How did you quit smoking?

I just put in an order for 120ml of 3mg tobacco flavor juice. After that's over, I hope to be (finally) done.

Matt, don't let ANYBODY make you feel guilty for vaping. It IS safer than smoking. It's hard to break the addiction to nicotine. Since you're not smoking you will start to feel the benefits immediately. Due to not taking in all those tar saturated pollutants. Take as long as you need to quit the vape. Your body will tell you when it's ready. Way to go buddy. I'm proud of you.

I'm on e-cigs as well. I use 12mg nicotine capsules with my "Smoke Stik". I'm planning to go down to 8 mg and then nicotine free for a while until I quit alltogether.
I'm pretty sure anythi g you put in your lungs other than clean air is bad for you but it also doesn't take a genious to figure out vaping a mixture of nicotine and water is less dangerous than inhaling the residu of something that's on fire.

A good way to see what goes into your lungs is to take a hit and, without inhaling, blow it through a white tissue. Cigarettes will leave a nasty stain. Vapor from e-cigs will be stain free.

^^^Nice Provari! I guess this is not toooo far off topic - what do you like from 5 pawns? I like Black Flag Fallen, Gambit, and Castle Long quite a bit. They're expensive, but worth it, especially to give up cigarettes. I'm on 6mg nic myself, started with 12mg. Moving down to 3mg in a week or so...

Thanks! I vape Castle Long and one other (I can't remember the names - one is bourbon based, the other has banana). Five Pawns is worth the extra $$$.

I was a heavy smoker for 37 years. Used to light a cigarette as soon as my feet touched the floor every morning. Had pnemonia last year which resulted in five days in a medically induced coma and a few weeks wearing an oxygen mask. Haven't smoked since then. Wearing an oxygen mask sure gives a person the incentive to quit smoking!

I can imagine.

I was given some atomizers, but they are E Cig brand, which im told is a pale comparison to a legit vaporizer.

Ive tried Blu, and they were dumb. Then i tried my buddy's high end unit, and it was actually a close imitation of the real thing. Satisfying and filling, if that makes sense.

Are the E cigs worth trying? Apologies if this has been covered already, but im pressed for time ATM, and havent been back to the thread in some time.

Thx.

PS: Way to go Charlie Mike !

Just get what your buddy has. If it's satisfying it will keep you off of cigarettes. Or what is he using? Some people might give you a good idea of what works and is worth the money

No, e-cigs are not worth trying. I tried every single one I could get my hands on and still smoked. I'd echo the above suggestion and tell you to just get what your buddy has if you liked it. I mean, if you liked it, and you think it would work for you, the search is over. Just find a good price and order.
If you're looking for a great setup with room to experiment if you want to get rowdy and blow clouds, or can be dialed down for a beginner - try a 50 watt iStick with a Kanger Sub Tank Mini. I'm fully convinced that setup is one if the best values in the game right now.
Another suggestion - if you want to quit smoking get a juice that appeals to you (duh, but there are all types of flavors, not just tobacco), and start out with the right nicotine level for you and a PG/VG ratio that is higher in PG. I'd suggest 70% PG, 30% VG. The reason for that is that higher PG juices have more "throat hit". The tingle in your throat you get from smoking. You'll miss that throat hit if you start with a high VG juice. Once you've quit and are for sure free of the cigarette cravings, you'll probably want something smoother so try a higher VG juice.
Go for it! You've got nothing to lose, and better health to gain! And if you start vaping join casaa. We need all the help we can get.

AWESOME!!!

Update:

I fired up the cheesy ecigs and smoked off those and my buddys high end mod for the last couple days. Did the trick. The difference the first day was indescribable. Still been having a couple regular cigs a day, but vaping for the most part.

I got lucky here, exactly what i needed. The improvement in quality of life was so profound that something in my head "switched" like i mentioned in the OP. I really haven't even been finding real cigs all that appealing. The one i had this afternoon instantly made me feel like dragon feces after two hits.

For now, the plan is to substitute with vapor, and go from there wherever the next natural step seems to be. Ill know when or what that is when the time comes.

Today i picked up a pretty good unit after educating myself over the weekend. My budget was limited, so i went with an eGo ONE. Nothing special, but not eCig junk either and does the job quite well.

Thank you all so much for sharing, and for sparking the interest in vaping. I foolishly wrote it off for so long, but saw the light because of your stories.

