OK, friends and flashlight snobs, noobie checking in here for some edumacation. Go easy on me. :o

Before you dispense all your wisdom, some particulars. I really don't want to sink a bunch of money and time into lights. Already do that with knives, don't need two expensive hobbies. So, no drop-ins, customs, or expensive tacti-cool lights. I won't be in the woods at night or need to burn any paper. I don't want to hang around CPF to stay up on this stuff.

I have seen a few that look reasonably priced and would serve my modest needs. Mainly I want one smallish light for the bedstand, will also go in the travel bag to have in a hotel room or on vacation. Maybe another even smaller one for walking the dog around my suburban hood, make sure we don't walk up on a skunk.

This one caught my eye the other day, a Surefire G2 LED.

This one might be better in that role, either the Maratac version or the ITP

And this small one just seems cool, again either the Maratac or the ITP

I'm partial to the G2L myself. Surefire doesn't make many low output lights though. Something from the Fenix lineup shouldn't be too bad.

They've dropped the price on that 9290 at County Comm.

How do I know? I loaded one up in my cart, and my old cart order (unfulfilled) popped up as well. I had one in there from a couple of weeks back, and it rang up $39.

With the "Limited Quantities" listing, it may be time to pull the trigger. Anybody recommending this light?

I like bright, but I also like long runtimes. 12 hour runtime on the G2L sounds great. How'd I miss that? :o

So is that light (80 lumens) low output? I have no feel for output ratings. My frame of reference would be my old-school MagLites. A 3D for around the house, and a 4C (or 5C?) under the front seat of my car.

Good to know, thanks. I did read a long tread on CPF about this light, seemed very positive. I'm sure I could find other things from County Comm to help amortize the shipping cost.

It's probably 2-3 times as bright as you're used to. It's listed as 4 times as bright as a 2D MagLite.

I sometimes feel like I'm running a debit balance on advice given, so this is a payment on my account. This forum amazes me. Where else can you ask advice about knives, ARs, Ford transmissions, fishing, scotch, .500 S&Ws, black gloves, satinizing, dogs, etc.....

The best knives and the best people.

Yea Mon - and run by the best deer hunter of them all - :D Comes easy to him

I'll recommend it - it is a good deal - bought one and gave it to my daughter to carry - really nice for the price but a little metro in looks, but since guy will be carrying it, it won't matter :D:p

Seriously - 190 lumens, single AA Battery - simply a good light for $34

Aww, now I'm all butt-hurt :grumpy: ...wait... scratch that.

You must have me confused with GregS.

The Malkoff is just cool! I already said it I know.

Thanks to Brian and Jeremy, I now have the TK40 Fenix which is really amazing, for something like 155.00 you get 630 lumens on AA batts, which are rechargeables now. In addition to 630 you get a low setting around 18 lumens medium around 100 and high around 270. Very versatile light, powerful and excellent beam pattern.

Thanks to Bear I have , hopefully shipping as of 11/25, two quark minis in-bound, 189 lumens on a single CR123 battery, this thing is the size of my thumb!

Thanks to Trog I have Milky on speed-dial, he will modify my surefire L2 and take it from factory 100 lumens to somewhere between 250 and 700 lumens depending on what I decide !

Thanks to everyone in this thread as the discussions have helped as much as anything.
