homemade sheath pic's, if you got em post em :D

Thanks Square peg...I had fun over the last holiday week hanging and making sheaths for my family that live up in the mountains above San Bernardino, CA.
 
I'm in the process of making my first axe sheaths. Never played with leather before so I'm planning on keeping it simple. I also don't have an awl or sewing machine so the first couple will only have rivets and glue. I have plain vegetable tanned leather and I was thinking I'd just give it a good coat of Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP. What do you guys use to treat, soften, or dye your leather?

Straight beeswax. Double boil the beeswax, use a rubber BBQ sauce brush to apply it to the leather, heat up the leather with a hair dryer and it absorbs (or preheat your oven to as low as it goes, apply the wax, stick the sheath in the oven until absorbed, repeat). Do as many coats as the leather will take, and it will turn into a medium brown colour and be extremely hard.

Here's a couple that I've made.
they're simple and effective and don't look too ugly.

This last one uses a screw and a tethered down knurled cap nut to secure the strap ( it's what I had, and it works real well )

I went ahead and tossed in a pic of a knife / sheath I made.
