I would like to start a thread...a bit cheesy perhaps, but I have been drinking today. I would like to mention those on this forum that make a difference to me in my outdoor adventures. I think that all of us take something different from this place..everyday. In that spirit, I think that we could here, in this post, mention those that have inspired us, helped us, made us laugh..or generally just made this a fun place to visit.
I figure that if we talked about each other, and the things that we have done or learned..we could add more fuel to the fire so to speak..and add to the overall experiance.
The folks that I would like to mention, in no way are the only people to help me, just the folks that I am thinking of now...I hope you will all take part, in thanking each other...again, cheesy as it may seem. We all make this a "SCHOOL" by partisipating and contributing...nows another chance.

My honorable mentions are...in no special order.
Brian Jones, Kevin Estela..for being cool, and teaching others with every breath or keystroke.
Marty Simon, for having that special something..a born professer.
Siguy (simon), smart, funny, talented, full of life...great human being.
TonyM and MarceloCantu..just plain ol cool as hell, great wit, and good guys.
Halo2..Mike, you are a great teacher and a cool guy to hang out with.
Baldtaco2, for teaching me humility..even though Ive eaten my share of that pie many times..aparently, Ive not eaten my fill:D
Misanthropist, for being a great contributer, and wise beyond your years.
Magnussen, I wish I lived closer..I would sleep out in one of your wool anoracks anytime man..
TX TonyDBS...great pics and reviews...
JWilliams..great reviews, and participation
BearsBreath, your a great guy..I miss your cooking, and conversation..anytime you want, I'll buy the beer, just let me know.
Resue Riley..Great guy, vids, participation..awesome human being..didnt even know me..and gave me a gift.
Myright, cause hes gonna say something if I dont mention him...
Charliedontsurf..one of my best buds..doesnt chime in..but hes lurking.
Hollowdweller, smart as hell, great taste in blades, and one of the best contributors.
Joezilla..what do I need to say..you da man.
silenthunterstudios...hes out there, and hes thinking! Great guy.
Talfuche..great contributor, and a great guy ...paint ball, me and my friends get together once a month during the summer. I have been playing off and on since I was 16.
Esav Benjamin, great wisdom, well written, everytime...and folks..he knows his stuff.
Pitdog..thanks for all the great photos..and you and me share a love for crazy big blades that scream..hollywood!
MntfolkMike..I love primitive archery..and so do you..you love your kids, so do I...knives..me to..thanks for the pics man.
Raindog..good friend.
Dr Bill, williamM..good bud, and great pics.

This is a great place..in a world full of BAD NEWS..B.S. and General Tomfoolery...I like this place, and I bet you do to.
To the rest of you..I reserve the right (since its my post) to edit all I want...and add you in..
PS..I am having another girl in 2 weeks or so..send smoke my way..

Dammit I didn't make the list... :) j/k

I agree, bro - this is a great place to hang out and gather info!!!

Hey, thanks man! I feel very honoured.

I don't want to mention anyone because I know I'll immediately forget someone and feel stupid later...

But screw it, here are some guys I want to thank:

Mike Goodwin. I actually need to get in touch with this guy because I have a bunch of his stuff.

But let me tell you, when my leg was smashed and I could go anywhere, he sent me a bunch of knife magazines, survival books, knife blades and cherry wood slabs to keep me busy, Also like two years worth of Playboy magazines which were VERY informative. I can't say enough good things about the guy and I really need to get my act together and return some of the stuff he lent me...now that I think about it I feel like a bit of a tool because I realize that was like a year ago...jesus.

Brian Jones of course...he's already been mentioned but the guy is just all class and everyone knows it!

Bryan Breeden has sent me a TON of awesomely useful info about knifemaking since I jumped in over my head. He's been on the email horn for me a bunch of times to explain how to unscrew myself after I do something wrong.

Scott Gossman also has given me a lot of useful advice...I mean both of these guys are pro knifemakers, you could understand how they wouldn't necessarily want to go giving away trade secrets but the do, and to who? Some Canadian yahoo with five days of stubble and a big, sarcastic mouth.

Pitdog who constantly supplies everybody with a ton of awesome hike pictures and also gives us dog owners something to strive for in terms of caring for and exercising a dog.

Or how about like 90% of the guys in the "injured outdoorsman needs search help" thread? I mean that thread made me get choked up people were so cool in there.

I am going to stop because I will just end up listing the whole damn forum.

This is BY FAR the best place I have ever found on the internet.

i hate making lists like this because i always forget people, but i might as well try as long as you started...;)

in no particular order...

Gene (gunknifeknut)-fun to hang out with around a fire, taught me a few (some important!) things about axes, knives and bushcraft in general

John (rescueriley)-incredibly generous and knowledgeable person, we've only met briefly in real life, but i would be willing to bet that you are alot of fun in person as well (based on videos and photo journals and the general person in your typed messages)

Mentor-i learned several things from you in my PSK failure thread(s), and i continue to learn new things almost every time you post

TonyM-plenty of laughs around the campfire, a great guy, and lots of bushcraft experience to go around...oh and one of the biggest collection of amateur custom knives i've seen! ;)

Marcelo-lots of fun, very polite, generous and excellent bushcraft skills. also loves his dog enough to bring her house along on a trip!

Brett (BearsBreath)-lots of fun around the campfire, awesome meat

Marty Simon-what can i say? this guy posts up an open invitation for everyone to come up to his place in the middle of the woods and camp out for a weekend with a bunch of like minded individuals...that alone makes him a great guy in my book  incredible amount of knowledge on bushcraft, hilarious sense of humor, generous and humble.

Aggie Simon-incredible food and nice bushcraft skills as well!

