How did you discover Busse?

blade forums. I thought, i will just go with the mainstay. I purchased a cgfbm. Dont need infi for smaller blades.....Iknow, I know. that thinking didnt last long. Picked up a tglb also. And then, I met Mike at the columbus ohio gun show.

Field and streams 20 best knives ever made had the Busse Battle Mistress listed, I went over to the Busse website, and then spent about a decade drooling over a Busse Ashbm le. I saved up enough back just out of college to purchase a Busse ash2 that was at a good price, and finally last year after starting a new job, was able to buy my first Ashbm 20th anniversary in black crinkle and g10. It's been on almost all woods trips with me since. Had it on my annual birthday camping trip with my sister where she sliced her arm open splitting firewood and we had to rush back to the hospital, and used it to fuel a fire to keep my and a coworker warm all night when our weekend camping trip took a turn and we had to sleep next to the campfire in the rain. It rides in buy brown pants and has never let me down. It's missing a lot more of the coating haha.

First time I saw them I thought to myself - "Now those are impractical" and then went back to the traditional area. The more I saw them from frequenting this forum... the more I convinced myself that I "needed" one. Now I have a couple dozen. I am into impractical things. 😬

x2 I found a RMD LE for 180 and said damn I'll never need another Busse kin knife again. I didn't realize what I was getting into.

The destruction tests from others, then performing my own. I can swear by a Busse, not at it.

I started with FBMLE #4 (the only factory bruiser LE back then) and still have her. I chopped a truck, 55 gallon barrels, cinder blocks & every kind of wood with her and she proved the toughness & reliability of INFI. So I cleaned her up and found her a skinny CGFBM sister that I stripped my way and then put super magnum bruiser scales on. These ladies are an awesome pair!

I have chopped up an entire 800 LB Tibetan Yak, a donkey, and several deer with this Butaniku. It is ready to take on all meatsuit challenges.

I have chopped down trees and stabbed through car hoods with my Gladius and it is good to go too. It just needs a longer grip for me.

You just cannot go wrong with a Busse.

I ordered a Basic 5 off an ad in Blade Magazine in 1998, iirc. When it arrived I remember saying to myself, “That’s a perfect knife.”

This old thread made me pull that knife out today for the first time in quite awhile. I’m glad I did.

I was right.

Working in our family owned Gun and Archery shop in 2003. This guy walks in and we start talking. Seems like a nice enough guy. He buys some ammo and takes off. Next day he's back. We do some more talking and turns out he makes knives. Cool, I have always loved knives. He becomes a regular face at the store. A friendship is born. We start hanging out more, he is an awesome guy. Fast forward a year or so, we get an offer to sell our shop and we accept it. This guy hears about it and stops in to ask me what I will be doing once the store is gone. I have no idea, not in a huge rush. "Why don't we see if you can make knives" he says. Yeah, that could be cool so I meet him at his shop. Well what he calls a shop I call a small factory. No idea it was this big of a thing.

Fast forward 20 some years and here I am. The shop is bigger now, more faces and more knives. Coolest job ever and got a lifelong best friend out of the deal. Getting to make awesome blades everyday and interact with some of the coolest people on the planet. It has been a hell of a ride so far with no end to the fun in sight. Somehow I ended up being a halfway decent knife-maker along the way. Getting to work side by side with a master helps out.

There was a Busse table at a local gun show. I was thinking I first bought a couple of Ergo models but it was a Satin Jack. It was the most I'd ever spent on a knife at the time. Bought some others at later gun shows then became friends with the guy running the table. After that I got caught up in the whole Busse family. Went to Knob Creek, Blade show and all that. Got busy with life and drifted away a bit. Still have a ton of Busse and Swamp Rat knives though. Too many plates in the air now a days. I only logged back into BF days ago because I was using my Steel Heart and thought I'd see what was going on here.

The mid 90's was a time of magazines and shows. It was the only way to learn anything. The tactical knives article on the Busse steel heart in 1996 was the first intro for me, but What had me clinched was me having personal discussions in 1997 with Chris Janowski, a survivalist in Alaska. He had survival class training and had an excellent reputation. This was before INFI had been released. So his experience was with Busse A2. He told me he stressed that SH out much further than any other blade he had and nothing else would have survived what he did. Good guy, RIP

I had mostly been into folders. I had one up for sale & brother DennisM DennisM inquired if I was up for any trades & presented a list. Busse was on the list. I expressed interest & he obliged….

A pic of the SR Tanto appeared…

I thought… “Yep, I like that.”

I inquire if he’s got more he’d let go of… and he offers up this one:

I thought, “I don’t need that… but, I sure want it!”
And, those two were the beginning…

Thank you, Dennis!

Nuker Nuker - please remember me in your will. Nuker Nuker 's significant other ... it wasn't my fault ... really it wasn't. 😉

Jerry Busse Jerry Busse - you're welcome. 👊🏼 Do I get a "bird dog" for increasing Busse stock prices on DJI from Evan's massive collection? 😂
