Holy Grail Everyday Carry?

I think a 3V spyderco military with titanium reeve lock would be close to my grail.

At one time a Less George VECP was my grail. Now I have one so I need a new grail.

Did you ever see Indiana Jones and the scene about choosing the grail?

Somewhat seriously, I think Bob Loveless pretty much nailed it with this quote...

For me (and me alone and YMMV), when a knife becomes so dear to me to that I can no longer treat it with "a certain familiar contempt", I no longer feel in harmony with the knife. It has begun to own me, not the other way around. I learned this skiing with some hard chargers, who had a saying, "All skis are rock skis". It's very freeing to treat tools with contempt and I don't ever want to be burdened with a knife I fear loosing or breaking.

Probably not a bad way to look at most of a knife collection. But there are a few in my collection that have sentimental value or are just too pretty and nice to use.
Interesting post with the quote from Bob Loveless.

I found a deal that made it hard to pass on the TSF Beast and the TNC UL 18350 Triple Turbo is my choice for flashlight. I would really like the knifeart carbon fiber Small Sebenza 21 insigno for my next EDC grail knife, but priorities may have me waiting a while for it.

As has been pointed out many, many times previously in this thread "holy grail" is defined as "something that you want very much but that is very hard to get or achieve".
You might have pointed out many-many times however the OP asked: "If you could pick any knife in the world, regardless of cost, as your EDC, which one would you pick?" means for me it doesn't have to be acquired in a hard way or has to be expensive. You can pick "anything" doesn't mean hard to me. I think the question is, would you edc a super expensive-rare-hard-to-acquire knife? Are they really that much better?

It's one hell of a knife. In looking at the pivot, is yours on bearings? Mine is just PB washers, but opens super smooth.

I'm finding the Grail discussion as interesting as the knives.
Yesterday I was thinking this must be a very happy bunch of people, as so many already have their Grails in hand.
Today, the theme seems to be "this is my old grail, now I need a new one to look for."

We will soon be plagued by Grails.

If he was talking about easy to attain EDCs, I can only assume he would not have used Holy Grail in the title and just asked "What is your favorite EDC?"

As for your theory that the actual question is "Would you edc a super expensive/... knife?", if it was, then Im sure the OP would have asked that.

The holy grail for me isn't built yet. It has a blade that holds an edge like SV110, is tough as titanium, and as easy to sharpen as 420HC. Then it has to cost less than 50 dollars so I won't feel bad carrying it and beating the crap out of it. When I lose it, I'll just go to the local Big Box and buy another. Notice I didn't say "when I break it" because the only thing that's breakable about the blade is the laws of physics.

So we should disregard the title where it says "Holy Grail"?

Mr Tong, the OP, seems to be a "one & done" poster. Still has only one post. Vastly more interesting thread than most such posters.
In my opinion, the OP was off topic with his use of Holy Grail.

Interestingly, the OP hasn't clarified, so since we're all interpreting what he may have meant...

<edit>
I interpreted and still interpret his question to be, "What would your favorite EDC be even if price were no limiting constraint?"

The amazing and sad thing to me is the intolerance shown to those who would still carry an inexpensive knife. It's like doing so is an affront to somebody's religion.
</edit>

Do you consider production knives as "easy to obtain" or can they still be considered Grail worthy if they cost above a certain price? If so, what price do you consider to be the dividing line between Grail worth and "pedestrian" for production knives?

Or, can you conceive of Grail worthy in terms of length of the search? Can a knife of any cost be considered Grail worthy if it took less than a year to find? Does it become Grail worthy if the search took over a year? Over 2 years? 5? 10? What if a search took more than 40 years? Would you consider that to be a Grail worthy quest, regardless of cost?

So we should disregard the title where it says "Holy Grail"?

I must have missed your answer to a previously asked question... among production knives, what do you consider to be the price point that separates Grail worthy knives from "pedestrian"?

There was only one holy grail. If anybody had found it, it would have remained so. There can only be one, in each persons mind.

Classic start to long threads. He asked an open ended question based on a term that doesn't have universal agreement. Disagreement is pretty much guaranteed. However, utter intolerance of opposing views takes a special sort of talent.

I don't see how the post could be considered to be "off topic" in this, the General forum. "Off topic" is pretty much limited to religion, politics, personal attacks and such like that.

I have three that are borderline. FFKW Archbishop, Hoback S90v A10, or my K390 blade flipper. Or my Stellite 6K covert.

If not those, then probably a Stellite 6K Todd Rexford flipper. I would love that!!

Hypothetical- Ferrum Forge Fortis or Archbishop with a K390 blade.
