Cool project! I really dig a hori hori. Have been using them for years farming and gardening. Here's an old beater along with a harvesting knife.

Very Cool Phil! what is the OAL (Approx) on that Hori? They definitely have seen some use!

Thanks everyone for your comments. Jonathan I do it on almost all my knves, it adds a bit of time for me but I really like the look. I especially like to do this on Natural materials to break up the "Big ol piece of wood" look.

Jason I should have it cleaned up and to you today! I will get photos up later

Erik I don't know about inspiring, but it has been a fun one

Overall length is about 9 inches. I know because I have often used it to gauge planting distance within the rows. Two lengths is about 18", which is a good distance between taro plants. The whole length plus a few inches is a foot. A smidge more than the blade length is about 6".

Thanks Phil, I can see how these would be very effective tools!

I have finished her up and it is now in Jason's hands... I was able to take a few photos before I let her go.

Perfect execution on a very useful tool. I love the way that you did the serrations, and I really dig those burlap scales. Great piece Ryan.

Thanks Shawn! I like the serrations but need to make some changes so they handle dirt a little better. Hopefully Jason will let us know how it does under heavy use.

Very nice work Ryan...your attention to detail really makes the Hori Hori sing.
Thanks Gevonovich!

Sweet! That looks very useful.

I can dig it!

Thanks FOD! I realized I had your company name wrong in the earlier post... Just corrected it!

The Glow Natural Canvas Micarta worked out great!

Ryan that turned out nicely! I really like what you did with the scales, glow too! Awesome grinds and attention to detail, it would taker no less than a jackhammer to remove those scales the way you did them.

Thanks Daniel. That is how I do all my scales, I have nightmares about scales breaking off during use! Thanks for you comments in this thread!

I know what you mean about nightmares, testing helps me sleep at night, lol! :D I feel good about the way I attach mine (pretty much the same way) after trying to remove some scales with a 3# sledgehammer and they wouldn't budge. I drilled out all the pins from the knife, froze it then went at it with sheer force on the ends of the scales... no luck. :D

Keep up the great work!

Hey Brad, long time

That is exactly what its first official use will be, probably 10am or so Wednesday morning...
