How about a Buck Spitfire in S90V?

My Extreme Spitfire also has slight up and down play. It doesn't really bother me, but I was a bit surprised that it had any play. My standard orange Spitfire has virtually no vertical play.

Like a lot of mass production, flaws happen, but I think it's for the most part Haile Mary if your not happy send it back.

I'm curious, what does sandwiching S90V between CPM-154 accomplish? I don't know enough about steels to really know any better.

There is no real advantage to having the the S90V sandwiched between the CPM. Some may think it saves $$$ because its less S90V, but the layering process is pretty expensive!
S90V is one of the highest grade steels on the market right now. the sandwiching makes for a really nice looking blade when ground, seeing the difference in the steel colors is aesthetically pleasing to the eye

Has Buck solved the lock up issues that the earlier ones had? Specifically, the up and down movement in the locked position was reported to be pretty bad.

I've noticed it's hit and miss even with the Extreme. Some are tighter and some are not. Personally, it doesn't bother me at all. It stays solid when cutting. You guys are teaching me all the things I didn't know I was supposed to be annoyed with! :D

Exactly. The Spitfire Extreme I just purchased has that same up/down blade play when the blade is locked open as the standard factory ones I have do. I was hoping with the upgraded model the fit might have been tweaked to eliminate that. I do hope that this issue is looked at with this other new premium version of the Spitfire. Ti slabs on that blade steel would be pretty cool as well I think.

This is so frustrating. Tons of kockbacks out there with no blade play. Come on Buck!!!

Re Yelkow Jacket: That used to be the name of Camilus's line of yellow Deleon traditionals. Maybe some trademark issues there?

You are in an excellent position to ask hard questions of Buck on this. The Spitfie could become a long time pattern but they've got to address the blade play and make it go away.

Oh believe you me, I am asking the questions. As a dealer, I'd much rather send out a 100% satisfactory knife. You guys like it, and I like it. Hopefully we can get them there! Thanks for the heads up on the Yellow Jacket!

Just curious if there's been talks with other handle materials like g10, micarta, or Ti for instance. Also, I do hope with your talking to Buck about the up/down blade play they might fix that tolerance issue. Most are just too loose. I know at their price point, for the standard model, and the design itself, many lock backs with have a little up & down play. Not really such a big deal. It's just too much with the Spitfire. Particularly when many Spitfire buyers likely own a 110 as well, which is reasonably priced at the big box stores, and it generally locks up pretty solid when it opens. So your new Spitfire arrives, and your left with a letdown cause it feels cheap in comparison. And I do wish they'd use a different pocket clip so you could swap it out for a deep carry. Use a standard hole pattern. Lol. :)

Anyway, glad to see your continued projects with Buck!

Loving the knife. Love spitfires. Great edc knife. Would rather searrations. Will buy one if its priced right.

Don't mean to sound like a broken record but I would like your effort put to the Vantage instead or the spitfire. Great pocket clip, light weight, good looks, easy to try different scale material one hand open and close. It's to bad Buck had some QC issues with it and disappointed a lot people cause imo I think it's one Hell of a blade.

I've been talking with a 3rd party about making deep carry clips, and possible put them on the site for people to order. To your first question, yes I've asked about other handle materials. The response has been that each different type would have to be engineered and I may have to absorb that cost. I'll continue to look into it. And for your other point, I couldn't agree with you more on talking with Buck. Blade play is a big deal, and happy customers is a HUGE deal to me. Hopefully we'll find some fix down the road because I love the Spitfire platform.
