Hossom Retribution 1 Folder

Is this a typo? That is the same thickness as the handle on my 22" Ang Khola khukuri.

That 1-1/4" was my estimate just looking at it (I had already put away my scale), but, this morning I took it out to the shop and put the dial calipers to it. At it's widest point, it is 1.092" in thickness (a little short of 1-1/8") sorry to have slightly overstated the thickness, but it is still a very thick knife.

The smaller model is 1.2mm thicker than my Greco frame lock - after you take the handle scales off the Retribution! With the scales on it's 21.5 mm (1 1/16") thick at the center swell.

The sheath is, as described, functional. It holds the knife securely. About 1.5" of the top of the knife is exposed from each side of the snap/flap. It allows vertical or horizontal carry.

Wow, that is really thick, the Temperance for comparison is only 0.8" at the maximum thickness through the grip, even the Busse Fusion grips are less than 0.1" thick.

Mine arrived this morning. Jerry really hit a home run with this thing! It's HUGE. Pics didn't do it justice for me, no point for a clip on it now that I've handled the thing. I do hate the factory sheath though. It's good for utility purposes, but I would like something that provides for a good grip and fast draw, or a compromise in between. Quality, fit\finish, lockup, etc is perfect on mine, as others said, it's a frame lock with scales. It rocks!

I'm amazed the way it makes the Chinook look so small. Jeez.

Also, up till this knife, I'd had sort of mixed feeling about Italian made knives compared with Japanese, American & German.

This folder knocks that concern out of the box!

Heehehehehehehe told ya:eek: :D

Great review and PICS on a knife that I will have some time soon.
Thanks for the pics for comparison size.

I think I'll get the smaller version.

I think Jerry has hit another home run with his collaboration with Ontario.
I look forward to see his fixed from Spyderco.....THAT will be a piece!

Keep the review alive with more impressions as you use this knife in edc.

This one is a little big for edc, so it will only be carried in the woods. There will be no batonning (Mr. Hossom posted about that over on knife forums). But rest assured that I will give it a good workout and report back next time I hit the trees.

I do alot of hiking, camping, etc this time of year. I strapped the factory nylon pouch on my pack, and it works well in that role. It will most likely see normal\moderate uses, no batoning or anything like that since we also pack in the appropriate tools for that work. I'm still looking for a nice leather rig for those times when I feel the need to "go big" in my EDC lineup!

do we have any news on the smallest version of this folder? is it still going to be made? timeframe?

I just got my Retribution 2 in this morning. It is one of the best finished knives I've ever owned. The attention to detail is superb!!!. It too, is big (not as big as it's big brother), but not to big for EDC. This is not a knive for small children!!

It is my understanding that you can't do advertising or plug a place of business on these forums. That said, do a "Google" for Ontario Kvives, Retribution 2 Jerry Hossum and you will come up with several hits. Prices vary, but not much. This knife is going to be a hit as it would be just as comfortable in a soldiers hand as it would be in a hunter/campers hand. The way it's made, it should last a lifetime in either place.
