Horsewright Knives and Leather

Working on another batch. Here they are lined out and ready to be assigned a slot in the box for sheath making. Quite a few of not my knives in this batch for sheaths too.

They've been sharpened and they get a finally cleaning and polishing as well as their handle thong at this time too. Then they are assigned a slot number and put in the box. I also write down what sheath I am making for what number.

The list of all the sheaths on the yellow pad and my sheath patterns dumped out of their storage bag.

All the sheaths are cut out and ready to proceed with. One of my comparison pics as a fellow BF member was wanting to know the diff between the two:

Doing some Damasteel in this batch too for a few special projects. A Vaquero Ultralite (no handle material this one is basically done), on top and a Western Sgian Dubh:

Cold at night but still able to grill:

Bout this time folks start thinking of Christmas gifts so we see an uptick in our Horseshoe Drink Coaster sales:

These can be personalized with a brand, logo (if not too complex) initials or left plain with just a border stamp.

Thank you sir. Yep I'm pretty good at Tri Tip, one of my specialities! The links are wild boar jalapeño and cheddar sausages. They are fantastic.

Very fine indeed Dave

First to all who have served, Thank You, today and every day!

My grandfather and grandmother on his return from Europe at the end of WW1. He was in the Army, the Calvary prior to WW1 and participated in our invasion of Mexico chasing Pancho Villa around. He was attached to Pershing's staff in that he rode the General's horses for him, keeping them ready for the General.

Again thank you all that have served!

Here's a few of the knives in this batch. Someone was interested in a comparison of the smaller end:

The customer, she picked the Cowboy Toothpick with rosewood and wants a Boot Sheath with it.

And what do we have here?

A sheet of 26C3! Time to start profiling.

Now why am I not surprised that your grandfather was in the cavalry?

Oh it gets worse. I had two ancestors, brothers, at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. One survived the other did not. One was Master of Arms to Duke William, the other..... what else but Master of Horse to the Duke! Now since I haven't strayed too far from the family horse thing I should also mention that De Ferrer was the original last name, Ferry being a contraction of that. Ferrer means to bind with iron. We came from an area (well we owned it) that was a large arms making place. Thus providing arms and armor for the Duke was what we'd of done. De Ferrer means of the place that binds with iron. So making knives, just family tradition.

Unfortunately my grandfather passed away (in 1973) before I was old enough to ask smart questions. I bet there was some cool stuff there. My mother (these are her parents), told me one time her dad was with the General in DC. He was exercising one of the General's horses in a city park. He saw a hot chick (the term my mother used) and started putting the horse through its paces kinda showing off. It worked. The hot chick is in the pic above.

So your ancestors worked for mine. One of my family lines goes back to William.

I think one of these has got my name on it - or I am in the home stretch somewhere. Can't wait and I love to see the progress pictures.

Cowboy with unbolstered elk and AEBL. I just squared my invoice with y’all last week, figure we’re getting close maybe!
Heck yeah finishing off the sheath. Just didn't realize that was you!! In that pic second row down and second from the left.
