Horace Kephart Tribute..."Beckerized"...

They should make this model but with the tweener scales instead, then it'd be perfect.

Oh wait, that's basically the 16 isn't it.

Wow... I LOVE that. Would get one ASAP as well.
Thanks man.

Yeah, that is so awesome. I would buy that for sure. Thanks Warrior.

Also....when is KABAR going to hire the Warrior? :)
Tanks brudda.

Tweener scales are too small for my hands anywhos, but the idea here was to make it like the original. Of course, these may be too small too, haha. Dang big hands limit the knives for me. No, not the 16 at all. 16 is a drop point, this is a spear point. Plus, the blade is convexed on the Kephart, and relieved on the spine. 5" blade.

EDIT: Comparison:

Guess the GIMP was not asleep. That looks fantastic!!
Thanks man, appreciate it.

Any idea how long the handle is on the Kephart?

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

Any idea how long the handle is on the Kephart?

The photo I used from Ethan's thread, has the knife sitting on paper with one inch squares. 5" blade, maybe a 4 1/2, to 4 3/4 handle. Not exactly straight on, so a bit hard to tell.

It's nicely rendered, and a fun concept of course, but in practical terms I don't think it would work that well. The powder coat that nearly all Beckers come with would kill (or at least hamper) its performance as a hardcore bushcrafter, which is pretty much the main purpose of traditional kepharts. Of course, the time-honored fix would be to strip it.

No problem.

Thanks. I hear what you're saying, and even thought the same thing myself. Hard to keep 1095 in storage without it rusting though, hence why they coat them. You are correct though, stripping would be the answer. The smooth coating, like the older models had, would definitely work better than the current crinkle coating. The BK20, and BK29, the later releases, have the smoother coating. Maybe they're going back to that coating?

It's certainly possible. If that's the case, the Beckhart becomes a much more interesting proposition. Though, in terms of marketability, there would still be the problem of Kabar (and thus Becker) not being known for bushcraft knives.

Thanks man.

What's your idea of a bushcraft knife?

From L.T. Wright, widely known for making bushcraft knives (and indeed kepharts). Kabar, meanwhile is known for making things like this-

Not that there's anything wrong with things like that, but you wouldn't exactly call it a bushcraft knife.

Well, I didn't want this thread to get side tracked, but a scandi grind knife doesn't make it a bushcraft knife. They are popular for that, for sure. The Becker BK16 has been a popular choice for bushcrafting.

To me, whatever knife I have/take with me is a bushcrafting knife, etc.

Again, I prefer to keep this thread on topic, but, I did ask.

Fair points, fair points. Why don't we just agree that the Beckhart will have some problems getting to market before this thread gets completely derailed? :D

It's just a rendering, not a reality. Anywhos, good to see my thread here brought you back after 2 years to make your 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th post, haha. Glad to have you here. Stick around, this is a good forum with a lot of good people.

I very much like the Kephart design and have been him-hawing around about getting something better than the Condor version. Nice Beckerized rendition of the Kephart design.

Any of you guys hit the Kephart gathering last weekend in north GA? I decided that with my lack of loose funds and the 3 hour drive, it was not worth it to attend.
