How close to rubbing the liner is acceptable?

Evening all,


I have horrendous centering on my military 2, I'm not a noob, I've done everything possible to correct it and it will not center. It's a literally almost rubbing the liner. So I sent it in to spyderco after a phone call, they said a little off center is within spec but they'd take a look at it. Well I got it back a few minutes ago and apparently "a little off" is almost rubbing the liner. They didn't do anything, the knife is exactly how it was when I sent it in.

Is this acceptable? It literally can not be worse. Feels like I sent it in for no reason and just wasted nearly a month of time.20260717_170336.jpg20260717_171213.jpg

I was sooo excited to get this back, tore the package open and looked at the centering and read the paper and literally said out loud wtf.

I love the knife, and bought my sons matching crucarta pm3/pm2 so we all have the brown micarta scales, and this genuinely sours me.

I don't think refund possible, I should have returned it immediately instead of thinking I could fix it. I usually can fix off center blades, but this one the blade must be ground poorly or something because it can not be centered. I tried to ignore it as long as I could but my ocd won out and I sent it in.

I'm astonished as well. Not sure if I call them back? Send it in again and wait for 3 or 4 weeks again, or if they truly think this is acceptable there is no point in sending it in for no reason.

Imo Spyderco is simply fantastic. Just because someone passed it along as ‘within standards’ does not mean that another person would dismiss it as such. I find it very hard to imagine that the company is okay with that knife. I think if Sal sees this, he will reach out to you.

Spyderco has grown on me over the years, I think they do a great job of producing knives with geometry that actually cuts. Most my family has been gifted some variety of spyderco for a long time now. I don't know what I was expecting, maybe a diagnosis of slightly out of spec liner and they replaced it, or wonky blade grind and they swapped the blade on it, something.

But getting the knife back with it almost rubbing and that letter irks me. Even if they said it's an out of spec liner or blade, and we'll swap it if you pay for, I would have paid them for it. (Though idk why anyone should have to pay to fix something that is a manufacturing defect) I don't know how to escalate it with them or if they actually just felt nothing was out of spec (which would shock me).

I'm genuinely not here to fling poo, I just wanted to know is this what is acceptable to them because that's what they told me and what they did and it doesn't seem right.
 
im not real picky on centering, long as it doesnt rub liner......but that one is extreme. if thats within tolerances, it kinda worries me what else will be produced that is extreme and way off and still fall within tolerances.

this doesnt seem like normal spyderco quality to me. I think ya should reach out again and give them another try.......
