Holy Grail Everyday Carry?

People are different. Different in the shoes they like, the beer they drink, who they love and what they value in objects such as knives. 'Tis odd that you find this odd, actually.

Here, let me fix your quote to drive the point...

I'd suggest that the trap you may be falling into is assuming that "if money were no issue" as the OP asked, that everybody responding would aspire to own a more expensive knife. That's just not the case for some of us. No need to drop insulting terms like "pedestrian" on knives that don't tickle your particular fancies.

Actually, no. I meant what I said. It's odd that you would post up $23 worth of knives (with the seven thousandth reuse of your pic) in a Grail thread. To be polite about it, if your "grail" carry knives are two readily available and extremely inexpensive cheap, low/middling quality little knives/multitools, then I don't think you know what the term "holy grail" generally refers to. Hint, it's not referring to $23 worth of absolutely common carry items. Your little knives? They're pedestrian items. That's not an insult, it's a fact.

Sorry you felt offended, but then, I have to wonder why you always suggest those same two little knives in every single thread.

Again, sorry you don't like that or agree. :)

Interesting.

So, what makes it a grail knife, being that you already have it? Again "holy grail" means "something that you want very much but that is very hard to get or achieve."

Was it somehow challenging to acquire, at least? If not, then you are just talking about your favorite EDC, which is not the topic the OP proposed, I believe.

my holy grail from france... that was love at first sight... some day it will be mine.. Chambriard Le Trappeur

Gotta say my holy grail EDC knife is an Andre van Heerden/Andre Thorburn custom A3 folder, probably the best flipper I've ever touched and certainly one of the prettiest.

The Olamic Wayfarer is easily the next on my list, with the Todd Begg Bodega being #3.

Existing: Titanium Freeman 451 flipper

Reasonable wish list: Linerless Fluted Ti Delica with non-laminated SB blade.

I think you are misunderstanding:

1) "pedestrian," which means "lacking inspiration or excitement; dull." Its not an insult. While excellent knives, an Opinel is quite ordinary. Pedestrian. And

2) "Holy Grail," which in this case means "something that you want very much but that is very hard to get or achieve". Hopefully, for everyone, it is not very hard to achieve an Opinel.

In my case I edc a Vic Classic and an Opinel. Both are great knives, incredibly dull, and easy to achieve. Not "Holy Grails."

It would seem that some people have a different definition of the term grail. It is hard to rationally talk about a subject with such people when we can't even use the same accepted nomenclature. Either that or some folks are purposefully being contrarians. I find it hard to believe that a knife knut here for the love of knives would say $23 worth of readily available to anyone knives are a grail. Further, a knife of unknown quality and materials that one can purchase at any lowe's in blister packs of 15 for a $20 is even less plausible as a grail. Most here are obviously dealing with the subject on another level than a few.

For me, after getting several knives I thought were grails I have realized there isn't one for me, or it changes constantly, defeating the definition. Way too many knives that I love for doing lots of different things to keep myself from one all time best. I thought for the longest time the TGLB was my grail fixed blade. And don't get me wrong it is one of the best knives I own but it can't do a lot of stuff other knives can do. It can't be an all time grail because it isn't an all round knife. Just in the same way my CPK Field knife can't small things into oblivion like the TGLB. Different grails for different purposes. So when I think about it this way I can come up with category after category of different grails but at that point, none of them fit in the true definition of a grail....I mean, King Arthur wasn't searching for The Holy Grails .....

Ken Erickson Sportsman's knife, like this one:

I don't think Gus is giving it up any time soon though

Great point...I do continue to wonder if we are dealing with 1) people who are ignoring the "holy grail" premise of the thread....which seems like threadjacking, or 2) people for whom attaining 23 dollar knives, or even more so, 15 for $20 blister packs IS difficult.

If it is the latter, I hope those people can please forgive my insensitivity or snobbishness, as I said in my earlier post it is not my intent.

Yes. I also saw the scenes where he had to go though a series of deadly tests to get to it.

He didn't just walk into Walmart with 10 bucks.

+1!!

As Cray said, my "Grail" doesn't exist. There isn't one knife that will ever satisfy my want for another. I have gotten knives that I lusted after for a long time, and once I got them, the hunt slowly manifested itself again.
