How did you discover Busse?

I had about 40 Spydercos at the end of 2000 and decided to start looking for a fixed blade. I discovered BF, registered, started searching and found some posts with links to Cliff Stamp's reviews........I need to get a Busse. :D

I missed out on the last 7 LMS out of the shop but got an offer from someone with connections to Wauseon. I had a new LMS w/ On/Scene sheath by the end of Feb. In May I was looking at the new 6" (Satin Jack) and folder. Never got a SJ :( or the FOLDER. Five months after I had started, I had added a AS, PH & B9. The INFIction was setting in.

Then I went to Blade.............................................:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Hi. My name is Drew, and I am an INFIholic. 👍

Funny how you remember the paths to such a significant brand of tool. I don't remember when I first got into any other brands. But I remember how I got into Busse.

I remember what lead me to Busse and Benchmade... because they were the top picks in the same 1996 American Survival Guide article. Busse SHSH II for fixed blade, and Benchmade AFCK for folders. In fact, it was this very same article:

The mid 90's was a time of magazines and shows. It was the only way to learn anything. The tactical knives article on the Busse steel heart in 1996 was the first intro for me, but What had me clinched was me having personal discussions in 1997 with Chris Janowski, a survivalist in Alaska. He had survival class training and had an excellent reputation. This was before INFI had been released. So his experience was with Busse A2. He told me he stressed that SH out much further than any other blade he had and nothing else would have survived what he did. Good guy, RIP

I got the AFCK shortly after reading Chris Janowski's article, and then after another article came out about Busse's new "Battle Mistress" made of "INFI steel" I went all in on Busse with a SHBM, SHSH II, and SHBA.

So 26-28” overall but what’s that handle length ??
I hope 10” handle

I remember talking to him multiple times after the article got published. He loved to talk to anyone with an interest in survival and blades. We had a few conversations that lasted almost 90 minutes. He would tell me Alaska stories. He told me, that the reason he purchased the Busse SH in A2(no INFI back then) was that he had heard it had been cryod to beyond minus 320 and he has had a few big knives that failed on minus 70 degree days. And he believed it was the temperature. So he figured a knife that had been taken down to lower temps, would likely not fail, and he claims he was right as that Busse never failed him. He claimed to have talk to Jerry about this at the time, when he ordered the knife. Unfortunately he passed away, many years ago. I tried reaching out to him and someone else answered and told me he had passed away. RIP Chris

Man , Ron was the Dude. I had every video on my hard drive until a Hacker demanded money or else and I told him to GFH and he quickly deleted all my videos and music. I needed a backup 🙁
Once I offered to download all the videos to anyone on this forum for free if they sent me a flash drive, but only got one response and they never sent it.so no backup.

Been a while Brother. Nice to see you. Hope all is well.

This will be a thread dedicated to how we all found the greatest knife company on earth!:D

Here’s my story:
I was enthralled with Daryl’s knife from the first episode he appeared in. Finally, after the episode in S2 called “Chupacabra” I said to myself “Alright, that’s it. I HAVE to get one of these”. So, I did some searching around, and eventually found that it was made by someone called “Busse” and it was called a “Team Gemini”.

I went to Busse’s site, found that nothing was for sale, and, like a lot of folks, thought “Huh, they must have gone out of business!” I did a little more searching and found Bladeforums, which led me to this subforum. I made an account, and created a thread titled “What happened to Busse?”

The rest is history. Let’s hear yours!
That's exactly my story too ! W.D ..D Dixon.

TGULB ....looks custom .... expensive...DROOL .. Must have, must !!

Found the swamp rat site....pretty dead... couldn't make it do anything....thought Busse must be a small custom operation....looked around for second hand. Sadly gave up.

Then...eBay success! Rats bought, and then blade forums used, to find out what I'd bought? Wasn't even sure they were Busse Kin?

Mega Ratweiler and SR rodent 6 custom shop, is what I'd scored! Then got the full name... Busse Combat Knives ...from blade forums. Success! Found website, But no TGULB for sale :-(

More Aussie eBay Busse knives bought. HOGdom awarded today! OZHOG ...

AND, TGULB just been re-released! Saving hard now for deposit!

😁👍🇦🇺

For me it was this scene of TWD that got me interested. My first thought was "That is one badass looking knife. I wonder if it's a real knife yoi can buy or just a movie prop.". Off to Google I went.View attachment 978092 Then I saw that the TGLB was pretty close to what he was carrying but when I saw what they cost and I was like "Pffffft! No way I'm spending that much for a knife!". Then I saw a Noss video where he pretty much wore himself out trying to break a Busse......and now I have a bunch of Busse's. Lol!
Me too! "I bet that's a low volume custom knife, it's soooo cool, I want one! " Probably all of about 2 seconds of thought that was ...and now I have over ten Busse Kin..and HOG status too....lol ! Still saving for a TGULB tho .... :-/

It all started with "I need a good camp knife".

The search for "good" turned into "best"... turned into "indestructible"

Busse Combat was overwhelmingly the top result. That's where the hunt began. There was nothing available on the Busse website, which lead me to the Busse community on Blade Forums. Next thing you know, I had bought 3 off the sales forum, before I had every received my first one.

Little did I know it would be the beginning of the slippery slope known as "F5, F5, F5, F5, F5...."
:p 😀

Many years ago I saw review of SHBM by Cliff Stamp. This article blew me out and I wanted to try some Busse really badly. Well, it took some years until the dream came true.
During this time I’ve sold all my Fallknivens, BRKTs and other knives and my keepers are only BUSSE blades and few custom knives made by my friend and one of the very true blade smiths in my country.
The only shame is, that I still miss some SHBM or ASHBM in my small collection ;) But I’m working on it... :D

Field and streams 20 best knives ever made had the Busse Battle Mistress listed, I went over to the Busse website, and then spent about a decade drooling over a Busse Ashbm le. I saved up enough back just out of college to purchase a Busse ash2 that was at a good price, and finally last year after starting a new job, was able to buy my first Ashbm 20th anniversary in black crinkle and g10. It's been on almost all woods trips with me since. Had it on my annual birthday camping trip with my sister where she sliced her arm open splitting firewood and we had to rush back to the hospital, and used it to fuel a fire to keep my and a coworker warm all night when our weekend camping trip took a turn and we had to sleep next to the campfire in the rain. It rides in buy brown pants and has never let me down. It's missing a lot more of the coating haha.
Pants? Does he make "knife" pants? V intrigued ... 😁👍🇦🇺

After you shared your Hogdom application email with me, I can see why you were inducted.

It’s not all about how much INFI you have. You’ve got the heart & passion… and are full of the good Hog camaraderie.🤘🏼 The Hog spirit.

You’re establishing your collection… and there’s plenty of time for your infection to take care the rest😆🍻

Lol..thank you!

Ummm....yes....moving heaven and earth (literally : construction industry) to get TGULB $.

Then, a large chopper. I just missed an AFBM Infi down here ...$800 I didn't have :-( (that $800 just spent on motorcycle servicing ) ....

A TacSaw 7 black / tan would be brilliant when out in the fields walking our Rottweiler 👍

A beating heart, satin / black red G10, for Xmas.....and so on ....

Yep, I'm INFIcted ...lol !

OZHOG

(Thanks for kind words / camaraderie. I've always been the "morale" officer in my units and teams. And Capt BBQ too...lol!)
