How did you get started?

I began looking for a good BOB knife, which somehow led me to Cold Steel. After reading up on that site, I then joined BladeForums and quickly discovered the other side of the story. Passing on CS, I bought a few custom folders and small fixed blades from various makers. Soon after, I got back to looking for BOB fixed blades and bigger chopper style knives, but the original "how" was that I Googled "strop" back in early 2006...and found the Busse website (actually the BCS site...which was unfortunately out of Air Bleeder strops). Lurked in the Busse forum and did some research on the steel and read old threads...Bid & won an auction for a Busse ARK, was completely impressed with it and then bought a few Game Wardens, a 3 finger, & a Mole Jack on the X... Then I ordered some CG FBM's...Then some FBMLE's...Then a bunch of Game Wardens, BATAC's, etc., etc., etc... :D 4 years later, here I still am!

My first group shot :) :

Bought my first Rat from you, or Mike, or 360 Joules, or somebody. I can't remember their name. That was around 2005.

My first impressions were "What a bunch of losers. They don't even sell sheaths with their knives. I'll have fun tearing these up and go back to Cold Steel." :D

I wound up tearing down an old shed with the Camp Tramp and selling the Cold Steel Recon Scout w/o using it b/c use would devalue the knife so much. Haven't torn up the first one yet.:D:thumbup:

I'd seen them in ASG, and ads in other mags over the years.

It was the ASG article by Chris Janowski that most piqued my interest, with his laundry list of requirements for fixed (and folder) blades, and that I figured those would far exceed any of my expected uses.

Started looking more, but still couldn't pull the trigger.

In early 2000, ran into Dave Roberson, who was the Busse Sales Manager at the time, at a show in southeast Ohio. Had a table with the original line, and about 8-10 Mean Street "apprentice" blades.

There was one that was cord wrapped, and still had its front talon hole intact, so I figured for a hundo, and it is the "one off" of the rest of the apprentice blades, I'd snag it.

Then snagged a SHII, and it has been a wild (understatement for sure) ride since.

Would have never thought I was getting so much more than steel and micarta... ;)

I blame Porkerson!!! :grumpy:
That's "The Bully" aka Eric, the OP of this thread for those who don't know. ;)

It was early in 2006, I was looking for a tough, dependable camp blade and in my searches, I ran across an archived BF post by Eric describing the wonders of INFI... searched more, lurked a while, then dove into the trough. Haven't been able to (or wanted to ;) ) climb out ever since. :D

The first blade I bought was a tan/tan SJTAC from Motionman2... sent the MO, agonized over the wait. I just couldn't handle it and decided I needed an EDC too. So along comes Skunk (aka Stinky) flashing his GWs around... and had to have one of those! So... my first bought (SJTAC), was not my first Busse... the first chunk of INFI I held was a DC/Black canvas GW from Stinky.

Garth has given her a satin finish and some red liners since then...

But, I really do blame Porkerson... If It weren't for him and his INFI praise, my bank roll would be much, MUCH fatter! :o

Tapping the brain on this one.

I want to say it was an ad in Blade Magazine sometime in the mid to late 90s. I managed to contain myself awhile but when the CGFBM was released I was doomed.

No Regrets!! :D:thumbup:

I started with the gateway drug... erm a brand called Swamp Rat Knives. My first was a Bog Dog. This was back when the hogs and rats would be posting on the others forum. Harmless posts such as nuclear mushroom clouds, slaughtered hogs, dead rats, and etc... Good fun til we had to stop.

From the Bog Dog I got a Battle Rat, then I slipped to the dark side and bought INFI. An Ergo Steel Heart I think. Never been the same since. :D

lol@ busse being a gateway drug! I was reading reviews on a Tom Brown Tracker 2, at the time quite new to the world of cutlery, and read a post on a random forum, "forget tops, for the amount of money that knife cost, you might as well get a busse." After some quick googling, and a few hours trolling busse forums, i was sold, and in the minutes that followed, purchased my tank buster =].

M67 (my son) got me addicted to INFI. A week after a rather expesive purchase on what I thought was the ultimate survival knife (a Chris Reeve Green Beret that I paid $300 for), he proceeded to show me knifetest.com and the poor score that it received and that 2 knives from Busse Combat (which I had never heard of) had outscored all other knives by a rather wide margin.

A few months later we stumbled upon Mikes booth at the Indy 1500 (see post #21) in Sept. 09', we decided to take the plunge, a Skinny ASH for myself and an NMSFNO for him. After he torture tested his NMSFNO, we were amazed at the durability and edge holding ability and have been hooked ever since.

Since that fatefull day we have now acquired and/or sold more than a dozen pieces including several LE models. It is truly a sickness.

Appropriate that this be my 1000 post.

My interest started at Blade back in '03 or '04. I was looking for a new camp knife and saw the Swamp Rat table but couldn't get near the damn thing – the crowd was too thick even back then. The knifes looked pretty basic but tough - exactly what I needed. Went home and poked around for a while and was taken back by the high price. I mean come on, who really spends $138 on a rubber handled knife?

Did some more research and had some extra cash so I pulled the trigger on my first Camp Tramp. HOLY CRAP (sorry Bully, couldn't resist) what a blade. Quite a few more rats before I finally decide to buy a Busse. Got what I believe was the last ZTNO that Skunk had for sale. Promptly sent off for a custom Leatherman sheath.

I came for the knives and stayed for the people. Thanks to Eric and all of the others over the years that have become great friends.

