Horrible decision..knife or gun?

So, have you decided whether or not to get a knife or a gun?

Yes, I did my taxes tonight and I forgot that I had some business losses from a company I owned part of that I sold off to start the business I now own so I am getting a little more than I planned on (who knew being a bad business man could pay off in a way)...So, I ordered a W&H Model WH9SW and also bought the Tomcat. I also bowed down to the pressure to buy a larger gun and put some money down on a Kimber Custom stainless .45 ACP which I can hopefully pay off in late february when my current project sells. Until then I will be hiding the receipt so that I do not get in a boat load of trouble at home.

That's an interesting perspective but my take on history is that the so called "liberals" in the southern states (where they were sometimes referred to as "Dixiecrats") were generally rural in their orientation and far more conservative in their views than the liberals in the northern states. Heck, I think they even started this war over the states rights issue.

You are right...dixiecrats were more conservative than what some people consider "modern day liberals". But they were still liberals who believed in personal freedom and smaller government. I wish we could go more back to that. Traditional Rebublican stances in history increased govt's role in our lives and gave more power and authority to big business. I am a republican but also a liberal. So I get associated with the right wingers like Bush/Cheney that are not true republicans and the far left wackos that chain themselves to trees that are not real liberals. And for the record the war of the states was started or several complex issues including manufactoring, population base, control of shipping routes, and to a small degree personal rights. The Webster's dictionary definition of liberal is...Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded. How can that be turned into a bad term?

Mr. PlayboyPenguin, you are in favor of us being allowed to carry a small handgun concealed if we meet all the qualifications and you also badmouth the Glock. You sure don't seem to know much about guns. Politics either for that matter. While I would not get caught dead with a glock in my house I have to agree that they are good dependable guns. Just ugly as hell. And you need to know that the word "liberal" as it is used now does not have the same meaning that it used to many years ago.

True. Our founding fathers were "liberal" and are spinning in their graves over what is considered liberal today.

Exactely...and I think us "true liberals" need to take it back from the weirdos. We do not however have to feel that since we do not agree with these new age so called liberals that we have to turn to the darkside and become conservatives. Lets get some true freedom loving, open minded, non-judgemental liberals back in power.

Sad, that a nice subject thread needs to degrade down to a debate more fitting for the Political forum.:(

I don't see at degrading debate at all. Just adults speaking civily about the historical precendent of the meaning of a word. And if I've broken any "internet protocol" I apologize. Jeez.

Not really a problem my friends. It is just that politics can get ugly and I find the knife content much more to my liking.
I too have strong political leanings. I try not to get into it in polite company because it can get ugly and angry quickly. That is just my opinion though.:o

I used to have a little Beretta 950 Jetfire. Sweet little gun. Probably couldn't stop a large rat in its tracks, but very neat nontheless. I have a feeling most people on this board are going to recommend the knife, but look where we are.

ArchAngel,

How do you like that Kimber? A CDP II is on my short list of next guns to buy.

Love it!! It shoots great and is a great light EDC piece. The only thing that has irked me about it is the plastic mainspring housing. I will replace it one of these days. Great function though. No issues in the 1500 rounds through it so far.

In my opinion Glocks suck...I have owned pistols since I was 9yrs old and Glocks just suck. The only reason they stay around is because they practically give them away to police forces then use that as advertising. I have a couple friends that are local Portland police officers and they hate their Glocks. The only reason the city buys them is because Glock sells them to them at cost which is $73.00 and I assume that includes shipping.

Glocks suck?? Suck how?? Reliability? Out of box Acurracy? Price? QC? Ergonomics? Design? It would seem that your "opinion" makes absolutely no sense. If you've just decided that you dont like glocks, thats perfectly fine, but to say that they SUCK.... You dont hear that statement too often - especially from pro shooters and gun experts such as Massad Ayoob. Yea they suck - thats why they have seen such little sucess.
ps. Know what your talking about before making such statements - If you had, you'd know that glocks are excellent firearms across the board whether you like 'em or not

I actually finshed my degree in history--I didn't find it a "waste of time,"--and, in looking back at incidents of crime here in Central Ohio, I can find NO examples of criminals using full-autos or armor-piercing ammo in their exploits. However, Columbus recently passed a law banning "assault weapons" inside city limits. Now I am a felon for having a M1A National Match and a accurized Mini-14 because, among other things, they have FLASH SUPPRESSORS!! I have my CCW permit exactly so I CAN carry my Wilson Combat .45 into grocery stores and other such places. Call me kooky but if I'm in an establishment where armed men sometimes come in and force people to lie-down so they can be executed (can't have any witnesses!) I am comforted by the thought I might actually be able to have SOME control over my own (and other innocent people's) destiny! There are MANY examples of really heinous crimes that might have been STOPPED if armed citizens were actually USING their CCW permits!! Oh, and your comments about Glocks are ridiculous. I don't like there looks either but there is NO disputing the fact that they are rugged, reliable, and pretty accurate. I have a Kimber too BTW and it is a fine pistol. In any case, I don't mean to come across as hostile but MAYBE you should go back and actually finish that history degree! Jim Falor SEMPER FI

OK, if it means so much to you I will express why I hate Glocks. :D
I do not find them comfortable to handle. I do not like the trigger pull, I do not like the blocky design, I do not like the cheap platic feel of the handles, I do not trust any gun that takes less than $75 dollars to produce, etc...and something does not have to be good to sell...it is more about the price point. Most dealers I know will tell you that Glocks are mostly popular with guys who have a little money to spend, a little gun knowledge, and a big desire to have something that looks cool. Keep in mind I am much more of a revolver guy and have a hard time finding an autoloader that I actually do like.

P.S. I do think they make excellent range guns because they are no big loss after a few years of firing if something goes wrong.
