anything like that (just too nice). The Squid, on the other hand, would be well used.

I agree. A holy grail knife seems like something to aspire to, usually something too expensive or maybe very hard to get. I'm guessing that money is no object would also be in play when carrying it. I'm kind of surprised to see so many pedestrian knives mentioned as well. Although a Syderco may be a great affordable EDC knife I can't believe it would be classified as a holy grail knife. To each their own!

I think you are misunderstanding:

1) "pedestrian," which means "lacking inspiration or excitement; dull." Its not an insult. While excellent knives, an Opinel is quite ordinary. Pedestrian. And

2) "Holy Grail," which in this case means "something that you want very much but that is very hard to get or achieve". Hopefully, for everyone, it is not very hard to achieve an Opinel.

In my case I edc a Vic Classic and an Opinel. Both are great knives, incredibly dull, and easy to achieve. Not "Holy Grails."