I was looking for info on an ESEE RC6 and found this forum. I started sniffing around and found this Busse sub forum. I saw that Busse's knives, while more than ample a blade for any task my prairie living butt would need, were AWESOME looking compared to the utilitarian, functional, RC6.

I saw a user's picture of his hammering a DSF through a log with the thick blade bending somewhat, then straightening afterwards and was sold.

Bought a DSF within a month. Now all I want/don't need/will probably never use are a Satin Boss Jack, Anorexic Boss Street or AD, and I'm saving up to have the custom shop make me a BlueGrass Bowie since I've only seen a small picture of one once, and would rather have one of them over a Randall Made confederate bowie.

Been hearing about Busse for years.
Been lurking/occasionally posting for months.
Got my first infi today. (OK, modified INFI - but still)
A basic 3 in VG/Excellent condition off a paintball forum my BiL frequents.

I used to think 100 dollars was a lot to spend on a knife. For some reason I dont blink at 400 these days...

I had lusted after the BWM as soon as it was released. I was nowhere near being able to afford it. Along came the santaganzaa. I thought about trying for a knife but then decided to play it safe with the 175.00 shop credit. I scored and called Amy and ordered my BWM. I have since traded this knife and it is the only knife I regret getting rid of.

I think the first time I heard anything about Busse knives was from a Shomer-Tec catalog, and then one of Ron Hoods' tapes. My first Bussekin blade was the BattleRat, followed by the Camp Tramp and Howling Rat.
The madness continues.........:eek::D:D

We were just two crazy kids and she caught my eye in the parking lot of Whataburger. I knew then it was kismet. Worlds collided, angels sang, and before I knew it, we were in the back seat of my dad's Oldsmobile and...

I knew you were really from GA with Poorguy and Slugman.

I was looking for a survival knife for my BOB and eventally found knifetests.com.

I thought the FFBM would be too big for my bag so I was looking at the skinny Ash since it tested high also. Then I found the company store, and at that time they had the NMSFNO and I knew what knife I was looking for. But before getting a $300+ knife I wanted to handle and fondle it. But I thoght I never would since all I was was Busse going to Knob Creek and Atlanta for Blade.

But at the Indy 1500 my dad and I were walking around and out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw a satin MOAB, then got to looking, and it was the Busse table!

So, my first Busse was a NMSFNO with a tanker grey blade and black micarta scales with ribbing that I got from Mike (thatmguy). Now it's stripped and the scales smoothed, my how it's changed. That was in September? 2009.

*snip* - October show had the satin MOAB, show before that would've been August, so I'm betting that you bought your first at the October show. I remember seeing you there.

I was looking for a good sturdy knife for my son that was going to be joining the Marine Corps. I checked out Scrapyard/Busse/SwampRat. I ended up ordering the Scrapper 5 LE for MYSELF. I did eventually buy him a CG Scrapper 5 after his training. My first Busse came from the Indy 1500 show in Oct 2009. It was a Bama clay NMFBM. Since then I have acquired 2 SAR3s, 2 Chopweilers, 1 HRLM, 1 Ratmandu, and 1 NMSFNO. So often the question is asked "Why Busse?". My answer: Hold a Busse in one hand and a competitors knife in the other hand. The answer will be obvious.

I remember seeing you there as well at the October '09 1500.

Never underestimate the OCTOBER INFI (INDY) 1500!!!

Apparently, all three of us bought our first Busse blades at the 2009 October Indy 1500.... Mine was a sage/tan canvas Sarsquatch I bought from thathamguy and flatlander (Mike and Bob) after some serious thought/persuasion I should've just bought the second one I was considering then, but I couldn't bring myself to spend more than $300 on a knife (at the time) with my one-week old son at home. Now, my collection has expanded in a year's time to add one Yardkeeper, a BWM, two ASH-1's, two HC's, two SAR-3's, and a Waki. And that's not including all of the other knives I've bought, that's just the Busse/bussekin blades!

I've found that the only thing better than the Busses/kin blades themselves, are the people involved with them, from Jerry to all of the great people you meet in person at shows and online here on the forums. I've made many friends with Busse knives being the common thread, and it's been one hell of a great ride so far!

The Swamp was my gateway drug:D I was looking into big bad blades and I read about the mistresses and the Battle Rat. I read about them here and on the other forums, as well as a few of the original articles on the BM and SHs. I thought I'd try the BR because it was cheaper (little did I know how much it would cost me over time:o). I fell in love! Got me a sating Jack, a camp tramp, an ABA, and a SJ in a few weeks, and it was all downhill from there. :D

The BR is still one of my favorite blades ever. The SJTAC was my first Busse and I was more than hooked. With quite a few blades in the family now, those two are in my all time top five favorites still:cool:

I had about 40 Spydercos at the end of 2000 and decided to start looking for a fixed blade. I discovered BF, registered, started searching and found some posts with links to Cliff Stamp's reviews........I needed to get a Busse. :D

Then I saw this post. I missed out on the last 7 LMS out of the shop but got a offer from someone with connections to Wauseon. I had a new LMS w/ On/Scene sheath by the end of Feb. 2001. In May I was looking at the new 6" (Satin Jack) and folder. Never got a SJ :( or the FOLDER. Five months after I had started, I had added a AS, PH & B9. The INFIction was setting in.

Then I went to Blade.............................................

Hi. My name is Drew, and I am an INFIholic.
