Hornswoggled!

Your work is stunning my friend, I have always liked looking at your Knives and the skill set involved- amazing! I note that you have a style to your Knives - and that's a great thing! Out of curiosity - have you ever done a big Bowie or a Big camp knife? ( I hope I don't offend in any way whatsoever in asking the question ). :).

Yes sir and thanks for the kind words! Lets see if I can round up a few pics for ya. A Bowie:

Another Spanish traditional handmade by José Expósito Picazo. An interesting note on this knife (aside from the unique hollow grinds) is the lack of visible pins on the ram horn covers. The horn extends underneath and is pinned through the nickel silver caps.

I’m not big on powderhorns, but I really like this one. Love the blade shape and details. 👍🏻

A revival is in order :) This arrived last week from Germany, Ram's Horn. Nothing costly but F&F very good and the blade is a dream for slicing anything. Pallares often come with nice resin handles but this Ram's Horn is really good in the hand, I believe they make Ebony versions too. Well worth getting.

I have two of the resin handled. The smaller "leaf" blade gets toted more often than the larger clip point.
Neither get toted as often as they should, however. 🤨 Maybe I'll add the "leaf" bladed to my pocket ...🤔

Question:
I don't know the age of mine or era they were made.
Do you know if they have always stamped the stainless blades with "INOX"?
That "word" or "abbreviation" does not appear anywhere on mine.

P.S. I thought they are/were Spanish ... Solsona is in Spain ... Learn something new today, I did. 😁👍

waynorth waynorth Sorry for posting a photo non-horned knives. If you want me to delete the photo, let me know, and I will.

afishhunter afishhunter Yes Pallares are Spanish/Catalan, my knife arrived from a German seller who had stock. The Leaf is a lot better blade in my view, so get slicing. If it doesn't have Inox on it then it's carbon. Both take a decisive edge

Thanks, Will

Will, glad to see it arrived. I admit, I am a bit jealous, that horn is fantastic! Only thing I would change is for carbon steel, but I know how you feel about that and stainless suits you very well!

Hopefully winter won't dry it out too much... I rub a bit of pure lanolin into my horns a few times a year. Not sure if it really does anything, but if feels good on my hands!

Enjoy that knife, they are excellent slicers!

draggat draggat Thank you :) Not sure if it is available in carbon as I think Pallares have been having supply & production problems due to the situation in Europe. I'm not against carbon-probably have more of that steel than stainless-but it's a practical thing at times. Not had problems with Mufflon (Ram/Sheep Horn) very much but with Ox buffalo yes. The colour is perhaps more blonde than the pictures show-not much light here now-and I've found beeswax furniture polish to be a very good thing to use on horn knives.

These are great users and very satisfying, the Salami fears its presence :D Thinking about an Ebony one next or even a Resin handled budget one.
