Holy Grail Everyday Carry?

The OP asked an under-defined question in the General forum and there is some disagreement on what the OP meant. A large and vocal majority insist that their particular understanding of what is or is not grail-worthy be taken as definitive for the entire thread, which is problematic since none of them are either the OP or moderators. Roughly speaking and taking L.O.D.'s statement, it's based on price with $100 being cut-off for what is or is not grail-worthy enough to be discussed.

I didn't see any mention of $ in the OP, and whoever brought that concept into this discussion is entitled to do so but it's irrelevant to the question asked.

suffice to say, I have a completely different idea than you do of what the intent behind the question was, and I think my idea is way more fun than yours. IMO ;)

one final point- if I still had to ride a chromoly mountain bike with rim brakes and no suspension, I wouldn't be nearly as capable a rider as I am with my suspension, 10 speed drivetrain, dropper post and disc brakes. That's a stone cold fact. I could say the same regarding my trail building and the knives I use for that purpose.

you sir, are the textbook definition of 'Retro Grouch'! (That's not an insult, btw :))

i carry my grail knife on occasion(large seb 21 dbl stud), but since obtaining it, it isnt really my grail knife anymore.. I mean its ok and a very nice piece, but it doesnt live up to all the hype "end all be all" etc granted i wanted one for a long time, but when it arrived, its really no more a knife than many i already have. i still cherish it, but i hesitate to use it like i use other less costly knives..

I understand that today bikes a better , but what has changed about knives last 30 years ? What can today's knife and not can that of twenty years ago :D

Open faster, lock safer, go for longer without having to be sharpened, more corrosion resistant (steels like H1 and such)

add to that; computer aided design, computer numeric control, an expanded and more diverse market, more information available via the internet, increased global trade and trade agreements, increasing immigration/emmigration, etc etc.

a side note, the grail knife I pictured earlier is over 30 years old. But I wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for the internet...

Grail is in, if money is no object. Seriously, it is a Knife, even the most expensive Sushi Knives are capped at a few thousand.

This is exactly the same way I felt about every single knife I've ever bought, and I still haven't learned my lesson :D

That was very entertaining. It's like Ninja Warrior for knife collectors.

Version One - Spyderco Gayle Bradley, my EDC. Feels and cuts good for me. I think I paid about $130 for it.

If you have never seen and are not familiar with the Gayle Bradley, here is a great video by the designer.

If you have never been to a knife cutting contest you are missing some amazing cutting. Here is a video narrated by Gayle Bradley, one of the judges.

I've been watching this thread, and waiting to respond, with the intent of verifying whether the ZT 0600 is actually my end-all be-all knife. Since picking it up late last year, it's been a top contender, for sure. I have been continually comparing it to my favorite knives currently in my possession, and trying to judge it against knives I've lusted after for a significant amount of time.

I have to say, having handled many customs, semi-customs, etc., that I think it just might be my grail. The only thing that might give it a run would be a Tony Bose handmade traditional in ivory or pearl.

Hey, if we're talking fantasy here, then I want both. One EDC carry, and one Sunday go-to-meetin' knife. :D

CRK Small Insingo Micarta. The best all-around EDC knife on Earth in my eyes. The large ain't bad either.

As the OP, I am having two assistants summarize every suggestion and putting it into a Poll.

Out of my collection? Alan Davis sod buster liner lock, quilted maple and well treated elmax.
It is my edc unless I am into a nasty cutting day. If I had the cash, probably all my folders would be from Alan.
