Horsewright Knives and Leather

Thanks! Yeah that Sonoran Hunter was only on the website for a few minutes before it sold. Yes sir we had to redo it completely the other night. Our host had made some updates that broke some of our pages and it was unfixable. After getting several calls from customers saying that it froze up when they tried to pay., Nichole who handles all that kind of stuff got on the phone with our hosting company. They tracked down the deal. She then called our IT guy our son Josh. He said I'll grab my lap top and be over what's for dinner. Josh and Nichole built the new website that evening, Tuesday it was. I wasn't really involved cause I don't really understand that stuff. Not even a lil bit!
I am sure you helped in other ways. Grill going and beverages full

Here's something interesting. I've never offered this before. A set of four steak knives:

While I've made quite a few sets in the past, they've always been for an order. I've never made a set to sell before.

Figured Christmas time would be the time to do it.

Very nice
for me it would be 1 + 3 spare. My friends and family wouldn't respect or appreciate them.😆😁

Yeah that can be a problem. We've got a set here from many years ago and they have somehow survived too. Not so much the fam as it is other folks over for dinner and people tossing things into sinks of soapy water. Most folks over these days have been trained.

Sorry took so long to respond. I go kinda radio silent this time of year. Busier than a one legged man at a butt kicking contest and neck deep in alligators but paddling like a big dog. However there is light at the tunnel. Just four more orders to finish off, a holster, a sheath and two rifle scabbards.

Finished off the last batch before Christmas and posted them yesterday.

So David echoscout echoscout sent me his Randall to get fitted for a sheath. When you don't read your own shorthand correctly ya end up making two sheaths, the first because you make it backwards and the second to get er right and make what your customer/pard ordered!

The wrong one:

A knife with a pronounced finger guard such as this Randall can be made to really lock into the sheath. Lifting up on the handle first and then withdrawing the knife is the key.

NICE. Is that rough out or what?

Thank you sir. Always busy for sure!

Thank you. No sir, that's water buffalo that has been overlaid on the top side of the sheath. We use two different tannages of water buffalo and they are very different. This is a chrome tanned water buffalo. It is soft and velvety and does give the impression of roughout almost. We first started using this leather for leggings:

CFtpXKK.jpg

The problem with leggings is that you have large chunks of leather left over. Not enough usually to make another pair of leggings but too much to throw away. So we started coming up with other ideas on what to do with this excess leather. Water buffalo overlaid items like sheaths and holsters were some of them.

The other type of water buffalo is veg tanned. It's a great belt and strap leather. We make a a lot of belts from it. It has a great broken in feeling right from the get go. Had a friend stop by the shop the other day for a cup of coffee and he was kinda Horsewrighted up. He has a belt on of water buffalo and his holster is water buffalo overlaid.

AZ5NY1P.jpg

We did his knife sheath and the wallet too. Couple of belts:

LV2VJzj.jpg

MPzz3zQ.jpg

Now just to confuse things we will make water buffalo overlaid belts too. Mrs Horsewright out fixing fence a few years back. Knife sheath, holster and belt from water buffalo overlay.

xjOhbkm.jpg

This pic probably shows the difference the best. One of Mrs Horsewright's duffel bags:

LUEI7EU.jpg

The body is the soft chrome tanned water buffalo. The straps and handles are the firm veg tan water buffalo. Hope this helps.

This Rangeflap holster looked good with one of the In Stock knives and sheaths.

Made a handful of travel bags and some Christmas Stockings:

That kinda wrapped up our Christmas orders for us.

I always joke about being semi retired these days..... let me share with you The Ghosts of Christmas Past:

Remember while most of these aren't showing knives in them I did make the knives too to go in them too. An average Christmas rush would be two batches this size.

Working....

Edited to add: It'd help if I would actually include the pic I was talking about.

I posted this pic one Christmas time saying I was all done. Remember one guy, another leather bender, saying if he had to do that much prior to Christmas we'd find him under the bed curled up in the fetal position. Always thought that was funny!

Snow in the back ground for Christmas. We have 100 degree temps with bush fires. The world is a complex place. 🎅 🎅 🎅
