I've been using battery junction 123's in my surefires & streamlights for a few years with no prob's.

OK, friends and flashlight snobs, noobie checking in here for some edumacation. Go easy on me. :o

Before you dispense all your wisdom, some particulars. I really don't want to sink a bunch of money and time into lights. Already do that with knives, don't need two expensive hobbies. So, no drop-ins, customs, or expensive tacti-cool lights. I won't be in the woods at night or need to burn any paper. I don't want to hang around CPF to stay up on this stuff.

I have seen a few that look reasonably priced and would serve my modest needs. Mainly I want one smallish light for the bedstand, will also go in the travel bag to have in a hotel room or on vacation. Maybe another even smaller one for walking the dog around my suburban hood, make sure we don't walk up on a skunk.

This one caught my eye the other day, a Surefire G2 LED.

This one might be better in that role, either the Maratac version or the ITP

And this small one just seems cool, again either the Maratac or the ITP

Thanks for schooling me!

Is there any more informed opinion or trenchant commentary before I spend some $$?

I know you don't want to spend a lot but I can't recommend the surefire U2A enough. I use it daily a lot for about a year now. The money you save in batteries by being able to select just the right amount of light will pay for this light. I have only used three sets of cells for the last year. I use the light A LOT:thumbup:

Tactical supply gives a great discount on surefire also.

Batteries !!!!

I talked to Malkoff today and he turned me on to Battery Station. He explained that they manufacture Duracell, Surefire, Energizer, etc. CR123 batteries all on the same line and just label them accordingly. They are all USA made and, as such, have not been associated with any of the explosions reported by Surefire. These have only been associated with CR123's made in China.

A box of 50 runs 62.50 or 1.25 per battery.
