How brand loyal are you to Spyderco?

8-9 for folders. the last 10 folders or so have been spydies. i'm especially impressed with CF models. I just think that nothing works as well as a spyderco folder. I even bought my girlfriend one(jester SE)

Fixed blades are another story. The schempp chopper was enticing when 3v was on the table. h1 is not drawing me to the table though. Scrapyard has gotten most of my fixed blade dollars.

The very first knife I bought about year and a half ago was a small Moki folder.
Since then it is Spyderco only. Plenty of Spydercos:D There are too many things that keep me loyal to this company beginning from variety of innovative in-house designs, collaboration with great knife makers, etc.
I also admire owner’s philosophy used to build a profitable employee friendly company with exceptional customer service. I like the way they stand behind their product. I could go on and on.:)
I guess I am getting close to 10.
WhyNot

About a 0.

I try to find the best blend of blade grind, lock mechanism, steel type and appearance, regardless of maker.

That said, I have an more of an intrinsic interest Spyderco's new releases that most other companies, based on past experiences.

I'd say about an 8.

My current EDC isn't a Spyderco (but New Graham is trying to change that by selling me a CF/ZDP Caly 3), but I'll agonize over buying a Benchmade I like and eventually not do it (The whole hole thing from between the old and current "agreement" days and the knowledge that Spyderco's folders will exceed my desires if I'm patient).

Sal makes the knives I want; Sal and Joyce sent a special knife for my daughter; Sal and Joyce sent a 'get well soon' knife to my penpal Craig; Sal either designs the knives I want or gets his son or some other world-class designer (such as Chad Los Banos or Eric Glesser or a ton of other folks who all deserve mention and praise) to do it. Not loving all of that is impossible.

If the Great Spyder Factory of Golden could deliver me from temptation with a G-10 Smallfly, that'd be really nice. ;)

Hi There,

I would say an 8 or 9, sometimes when i see a specific model from another brand i can't resist.
But normally Spydies are top 1.:p

kind regards,

Werner

I'm not loyal to any particular brand, although right now my amassed amount of knives is mainly Spyderco and Benchmade. Spyderco creates a very utilitarian knife, they sometimes use special materials, sometimes you can get one pimped by Santa Fe Stoneworks. For the most part however, the basic Spyderco blade shape is a very utilitarian tool. Not to say that they aren't attractive. I value some of Spydercos products higher than any other companies. Their G10 for example, is the smoothest I have ever handled. The Military is probably the best working folder I have ever owned. The Native III is my constant knife at home, and has been with me through thick and thin. While they are not my favorite, I do like them very much. And no, Benchmade isn't my favorite either.

I would say an 8. I will buy other brands if I get a great deal, buts thats so rare. I find on limited funds at the moment the Spyderco range is all I want in a folding knife.

I do own many other knives of course as well as customs, but I always see if Spyderco has what I want FIRST.

Though I would add, it will be a very cold day in Hell before I ever buy a knife from "the other company" if you catch my drift...:grumpy:

I like Emersons but cant afford them. Microtech forget about it. I'd have to eat cat food for a month and walk everywhere to afford the stuff I want.

Spyderco makes the best for the buck.

I guess I'm about a 6 or 7. It's not necessarily brand loyalty that makes me keep buying Spydies, but the quality of the build and the refreshingly different designs, like the Dodo. I do have a few Benchmades and customs on my "want list," though.

I am probably an 8-9.5

I can justify spending more on a spyderco than another brand because I have quite a few that I have used and none have failed.

I own a few benchmades. One bali, the rest folders. The bali was older and cheap, and I grabbed it because it was a small one. There are a few BM folders that are pleasing aesthetically, but I find that BM blades are ground to a wider angle than I like, and although I can sharpen a knife quite well, I'm too lazy to reprofile.;) especially with the tool steels (I have 2 in D2. the rest are ats-34 or 154CM).

My father used a spyderco to save his life in a minor boating mishap, and the first day I ever worked for pay on a boat, I had his endura SE in my pocket. In those days I hated working on boats, and I wasn't too thrilled with spyderco. both grew on me, to the point that no matter what knife I carry to work (I carry a few) at least 2 are spyderco knives. I just picked up a new military, it's probably the most I'm willing to spend on a single spyderco, especially when i've been getting on fine with the lower end models, and I don't mind buying slightly used knives. I could have gotten a few scratched up FRN spyders for what I paid for the mili..and I got it cheap :D

My main reason for being pretty brand loyal to Sal and crew is the hole. I find it the easiest and most efficient opening method. I've had things I'm cutting catch on thumb studs and discs, I've missed opening the knife with them, and when my hands are wet or cold, the hole is easier to find and use than a small stud or narrow disc.

I've never used the customer service from spyderco. I like the fact that if I ever did (probably won't, if the knife breaks, it probably was misuse on my part :D) get a defective spyder though, that I'll be taken care of.

That said, the newest spyder I'm carrying is the military, and after a minor repair (I've only had it for four days!) and some pretty hard use yesterday, i'm impressed.

I would have to say I am a 6 but quickly rising to a 9.5 for folders.

the first "good" knife I ever bought was a spyderco, and I have had several since, I was seduced for a while by a few differnet companies, but more and more I find myself A spidey man.

For fixed blades the Jury is still out but I am going to get a Day hiker this summer and possibly one other so then Ill have more to go on.

my rating is probably 8 to 9....based on the percentage of knives I own that are Spyderco's or Byrds....
I have a smattering of knives from different companies as well......like Kershaw, Bladetech, Boker, Bark River......as i like variety sometimes ....but all these roads eventually lead back to Spyderco....;)

6-7 for me...

Like most others here, I have other brands in my knife roll.

But other knives I look at inevitably get compared to Spyders in terms of quality, F&F, value, etc. which factor into my decision to purchase them.

Over the years, I've become more "set in my ways" in terms of my attitudes/values/beliefs and I find those manifesting themselves in my lifestyle: practicality being prevalent in what I choose to buy/use/wear/etc. (Guess its a symptom of getting older...) :o

So when it comes to knives, I'm constantly thinking "What can this knife do in the real world? Can I EDC this?".. and naturally spydercos always fit the bill better than the rest. Plus the values of Sal and the company- how Spyderco conducts itself as a company- make me feel positive about carrying one.

Of course, the irony is I have about 10-15 "practical" knives which sit in the drawer cause they dont get any carry time.

9---Except in rainy, wet or damp conditions, I will carry my Mission MPF. OR, if I FB it, that knife is a Leu kozuka but my P- Mil. is still in my pocket. Otherwise---It's ALL Spyderco.

8-9 for folders I'd say (Spyderco doesn't have as many choices in fixed blades as I would like, sometimes I buy some CS, some Ka-Bar, some kershaw etc).

I only get folders from other companies if Spyderco doesn't have anything remotely similar (mainly tactical folders or knives like the CS ti-lite).

From what I've seen, Spydie lovers are among one of the most loyal and dedicated to the brand.