Kevin Estela-great teacher, fun around the campfire (blue dagger!:eek:)

Brian Jones-cool guy, nice bushcraft skills, nice person, downright silly around the campfire at night...;)

magnussen-i always take something away from your gear and philosophy posts. A++ stuff man, keep it up!

i'll add more as i think them up, i know i'm forgetting some people...and its not on purpose! ;)

i second this being my fav place in the nebulous inter(no i really am a deltaforcenavysealdeathdeathdealer, or i met one once at band camp)net... it also got me to stop bitching about not being in the mountains and find the best part of this place i am in.....

great site...

misanthropist,
I remember you getting stuff sent to you when you were injured..and I thought about the type of folks that frequent this place...good people seem to congregate here.
Simon,
Dont worry, you can always use the edit feature;)

No joking man, this place is like some kind of decency magnet. I am really proud to associate with you guys. I have learned a lot, not just about wilderness survival, but about being a good human being.

Thanks team WSS!

The way I see it..the headline reads "In a world gone mad, WSS shines through!"
Come on guys..I hope you arent thinking to much about your lists..write them from the heart:cool:

Smoke and prayers on the way. I can't argue with that list in any way.
Congrats and please have one of those Sams for me. When I get home I'll crack open a Rogue Captain Sig's Deadliest Ale to toast the new one!

Well, there are a TON of great people on this forum. I'm not going to try and list everyone, because I know I would not be able to remember everyone. Plus I know that I've learned a ton of stuff from people that I don't recognize or remember there screen names.

But here's a shout out to some people I can think of off the top of my head:

MtnFolkMike: Absolutely great guy, glad to have the pleasure of knowing personally. Talented, generous, and a great family man.

Boomstick: Another recent friend, that I met through the forums. Outstanding guy who'll do whatever he can to help someone out. Almost TOO generous. ;)

Jackknife: On the top of my list of people to meet from these forums. Lots of knowledge, and great stories on the other subforum.

Pitdog: Were would we be without all his picture contributions?

Lambertiana, gunknifenut, misanthrapist, siguy, Brian, Kevin, JWilliams, Fiddleback, Bryan Breeden, ah what the heck, if you are an active member on this subforum, here's to you.

Someday when I am actually near my house, you have to come and visit. The Rogue Brewery is 25 miles away and I would put their brews up against any in the world. We have to go tasting!

Good post. (Good beer too!)

Congrats on the girl! I have 2 teenaged sons and they are the best accomplishment I have or will EVER do. I'm proud to be part of their lives.

This forum is the best place to hang out-bar none. A few guys on here I count as friends even though we've never met. I WILL be adding to this list again and again...

TonyM, Jake Williams, Fiddleback, Siguy, Talfuchre, DJJ, DPKnives, Stomper, Mark of Charlie Ridge, Jeff H, Brian Andrews, Bryan Breeden, Kev and Brian, Koyote, Marcelo, Pitdog, Ray Laconico, mtnfolk mike, Rotte, John Riley.

These are guys who I have chatted with in person, or via PMs, or purchased multiple knives from, guys who have put up with my dumbassed thread drifts, my questions, comments, interests, enthusiastic nature, etc.

I am looking forward to getting to know some more of you-both the newer members and the seasoned veterans.

Ahh damnit I just noticed i am not very informitive. Im just a leech in the land wss. I need to make some reviews. I have vacation next week and i will review fiskars 24 inch chopping axe. And a corona 10 inch folding saw.

All great posts and lists. I agree with the "decency magnet". A couple that I'd add to the list are:

kgd
cmdionne
Kiahs
Cmdr249
rayban
Jackknife (doesn't post here much but worthy none the less)
Runningboar

I know I'm leaving a bunch off but thats my short addition to the "good guys".

Gene you know I love ya bro and smoke sent!

Here are just a few that I can remember.

Doc Canada(G.P.) Always goes out of his way to teach me something.
Kevin E.- Learned a bunch from this nut as well.
Marty Simon- Excellent instructor and he hasn't killed me yet.
Brian Jones- All around great guy
Siguy- Would share a campfire with this cat anyday!
JWilliams- Never met the guy, but I still consider him a close friend!
MtnflkMike- All around great person.
RescueRiley- Never met a more generous person.
Rockywolf- Another genuine and great person that makes this forum home!
Marcelo- I'ld say nice things about him; but he only lives a few blocks from me and might try to come over and hug.
Big Mike- Helluva guy. Puts wicked edges on my knives and shows me all the great hiking spots in CT

Man there is way too many great folks here to name everyone. I'm getting a headache just thinking about it. Everytime I come here I anticipate great posts and threads with outstanding pics. Guys like Pit, Magnussen, Bearthedog, Joezilla, stitchawl, Talfuchre, and many others make this such a great place.

Thanks all:thumbup:

Like Tony says, lots of great folks here, all willing to share.:thumbup:

From Brian Jones on down, the crew here can’t be beat,

…though there are times when Brian Jones should be beat.

"If you're not living on the edge, …you're taking up too much space."

Big Mike

Thanks two the three posters who mentioned me. It means a lot and I am honoured and embarassed. It means a lot.

This is the ONLY board I pay for the privilege to post at. This is one of the boards that make you want to be a better person.

TF

Threads like "Injured Outdoorsman" and "J.Williams Stolen Gear Replacement".... make me feel all warm inside like when I eat KFC.... not to mention the multitude of "Giveaway", "Thank you" and "learn from my mistakes" posts that also show the generosity and sincerity our members have. I feel closer to you guys than the folks at my previous job of 14yrs...

I won't mention names for fear of accidentally leaving someone out and purposefully leaving out Talfuchre.... cause that would be awkward for him.

WS&S ROCKS!!!!

I raise my burnt out coffee can... and offer a campfire toast to all you sumbitches!....
