How did you get started?

My first group shot :) :

what's that top one called? a three finger?

I discovered Busse through Swamp Rat. I was reading Blade magazine and saw an ad for Swamp Rat knives. It was for the Rat Tail and it looked interesting. I got a couple other Swamp Rat knives, but I decided to try Busse. My first Busse was a Meaner Street from the company store. I have enjoyed interacting with the Hogs and Rats over the years.
I still have most of my Busse and Swamp Rat knives.

I remember seeing a Busse ad in a magazine a looong time ago. I'm a knife guy to the core but I remember thinking "Who the hell pays that much for a knife?" I wish we could get those prices now! Fast forward several years and I've recently bought my first Busse - it was a CG SJTAC with a Buy Brown sheath purchased from the BF Exchange from Mere Mortal - Paul B. ROCKS! After I popped my cherry on that, my next purchase was directly from Eric during the Ratganza Pre-Order - it was for a RatManDu and a Swamp Warden. When I laid my eyes on pictures of the Killa Zilla II, it was love at first sight. My next Busse was from the Company Store for my own Killa Zilla II. My latest Bussekin purchase was for another RatManDu directly from Eric. Lord have mercy because each purchase leads to me adding more Bussekins on my wish list instead of scratching ones off!

Discovered the internet late in life.

Remembered the Busse Steel Heart knife that I always wanted that was advertised in the back of Soldier of Fortune magazine.

Searched Busse Combat knives and found this forum.

Finally bought that first FSH from Garth at Knob Creek.

Surfing the web and found this site. Never heard of Busse until I came here.

Saw an ASH for sale and immediately fell in love...lol.

Couldn't afford that, so I bought a RatManDu, which I am happy with.

Always been interest in preparedness and tools, so this is a great place for me.

I guess I should chime in. I love the outdoors and do quite a bit of backpacking and camping and for what ever reason I never had a really good fixed blade knife. So I went on the search for a "survival" knife. Every search I did talked about Jerry Busse and his amazing INFI. One of the searches pulled up Blade Forums and so I joined, since it was free. Then I found this forum and the rest is history.:D

i found out about busse knives through knifetests.com. after watching the abuse the busses took, i was sold. got my 1st on bladeforums from dan the man: a custom shop HOGFSH. the 2nd was a SAR4 LE from thatMguy. 3rd was a custom shop AD w/box elder scales from dan. 4th & 5th (bought together) were a nuc HELLRAZOR and an ag russell BS variant w/black/tan scales and blue liners from (you guessed it) dan. currently, i'm scheming on how to get my paws on my next one!!!

I got started about five years ago. I was really into folding knives and was browsing the forum when I saw a muddy Rattweiler and fell in love. I little research on the Rat Chat forum and a few great reviews elsewhere and that was it. I have a modest collection of 3 Rats and a Hog but they are all users.

I was looking for a large fixed-blade knife for camping and had read great things about the Swamp Rat Camp Tramp. I ordered one and really liked it. I learned about Busse from the Swamp Rat website. Years later (and after finding BladeForums) I decided to try the current Busse offering at the time, the Skinny ASH. Loved it, and immediately bought an ASH-1, then a Battle Mistress, Game Warden, BAD, Culti, SAR5, SARSquatch, Meaner, Sus Scrofa, and lately, a CABS.

What happened? Why do I need all these knives?! I was originally shopping for one camp knife! :)

Stay sharp,

I bought my first Busse-kin knife (a scrapper5) from Messer454 because I just loved the look of the knife and heard so many good things about the resiprene-c handle. As soon as I got it I made a sheath for it and sold my RAT RC-4. I've since tried out a few Busse's, Swamp Rats and Scrap yards. Basically settling for the time being on the Scrapper5, Swamp Warden and Busse BWM. All 3 keepers in the realest sense.

Well, I was in the market for a fixed blade. So I started snooping around. Saw there was a NorCal chop of with Ban, Mr. Pink and a few other guys. And it just went on from there.

From a prior thread.
Great giveaway idea!
My “path to Busse”!

