Okay, so for everyone who is smart enough to not read through all five pages and just replies to the op, this is for you; so my dad and I recently worked out a deal, i get my GPA to 3.6 by the end of the year, and i can restart my collection. And for others, this thread helped me out bigtime, and I would like to keep this thread alive for others who would like some tips on this matter, so for any new posters, head your post with a 1. If your adding your two cents for anyone with parent vs. knife dillemas, and head your post with a 2. If you are commenting on a sub conversation that was spawned from the op, thanks.
As a side note, there is no need to further direct your comments to me, just leave your post for any other young ones searching this thread for advice.

hell when I was your age my mother said knifes where to danger so my dad got my a ak47 gun. my parents where divorce. he keep it at his house. that went over really good.

First kudos to you for considering your parents before your purchase. I admire you being respectful to them, some kids your age do what they want with the money they have.

When it comes to advice, sadly in your situation I can give you none. Try doing something for your dad that he would REALLY appreciate, and slide in a reference to the ZT 0200. He'll come around :)

hey when i was your age (im only 21 now) i had the exact same problem. 'you should put it toward your car payment' 'dont you want to go to school' ect the list never ended. my dad is a hardcore snomobiler. hes spend probably 50 grand inmy life onnew machines and upgrades and gear. but thats not my thing. my dad guilted me into spending my money on what he wished he would have spent it on if it were his money. but its not his. its mine. my argument was 1.im paying all of my bills on time 2. i have other money set aside for my future investments 3 i dont do drugs, i dont drink, i dont smoke, i dont buy more than 2 xbox games a year, i dont hire hookers, i help out around the house... what else is my money for fun supposed to go to just because you dont want to buy knives? has anyone gotten hurt? am i breaking the law? im using them at work to make money. its my passion. its what i enjoy, and you have your crap id sell in a heartbeat to buy more knives! finally now im married, moved out, and he loves his snomobiles and hes happy, and i love my knives and im happy, and im happy he is happy and he is happy im happy

Thanks, good news is regardless when im 18 or whenever i move out, i can get knives till im broke, (not a good idea) but ya later on i can get it im just kind of pushing to get it now, so i do know not to be to upset if the end my collection now.

Your parents are more than likely trying to instill a sense of monetary responsibility in you which sometimes means we have to wait for the things we want. Odds are they don't want to see you make what they may consider to be a mistake with that much money, but sometimes we learn more from making mistakes than we do by someone telling us how NOT to make the mistake! I'm not saying I think it would be a mistake to order this knife, but I'm not saying it isn't either! You need to make the decision on your own. Part of growing up is learning to take responsibility for the things you do:)

Respectful decision: Wait till you move out or try to convince them.

Less Respectful Decision: If you earned the money to purchase a ZT yourself, you could go behind your parents back and ask someone else to use their cc and shipping address, pay cash at a brick and mortar store, or pay with a money order you'd get from the bank and have the knife shipped to a friends house. If your parents aren't knife people- odds are they won't notice the diff between the ZT and the others you already own!

Whatever you decide- remember that YOU made the decision so YOU need to accept the consequences!

Sounds about like my parents when it came to things they didn't like. It was very hard to have a serious conversation, because they didn't take me seriously for the longest time. The battle for getting a motorcycle is what I had the hardest time with, but I prevailed. :)

Start slow, I know when I would try bombarding them with my wants and needs to get the next greatest toy all it did was get them pissy with me. Show some interest, and mention it here and there. Mention why you would enjoy having such a nice knife, and crap like that.

Now, you could just go another route which worked for me plenty of times. Just buy the knife, and intergrate it into your system. They probably won't even notice it's a knife they have never seen before. :D

Have they seen the knife in question dude?

Pick a less tactical looking one and see if they mind then. Go for a nice traditional styled folder, it'll be a good thing for your growing collection and will look alot less like a weapon - and that's usually the problem parents will have with their young ones having knives.

Good advice. Start with a Swiss army or small traditional. Then tell them you are starting collection. When you ask for the ZT it will be just to fill out your collection.

Tell your folks tonight at dinner that you've decided to sell all you're knives and start collecting Barbie dolls. I bet that ZT0200 will magically appear.;)

Yes they have seen the knife,
I have 3 swiss folders already, plus a 15 inch, pound and a half bowie i got in texas for vacation,
Its not about looks, it might for my dad but my mom has offered to get me a kukri, until we saw the $400 tag, (just a little over priced no? Wasn't even full tang, or sharp for the matter)
And ya thats how i got my buck knife, but the problem is that i really want a nice looking well built combat made folder to top my collection, the well built part because i plan on using the $200 steel if it was just display id settle for an aluminum blade, the nice looking and combat part for the artistic and military interests.

Screw the ZT, get a GEC.

I've got an idea that I'm almost sure you won't like, but hear me out.

If your Dad doesn't carry a knife, buy him one that he will carry. It doesn't have to be expensive, maybe a nice little SAK. Let him see how handy it is to have a knife when you need to open the mail or a package or cut a sandwich or peel an apple. Let him see it as a very practical tool. People who have a knife are less likely to deny you having one, or another one ;^)

Maybe Mom would like one too.

IDK man, never had that dilemma, I was always aloud to have dangerous things espescially knives because they are not a weapon but simply a tool
