Horsewright Knives and Leather

Thanks.Yep we often joke about taking a pic of our four hands together and saying everything we sell is made by these four hands! Haven't got around to it yet but its not a bad idea.

Well I barely had enough chestnut leather to re do @AusLoX s sheath. But I did and I didn't screw it up this time! A Cowboy in 26C3 high carbon steel with amber stag carved bone:

I had done two knives with turquoise spacers in this batch. This Paisano too. Had a local gal over, a friend of ours from the horse world and she was picking up a belt we'd made her for a buckle she'd won. She was looking at all the knives in the box where they sit while I'm working on sheaths. She kept looking at them and putting them back and then pick up another.. I'd noticed she kept picking up this Paisano, 5 or 6 times probably and finally she says this is my Christmas present to my self.

Well not too much time this morning. Have to run a horse down the hill to have its wolf teeth removed.
Thank you Dave! It looks great and should be here this week.

Yeah that sucks when it "falls of the welt"
Nice to know you are still human Dave😉☺️
Great work mate!
Ya know even after all these years and thousands and thousands of sheaths, yep I'll toss one. Kinda a story goes along with that, that was funny for us. When I was building that sheath for that Bolo machete:

CO4vFVX.jpg

After I finished tooling the top part there I came inside to show Nichole. Now I'd never built anything like this before and so much of leatherwork is what process at what time on a project. I told Nichole that I didn't know what to do next. She said: "If you don't know, who do we check with to find out?" I went hmmm.... and shuffled back outside and put it together. But I do still screw up. Current batch I'm working on right now, there's a 26C3 blade in the trash can!
Beautiful work as always.
Never heard of wolf teeth
Thanks. I guess they are kinda like wisdom teeth in folks. Sometimes a problem and sometimes not. Her's was very intact and sharp. Came right out when the vet removed it. They can cause their mouth to be sore and they can interfere with the bit on occasion too. She did need a little general dentistry besides the removal too.. Might as well do er while she's sleepy.

Wooooooo! Thanks Dave!
You are welcome and thank you!

Dave, thanks for explaining the teeth.
Ya bet. So like our youngster Mitchy The Kid, his were proactively removed when he was night night while being gelded at six months or so. Then they are never a problem.

Happy Thanksgiving Dave and Nichole 🦃🤠

Thank you and to you too David as well as everyone here. Actually took the day off. Back in the shop today. Finished another batch of knives off Wednesday and will start the sheaths today.

Mine arrived a couple of days ago but sat on the kitchen counter neglected as I navigated this week. Great little knife, thank you Dave and Nicole! I don’t think I’ll use it to open any doors but it’s good to know y’all stand behind them.IMG_5445.jpegIMG_5443.jpegIMG_5444.jpegIMG_5448.jpeg

Great pics, thanks and thanks for the order. When I first started making knives, one of my design goals was to basically make an unfolded pocket knife. Your last pic shows I’m kinda there, I figured that would kind of be the ideal fixed blade “cowboy” knife.

That makes a lot of sense. It’s a great companion to a folding pocket knife and is more accessible than said pocket knife especially with the sheath we selected.

Funny anecdote, I was showing it to a friend of mine who is from Encinitas (I think) and he immediately recognized your tang stamp. He is not on BF but told me he has purchased a few knives from you at horse shows going back over the years.

I can't begin to tell ya how many knives I've sold to guys the day after a "wreck", where they needed to cut something and couldn't get to that folder their pants pocket under the chaps quick enough. Around cattle and horses things can get "western" quickly sometimes.

I was once at a roping where we had a booth. Started counting my knives that went by. I was at 37. These were the ones on folks I didn't know, not counting friends that I did know.

Working on sheaths yesterday. Nichole comes out to the shop and she's wiping her hands with a blood spotted paper towel looking similar to your deal. She said she'd just been washing the steak knives and she knew I'd just sharpened them, well cause she asked me to, but dang. She said she'd cut herself twice washing the steak knives. I've made the steak knives and her kitchen knives too as ya'd expect. I sharpen them once a year, usually the day before Thanksgiving. I'd given her ample warning. After sharpening I wipe the blades down with WD40 to clean off gunk. So then I handwashing's the blades with soap and water to get the oil off before drying them and putting them away. We got one of those Scrub Mommy things and it was having slices of the scrub side cut off and falling into the sink.

I was talking bout running into folks that I know and don't know sporting Horsewright stuff. Thought a few pics might be in order:

Fletch was over to the house the other day. Here he was sporting a Horsewright folding knife sheath, a water buffalo leather belt an water buffalo overlaid holster for his Sig and a Roper Wallet. Brother Bill with a Double Mag Pouch a knife in a Horizontal sheath:

Occasionally I'll make a pair of chaps, although not too often anymore, mostly for friends like Bear here first or Adam. I don't think I made Adam's sheath:

Do you happen to know what knife is in that sheath?
Yes sir. Bout a hundred plus years (give or take a couple), ago I put together three folding knife kits. The idea was I was gonna learn how these folder thingys worked and then I was gonna build em. So I made three. Fletch has one, Steve our ranching partner (above with the suspenders), has one and Fletch's sister in law Karyn has the other. What I learned is folders is not how my head works, not even a lil bit. So I do admire folder makers but I ain't one. Fletcher's was handled in sheephorn so was Karyn's and I think Steve's was jogged bone.

I have since tried a couple kits since then at Fletch's request. Still ain't my deal. Not even a lil bit. Also the more current kit that we tried was way off on the holes. It blew up when I tried to pin it together. I make fixies.

I love that last one, I bet that went fast. Do you have a new website? It looks good. 👍
Thanks! Yeah that Sonoran Hunter was only on the website for a few minutes before it sold. Yes sir we had to redo it completely the other night. Our host had made some updates that broke some of our pages and it was unfixable. After getting several calls from customers saying that it froze up when they tried to pay., Nichole who handles all that kind of stuff got on the phone with our hosting company. They tracked down the deal. She then called our IT guy our son Josh. He said I'll grab my lap top and be over what's for dinner. Josh and Nichole built the new website that evening, Tuesday it was. I wasn't really involved cause I don't really understand that stuff. Not even a lil bit!
