Honorable mention thread

Man I wouldn't even know where to start, I guess Homo Doctoris Canada ( Doc Canada ) always springs to mind but within seconds so do many, many more.....Horndog, Riley, Fonly, Gene....the list goes on and on. I would also like to mention all the new members, some who may only have posted once or twice for they are the new blood that keeps this place the interesting place that it is !!!!!

PS..I am having another girl in 2 weeks or so..send smoke my way..

Gene,
It's spooky, you expecting in a few weeks. My wife is due on Feb 24, yeah another girl. And our 2 current daughters are real close in age, as I recall. Man, life is strange and wonderful sometimes, ain't it?

Hmmm...I gotta say there's quite a few. So...in no particular order:

Doc Canada: Always have some new bit of something we should know, especially in the botanical world.

udtjim: awesome cat...has helped out quite a few forumites including me

siguy: the dude puts a mean edge on a blade. What else can ya say? :D

tonym: great guy, helpin jake out was cool as hell

jwilliams: in addition to being an EMT (read:badass) he is a great guy and just doesn't hesitate to go out of his way to help someone else

B
ROCK6: Same as above, man.

bwian dones and kestela: sometimes y'all end up being babysitters, but that ain't usually the case. thanks for doing what you can to keep this place up and running.

of course, Spark: you started the show...thanks man.

I am not going to spend all morning typing up everyone who I think is inspiring on this list, so I will just highlight what I have seen: jwilliams replacement thread, injured outdoorsman..., pay it forward, all the passarounds, brians hypotheticals, and every "need advice on (insert gear here) thread that comes along.

You guys are all pretty damn awesome. Keep it up. Y'all are what make the outdoors look so damn good.

Gene, Great idea for a thread...In allot of ways the folks on here are like family to me than allot of my own blood relatives...II feel understood here, and I deeply value the connections I have developed with many of the folks on here, and I consistently value the experience and knowledge of everyone on here...I've learned So much from everyone on here and have witnessed unparalleled kindness throughout my tenior here... The list would be Long...too Long to fit on here..although I would like to give a special Nod to Doc for being my Plant ID mentor, But if I were to write a list many of you would be on there...
Thanks to everyone for giving me a wild place from within the confines of the big city..You guys are the best....Gene Congrats on the anticipated arrival..I have my 2nd on the way in April...

This is BY FAR the best place I have ever found on the internet.
This is the ONLY board I pay for the privilege to post at. This is one of the boards that make you want to be a better person.

Damn straight, gentlemen! I know I can be an opinionated dick at times, but I honestly hope no one takes that too seriously. I'm grateful and proud to be a small part of this forum, and I've learned more than I'll ever be able to repay. The cameraderie and genuine joy of life and nature y'all display is irreplaceable. Heck, just the photos people post here are worth the membership, not to mention the gear reviews.
More so, the general positive spirit you all express inspires me, as Talfuchre mentioned above.

I raise my burnt out coffee can... and offer a campfire toast to all you sumbitches!....

If any of y'all come to central WI, let me know when and you got a beer and a tall tale comin', on me. Allow me to introduce you to the beauty of Wisconsin and the ecstasy of squeaky-fresh cheese curds!

P.S. Let me give some respect to the all the knifemakers on here, as well. I've never known a group of such talented people who are so willing to help and teach. Especially considering, they're helping new guys who will compete for their business! Think about that for a second. :)

hmmm. I think I just explained to myself why 90% of my time online is spent in ShopTalk or W&SS...

Nothing wrong with a thread paying tibute to good folk, that's for sure! Since I am relatively new here, I have yet to get to know anyone in depth. I will say, however, that almost every post I have read is informative, eye opening, and always amusing. There is a very relaxed sense of commeraderie here, and I find that makes it all the more easy to learn from one another, as well as present differences in a friendly manner. So without concocting an ofiicial list, I would still like to thank Brian Jones for pointing me towards this sub-forum. If not for him, I would not have had the pleasure of sharing stories with everyone and learning along the way. Everyone here deserves a salute in their own right.

I really can't believe that nobody has mentioned Pict. Screw it, Pict you are right at the top of my list, no BS. Although I don't often open Utube (slow connection). I have learned quite a bit from you, most importantly the Arapuca. For all the things you have shown me, I thank you.