Having grown up with the Boy Scouts of America and having cultivated a general love of outdoors, it would seem natural to have gravitated towards Busse knives. However, sometime just before college (10 years ago), I became engrossed in urban living. I became stuck in the bump and grind of everyday life until a revelation shook me loose in early 2009. I saw my life ending one minute at a time, in a job that I hated. First, I told the State of California to take their golden hand cuffs and my new promotion and “SHOVE IT WHERE THE SUN DON’T SHINE”. Then I returned to a local university this fall to earn a degree in a different field. This next degree is in Environmental Science. I knew I needed to be outside and in the wild, and fulfill some responsibility to nature.

Having more “Free time” meant I could start backpacking again. I did a smidgen of research and picked up some gear at REI, then hit the trail. A trip to Desolation and one to Point Reyes left me content, but with a tingle on the back of my neck that something was still amiss. I hit the Backpacker Magazine forums to start sharing and learning. I found them to be a generally unpleasant group to interact with. So, I occasionally lurked to see if I could still glean something. One day someone posted a thread called “Ultra Heavy Backpacking” scoffing at a video someone made of their backpacking gear. The videographer was Nutnfancy, and he had several knives in the video. I watched the whole thing and actually listened to the guy with an open mind. I enjoyed some of what he had to say. I poked around and found he had done some knife reviews of rather large knives for outdoor use and wood processing. Having only a Leatherman, Gerber Gator, and a Benchmade Griptilian, I was a bit out of the Knife-World.

I couldn’t stop watching these videos though! I knew I had been waiting for this perfect marriage of collecting useful things! Having always collected something since I was a child, Cameras, Comics, Books, and even Light-bulbs at one point. I knew I had found something else to collect AND mate to my renewed passion in outdoor activities. I couldn’t get enough knife reviews and Batoning videos. Soon, my knife collection grew from 3 folders to almost 30 knives of all shapes and sizes: Cold Steel, SOG, Ontario, and more all began coming in the mail, (Mostly fixed blades) much to my girlfriends dismay. My outdoor activities had been missing good BLADES.

Then, back in September I was watching a new Nutnfancy video and had started reading some of the comments (not something I recommend), one of which mentioned something called a Busse FFBM as a superior knife and linked to Knifetests. I checked it out, and noted there were over 100 minutes of someone beating the $h1t out of this knife. I had to know more. Having recently heard bout Bladeforums from yet another Youtube user as a great site to trade on, I created a profile and started virtual page turning. Only minutes in I noted Busse had their own Sub-Forum and started reading. The people here were kind, intelligent, unusual and generally pleasant. It felt like I had found a good place to settle down, a place where I could continue learning and enjoy myself AS myself.

I decided on the first three Busses I would buy in short time. First I wanted an SFNO for the single blade outdoor use and entry to Busse world. I figured I would start small. LOL. I soon found the perfect one on the Exchange and after much nervous anticipation I picked it up (Thanks Houndstooth). Incredible knife, and hard to put down. It feels like it was made for MY hand. Second and Third: I am now getting ready to buy a chopper and a sub 4 inch for my outdoors duo. Probably a BWM and a GW. The rest, as they say, is history. I haven’t been back to the Backpacker Magazine forums. I stick to the Busse sub-forums, W&SS sub-forums, and a few others now. I appreciate this opportunity to explore and share my story. It feels good to grow. No Regrets.

I had a Basic 7 several years ago. Then bought a Game Warden, then NMSFNO, SAR..... Basic 11. One leads to more, that is all I can say!

I was looking at Busse's on zknives and I subsequently came over here from knifeforums to get a better grip on what struck me. I have a lot of my kitchen knives custom made for me so I'm currently running with that attitude and waiting on my first Busse right now from the custom shop.

.

Well unless you only eat one thing you need to cut all kinds of stuff. So lets start with chopping things like onions, spinach, vegs ....

Then we need to slice some flesh from land and sea.

Then how about dissecting fruits (the ones from trees, not republican senators)
