How annoying is it not to have a knife on you?

I am so freaked out about this and not being able to have a knife on me..I have to travel to London England where a knife is outlawed. Yes ,even a non locking blade under 3". If you are found with a "so called" UK approved knife it is still up to each individual court to determine.

I have been talking to folks at the UK knife forum and it is really sad. I guess I will take the risk and carry a small traditional folder anyway. But I personally know people who have been arrested for that over there and they are paying the courts after 3-4 court hearings. And for one personal friend of mine that was for a carpenters knife in their tool box. Their law and English rule is really different from our system.

Most screwed up country ever.

If it's that stressful for you I'd get one of the little Mantis coin knives to carry. The likelihood of it being noticed is tiny and I believe it would still conform to the basic UK knife laws.

I think perhaps the worst embarrassment a knife enthusiast could experience would be if one of your friends or family members needed something cut, they turn to you, the person they know as "the knife guy", and when they ask you to cut something for them you say you can't because you forgot your knife.

A "knife guy" who doesn't have a knife. Oh the shame of it all. :(

It hasn't happened to me, but I would be embarrassed if it did.

:D

While the sebenza is in Idaho getting a clip point blade installed I'm edcing a ProLite clip point...it's on me every day and it's growing on me. Of course I'll probably sell it when the Seb gets back. But today I did some work at a house with a dog run on one side and the most amazing backyard I've ever seen...the 200 lb Saint Bernard was described as Cujo at home but Beethoven out in public...very territorial. It was maybe 100 feet away and when it noticed I was there it started barking and growling like crazy. I love dogs and would never harm one for any reason but self defense...but I won't lie I felt a little safer knowing that knife was in my pocket just in case.

I found myself without a knife once... Thanks a lot TSA. It was in a checked bag!!!

So I bought a Kershaw Leek at Walmart. I also bought a cheap utility knife a few minutes later, because the Leek was in a bubble pack and I couldn't get it open.

That's a great story hahaha

at first i felt uneasy & annoyed but i'm pretty darn used to it, except when i'm going to places i'm not used to or when i forget to bring one. some places I can't bring blades to are meetings, interviews, vacations (depends on the location), etc.

carrying my crkt k415kxp (ripple) & victorinox classic sd today.

An under 3" penknife, slipjoint, are allowed in the UK. I carry one all the time. Most slipjoints SAKs are fine.
Knives are not banned in the UK, you just need a good strong reason to have one in a public place. If you are in your hunting kit, going or coming back, then you can be wearing a hunting knife. Locking folders are counted as a fixed blade, you just need a good reason. Self defence isn't one. Nor is one for making sandwiches unless in a picnic box. There are plenty of good reasons but don't be cavalier about it, as you don't want it tested by a jury of 12.
Our police are generally unarmed, because they don't have to be. They have armed backup close at hand and vulnerable places do have armed police guards. Like any place there is some crime but you have to be very unlucky, its no wild west.
Come over, you'll have a great time.

Getting to the top of a long ladder and seeing the knife at the bottom.

I always have a knife on me unless I'm at a place where knives are strictly prohibited, like a gov't building, amusement park, airport, sporting event, etc. But I almost never go to those places, anyway. When I have to go knifeless, I don't like it, but I can make do for awhile without getting antsy about it.

I remember once in the late '90s, I decided not to carry a knife one day, just because. At the time, my EDC was a Victorinox Spartan (I still carry one today). I didn't really feel too odd until, coincidentally, the movie I went to see had a character who gives his son an SAK. Then I suddenly wished I had it on me.

It's happened to me a few times.

It's kinda funny how that when you don't have something in your pocket that you normally would, there seems to be many more times in a day when you could really use it...

I found myself reaching for it and coming up with nothing but air.

Ooo yeah, not the best feeling. Makes me feel more vulnerable and less useful... If I forgot my folder, theres probably something else in the car.
What I dislike most is going to places like the airport, events and other places were they prohibit everything.. Rather than simply forgetting, I'm actually being told "NO", sucks but I understand the necessity.