Excellent! Say, let me know if you need any gear. I have a few setups I'm not using, and I'd be proud to send them on to you if it'll help you stay off the stank sticks. Just let me know. And congrats! I hope you can ditch em altogether!
That first day for me was night and day. I promised my friend (who bought me my first setup) that when I ran out of cigs I'd try the vape. I tried it and something "clicked". It just worked for me and I haven't looked back. I have zero desire for cigarettes.

I commend everyone for quitting or trying to quit smoking. Not an easy thing to do and it is even harder for some people. My little bit of advice it stay away from the things that tempt you the most. Other people, certain places, limit driving if possible whatever it is that is a trigger for you.

My opinion on vaping is this. I'm sure it's by far the lesser of two evils health wise. If it will help you quit smoking that is great. Just remember though, by switching one habit for another doesn't change the addiction part. Addicts struggle with going from one addiction to another. Ask yourself "if i ran out of the liquid for vaping would I tear the house apart looking for some or would I have, and I mean have, to go to the store?" You are still being in a controlled situation.

I'm not meaning any offence, I'm just saying an addiction is an addiction. From experience, I can tell you that the craving might never go away, but the satisfaction of not having that panic feeling of what am I going to do or I got to find a way to get to a store is indeed a great feeling.

I also think that vaping has not been popular enough to know its full effects no matter what they say. Just my opinion.

Agreed on the replacement point. However, the biggest single reason it has taken taken me so long to take a step was exactly that. I didn't want a substitute or crutch. I wanted to be rid of the prison of nicotine. Everything had to be perfect.

Anyway, it kinda dawned on me that that mentality was getting me nowhere. So i figured the lesser of two evils was the best place to start. Its now been only one day since smoking a real cig at all, and the benefit is exponentially higher than it was even yesterday. My resting heart rate is already 63 down from around 75-80, and my BP has returned to normal. Wow!

Antdog, thank you so much for your offer. Great form and proof of great people here. Ill hit you up in the future.

Thx.

I completely understand the desire to get away from nicotine altogether but for me personally, I don't mind the addiction. I have to have my coffee in the morning too but that never bothered me either.

I switched from smoking to vaping to get away from the toxins and to save some money. In the 23 months that I've been smoke free I've managed to save about $1800 from what I used to spend on cigarettes. A little less than $100 a month. Yes, I've been keeping track since day 1. Not a phenomenal amount but a decent savings.

Whether or not I've gotten away from the toxins has yet to be proven but I'm pretty confident about it. The white tissue test that I mentioned in an earlier post speaks volumes in my opinion.

I'm still addicted to nicotine but that never was a problem for me in the first place. It was the health risks, the expense, and the stink that I had issues with. Most, if not all, of those issues are much more tolerable with vaping.

I can realistically see myself quitting the vape within 2 months.

The dip stays. Doing AA without a lip in just doesn't feel right. As it is, I usually hit an average of 15 meetings a week. That means a can of Copenhagen lasts 3-4 days.

You should try to quit dipping too. Just my friendly wish. It will f up your gums, not to mention the change of getting cancer from it (but then again, what doesn't cause this these days anyways?).

Still goin strong on the eGo One. Great little unit, but now im slowly learning that its not as simple as just getting a stick and vaping. These damn things are so finicky and problem prone you have to pick up one more hobby to nerd out on just to keep them working. I never wanted to know how to rebuild a coil, clear an atomizer, troubleshoot air flow vs ohms vs volts, understand AC to DC conversions, cycle and count batteries, or mix my own juice, but lucky me, now i know.

Oh well, ill take it.

Just about 5 days straight no tobacco and i feel absolutely amazing. Crazy how something can subtly take over in more ways than you realize. Im finding renewed interest in more active hobbies, have a newly warped (in a positive way) view on reality, and hell, even eating better. Craving veggies and less meat. Oreos and pizza look like dog crap covered in rat poison to me. Lost a visible portion of my gut already.

Hope this keeps up.

Thx.

I jogged approx 1/2 mile this morning. Tomorrow morning, more PT.

M/W/F... jogging. Tuesday is pushups and Thursday is situps.

I rarely get sick. But one time when I was down and my throat was super rough, smoking actually hurt, so I took advantage of the situation as an anti smoking initiator. I will admit wanting to light up a stomped out on the street butt, covered in dog excrement for a month or two, but that passed, along with most of my surliness to the wife. It's been 13 years now I believe.