And Riley and tonym, any help I might be able to pass along to you is obligatory due to your keenness to learn and practise.

And, of course, I am always keen to read the postings of my fellow Canucks -............. at this point I deleted all the names I had already typed because, 1. I'm old and my memory sucks. 2. the lateness of the hour (I have to go to bed soon) and 3. impaired memory due to the demon rum (vodka in this case ), so let's just say, I am keen to read the postings of all my fellow Canucks.

Doc

I think an edit is called for (damn vodka :(): I didn't mean to imply that I didn't enjoy reading everybody else's postings, it's just that my fellow Canucks and I have a little bit extra in common - gun laws, knife laws, toy availability etc. and if I need particular incentive to get off my butt, there's always Maisy's pictures, oh wait a minute, I guess I mean pitdogs. :o

I enjoy everybody's postings, although I'm particularly fond of survival/primitive skills topics.

Like everyone has said lot of good folks on this sight, I'm sure I missed a few but it has been a long night with not much sleep. Chris

There are a ton of great people here in W&SS. I don't think I could do justice to everyone by attempting to list every individual that has impacted me, but suffice it to say there are quite a few :) The knowledge, experience, humor, kindness, and welcoming nature of many W&SS members truly makes this a sunny spot in BF. I can't even begin to describe how much I have learned since I started following threads here, or how many acts of kindness and decency I have seen displayed here on a nearly daily basis. You guys all rock, and I hope to contribute more as I get out and experience more

Gotta give a fellow Aussie a mention - Southerncross or Mick has been making some solid, thought-provoking contributions lately.

Without making a list, I'd say that all of you regulars (and some of you irregulars) are on it. I don't post anything particularly informative, being a mere greenhorn, but I hang around here alot and I have learned and have been influenced (positively) a great deal. This place is important, since none of my real-life friends are even remotely interested in this stuff. When faced with a problem, outdoorsy or not, I sometimes catch myself saying "what would the W&SS guys say/do?"

Gene,

Thats very cool, looks like our soldiers march to the same drum beat:eek:
Our due date is March 13th..but both of us think Feb 23-26th!! That would be cool if they were born on the same day...very cool.
Oh, and Raindog (Dave) you were one of the first friends I made on Bladeforums..thanks.

Gotta give a fellow Aussie a mention - Southerncross or Mick has been making some solid, thought-provoking contributions lately.

Yes he has..I have been reading his contributions on the forums for a long time.

Talfuchre--Thanks a lot for a ton of laughs! (And the very cool little fire steel! It came in the mail a few days ago! Your generosity means a lot to me.)

RescueRiley--For all of your introductory videos that allow a neophyte like myself to add skills to my repertoire. And the items I received from you from the Christmas-time giveaway have proven invaluable to me. You're a generous man both with your belongings and your mind.

Magnussen-For your all-round upstanding character and humble advice on a variety of subjects. It's folks like you that help to make this community such rewarding place to frequent. And that trick you showed us all for lengthening the life of your ferro rod works like a charm! I'll never go back.

K_Estela-For your help in finding a good place for me and my lady to go camping this summer! And for going the extra mile by volunteering your company--if manage to go I know who to call!

Everyone Else-You're all a great group of folks and it's an honor to be able to learn from you on a daily basis. I've been bit by the survival bug and there is no cure! :D

I post here and in the Busse forum. Both are filled with folks that have helped me, inspired me, educated me and so on. Too many to name in fact, but I am very thankful for this place and it's inhabitants.

all I can say is thanks. there is no way to put a cost on all I have learned. there can be a cost applied to all of the new toys I've learned about and want, and its big. compared to many of the other places I frequent on-line that require activating my "internet stupid filter" you guys are literally fresh air.

Back at ya, Gene. And thanks!

I've learned a lot from many people on this forum. And all of the folks I've met (you, your brother, Tony, Marcelo, Simon, the rest of the guys at the New England and Connecticut get togethers, Marty, Aggie, Kevin, Brian and others whose names escape me) have been top notch. Thanks all.

This place --well, actually the people here-- is --are-- the best!

Shoot (or stab?) your television and enjoy Bladeforums more often.

Stay sharp,
desmobob
