How brand loyal are you to Spyderco?

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being so loyal that you won't buy a knife unless it has a bug on it, how loyal are you? I guess a one would be not loyal at all. If you were a "1" you probably wouldn't buy another Spyderco unless there was nothing else you wanted more. A "1" is not that you hate Spyderco, it is just that you have no particular loyalty to that brand.

I bring this up only because I am not a very brand loyal person at all. One of the few companies that I am loyal to is Spyderco. My loyalty comes from the outstanding customer service I recieved from them the few times I needed it. I buy a lot of Spydercos so from time to time, there may be a problem. That is true of any brand. The key thing is, how do they treat you when you have a problem?

I am alos very impressed that Sal takes such an interest in these forums and our opinions. I really feel that if I had an issue, he would see to it personally. There are not many companies that you can go to the president and have him speak to you about a problem on a $60 item.

I will buy Spydercos over most other knives even if I feel that I could get a similar item for less. I know I can''t get the same customer service and honesty from just anyone.

So, I would rank myself a 7. That is pretty loyal but not a fanatic! :D :D I will buy other knives but probably not similar knives. If I can't get what I want from Spyderco, I will venture out and get a BM, Al Mar or Seki-Cut but other than my one work knife that is a BM, I use Spydercos and buy Spydercos more than any other.

I am in the 5-6 range. I love my spydies, and there are a few more I want. But it is not the only thing I buy or carry.

Your post is an excellent question. I can't wait to see where this goes.

Interesting question. I for one are not that brand loyal, I buy what I think is best for the purpose, if the item is inexpensive that's ok as long as it does the job,I don't usually try to buy "the best" of anything as money is always an issue.

I just bought two Cara Cara's, and that re-introduced me to the Spyderco line, the last Spider I had, had the old plastic clip that didn't hold very well and I lost the knife. That kind of soured me on them, but the new stuff looks really nice, and am considering a couple Salt series.
So, maybe a 1 or 2, :)

I would have to say a 10 in my case. I have tried to EDC other brands, but the Spidies just felt better and I feel, performed better. Now, I just don't bother with other brands.

I would say an 8. It is very rare for me to buy a folder other than Spyderco. Fixed blades, however are a different story, since Spyderco's offering in that area do not exite me the way their folders do, my tastes in that area run to Loveless style drop points and obscenely large Bowies. There is also one other knife brand I am extremely loyal to, the model builder in me still demands X-Actos, even though no other brand has spilled more of my blood. :D

That pretty much sums it up. Except for the work knife. Right now mine's a Caly 3. :D

I'm right there at 8 on the loyalty scale. I have wandered once or twice but always wind up with a Spydie EDC when the smoke clears:)

Most of my Folders are Spyderco, They are consistently good blades and usually cut well. . . But I am a 1 on any loyalty scale, because I don't go out of my way to buy a Spyderco, it just ends up happening more often than not.

I had to say about a 9. The last umpteen knives that I have bought have been Spyderco models. Every once in a while I will buy a Cold Steel if I need a knife to abuse and beat to death with no remorse.

1. I think I read that Sal has an extensive collection of all types of knives. If he doesn't see the need to limit himself to Spyderco, there is no reason for me to do so.

About an 8 for folders. I won't go as far as 10 because I do own other knives. I usually have an SAK manager on me all the time and I go the custom route for FB's.

I find my self cheating with BMs when it comes to prodo folders, but Spydies ar what I come home to.

And Deacon, try Olfa knives instead of X-Acto (the chuck actually holds the blade in securely..)

Hmm, interesting question and depends on what you mean by brand loyalty. Some people seem to take it to mean they buy only Spyderco. I buy other brand knives and I'm fond of a few Benchmades, but I would consider my brand loyalty an 8 because I am satisfied with every aspect of my Spyderco knives, from quality to cost to service, and Spyderco is the first company I go to to look for knives and i visit their forums at least a couple times a day, and most importantly, if I was to talk to anyone about knives, the first company I would recommend is Spyderco. There is no be all and end all in knife companies, but Spyderco definitely is the leader of the pack for me.

5 Spydies and certain other companies get my business because I respect their people and they have a track record of putting out quality items. I try stay open-minded, though, when the knife gets into my hand.

I'd say I'm a 5. I love the Spydercos I own, but I don't buy based on specific brand. I buy what I like so long as it's made by a reputable company. Spyderco happens to make many knives I like :D

I'd say a 6 or 7 for me. The only production knives in my collection that are keepers are Victorinox, Spyderco and Chris Reeve and I don't really intend to change those choices (although I might be adding a William Henry to the mix).
