"Horizon" 2014 new knives Lightning quick opening, from china Reate custom knives inc

Thank you for all the interesting posts. I have only been partaking in this "hobby" for a couple years now. I use to collect other things, including comics. I remember some of the discussions on those forums about slabbed books by CGC and PGX and the "debates". This has some of that flavor.

To the pontiaker guy, Matt, It seems like you're setting the record straight, I'm glad.

To the russian guy complaining about the price. I understand your point, but here's something you're not getting. I am new to this hobby. I have only bought and tried out around 30 knives so far, I have a box full that I will be reselling, mostly CRKT stuff. I watched some reviews on youtube about the fake hinderers and one about a fake transformer knife (are you that russian guy?) and so I went to Alliexpress and bought a fake hinderer. It is awesome. I own a ZT 0560 and a couple reate district 9's (A and B) and I really still love that fake XM-18 for $50. BUT, and here's the big but, I have no idea what it is made of. They claim D2 (?), but I will prolly never know. The fact is that until these fake companies put there name on their products the quality will be speculative at best. Reate is offering a warranty. Lifetime. That changes the parameters I make decisions based upon as far as purchasing a knife for over $100.

I think the big question to ask is will the people associated with Reate now or in the future still tinker in the fakes business? If so that could be dangerous to the entire market because it allows them to make fakes of a competitors knives in order to flood the market which will not only take sales away but also mar the authentic due to people getting a "bad" knife and blaming it on the authentic companies standards. A company working on both sides of the fence is dangerous for anyone involved in a hobby except for the fence hopper. Hopefully the people at Reate will become as concerned with counterfeit's within their own country as some people here are and become allies in the fight to curb the practice.

I have to say though, the hinderer XM-18 clone got me to love that style and so I bought a ZT 0560, and the Ganzo G710 got me to buy the Benchmade 950. We don't have too many knife stores where I live, and some of the clones, for someone unwilling to spend $100 or more on a knife are a nice step up for a working class dude. I showed my friend a ganzo 710 not too long ago and then he bought my SOG Vulcan from me. He's hooked.

There is a difference in quality between knives, you can feel it and it shows in how they work. Some companies with long standing brand names have been selling knives that really could be better. The Chinese seem to be pushing the quality to get better. Maybe? I don't know.

I own the reate District 9 A & B and just bought a Horizon C on a bit of a whim. I don't think I'm gonna love the C and may just re-flip it on ebay, but I do love the District 9's. They are too heavy, but hella cool Bobba Fett (as one reviewer said), space tank looking. And they seem to work great. Not as good, nor as light as my ZT 0560 though. I would love to get my hands on a Horizon D, but that may be just a dream.

One day I might own custom American made mid techs from small local manufacturers. But I'm not that far along in this hobby yet.

That's my two cents, thanks for listening.

I went and looked up all those makers and knives you spoke of on alliexpress. Are you aware that you are advertising for them?

So, coming back to this, it turns out that I do love the Horizon C and all the other Reate knives I've purchased as well. I now have both D9's, both Valkyries, the horizon a,c and D and the hills and I'm saving up to buy a Todd Begg steelcraft REATE kwaiken. I will also pick up the torrent at some point. They are superb knives.
