How do i convince my parents to let me purchase another knife

I understand that many people on this forum are parents themselves, I respect your opinions, but I would just like to share my experiences and some advice which may contradict your own. Apologies in advance.

I was 13 when I had the same problem. I was just getting into fishing at the time and we're getting our saltwater licenses when I asked if I could buy the knife on the counter. I didn't know it at the time but now that I think back to it was a $14 strider SMF ripoff. After that I kept bugging them to buy me another knife but they wouldn't buy me one. They were fine with me having a knife, just not buying me more. I saved up some money and got a couple buck knives and a mora from the local hunting and fishing store. The prices were outrageous. To my parents the knives sortov showed up, no big deal. Then on vacation my mom bought me a short Kabar, which is awesome. The next day she bought about 20 assorted bowie knives from a vendor in Thailand for me and my friends as souvenirs. A couple months after we got back she took them all away for some reason I don't remember. Haven't seen those knives since, and now because of a summer job and a part time job at my families recently acquired restaurant I have an arsenal of knives I only dreamt of a year ago(strider, busses, customs, benchmades, spydercos etc). My parents don't completely approve of the idea yet to get me one for say a birthday present but they know that I love knives and being outdoors. They got over the idea that I'd turn into a knife wielding psychopath years ago. I'm alway mature about the subject and never fool around with my knives, that's probably why they trust me. Btw I'm also 15 right now, heres a bit of advice. If you ever lend your knife to a friend to cut something with or just hold onto, be prepared to sharpen out the dings and chips. I'm not into knife tricks too much, those "knife dance" videos going around Facebook scare me because sharp knives tend to cut deeper than dull knives, and I have no dull knives. I always carry legally. If your parents won't let you buy another knife at all I recommend using a prepaid credit card and getting your knives shipped to a friends house. This would confirm your dads theory about knives being sneaky :).
Hope at least some of this helps, good luck convincing your dad and if you can't there are other options...

Easy. Dont argue about it, you dont have to explain yourself. Do you have to explain yourself if you decide you like oranges more than apples? You like something, and you want something. Interrogate THEM. Ask them why they dont want you to have it. I guarantee, you can counter every possible reason.

I however, may be biased by having been a mature 15 year old and treated as such. I never had to deal with these sorts of problems :)

Keep saving, then when you're 18 order a $3000 custom knife that's everything you could ever ask for, then never buy another knife :D

Thanks for all the advice, to cover some of the comments, the price; i have enough saved already, well for the many secondary markets online where i found it for 120, as for the advice from parents, i appreciate your insights, and for others i don't plan on buying it behind there back, if i cant get it now when im fifteen the 0200 will be the first addition to my adult collection later on. Thanks for all the advice, again...

Yeah, thats a good idea, only problem is my dad is an accountant and he has already gotten me set up with a savings account and has me work out what to do with the money i get and all that crap(not in a bad way) hell he even makes me listen to dave ramsey with him. He says hes just not a knife guy, and he doesn't see why a 15 yr old should collect knives, my moms neutral and to the left on my side (more about getting my dad to have a serious talk about this), but ya thank your for the advice, my mom has got my dad to agree to talk about this all this weekend, and this goes to anyone else who is willing to give me advice, (not in a rude way, tho might just be me who read that last phrase weirdly) i more need advice on aspects of every day use around the house, like why its good or at least not bad for me to have a higher quality knife around, and why it would be fine and how i can prove to them that it wasn't a mistake later on. Thanks

Your parents are looking out for your priorities. It's true you do not need that many knives. You may want them but you definitely don't need them.
I would say respect your parents wishes, stop collecting until you turn of age and then you can do what you want.
I'd say don't try to circumvent them. Just do the right thing, and be responsible. I am sure once you prove yourself you can get your parents to be okay with it.

Im in a similar position. My folks don't always seem to support my hobby of using and collecting knives.
So how do I remedy this?
I switched to liking traditionals. IMO theyre less scary looking.
Then just trade or sell some knives you dont like.
If one breaks, make sure your parents know.
Designate knives to certain tasks. "I need this knife for camping, this one for fishing..." so on.
And never go behind their backs.
Good luck with that ZT, ill be sticking with my Mercator

I would say screw the zt and get a manix 2 or paramilitary 2. Then hopefully cutting the price in half will lighten them up a bit about you getting it. That basically what I did when collecting. At first when my parents paid for my knives I had 4 cheap knives. 35 bucks was my most expensive. I then got a job, got into spyderco's after some persuasion, and then some custom work. Which was REALLY hard but I saved for over 3 months and bought it for a Christmas present to myself. Hopefully in the end you get that zt though!

Make them remember a time when they wanted something and still think about it all the time. I remember when I was your age, I wanted to play paintball so bad, but my parents didn't think it was worth it. After about a year of wanting to play, I finally saved enough money to get a gun and shortly after that all my friends kind of stopped playing. I was pissed. I still wish I had been able to play.

Ok, so thanks for all of the help and kindness towards me, two things, one, does a mod have to close the thread (like, its just not there) or can the person who started it? Two, my parents have govon me the permission to start my collection back up, i decided to get a really cheap $20 generic folder and get use to using it for everything useful thing i can do with a blade, cut boxes for the recycling bin, to cut anything from duck tape to string in place of scissors, widdle n crap, etc. (I know those sound like lesser uses, im just too lazy to remember what else right now, yet a lengthy explanation describing my laziness is... Faster???) any way, basically a cheap "practice" blade to get used to how i keep the quality of the edge in check, and expand my horizen of productive uses for a blade in my house to help convince my own brain im npt just getting more expensive production knives just because the look cool and are supposed tp be good.
Anywho... My dads okay with me collecting, (thanks to everyones help with what i should do) and now obtaining the zt0200 is only a matter of the cost, but recently i have grown a fondness for the unique designs of the kershaw shallot and speed bump, so now i need to choose what i save for...

I have got same problems with my parents (I´m 13) they just can´t understand that collection with just two SAK´s ,broken mora and two homemade fixed blades isn´t collection. And I would really need a good folder (right now I am trying to get manix 2).

Sell one your of your other knives and get the zt to "replace it". Also work around the house to gain money and if your not already, pay for it with that money.

well i wasn't into knives when i was your age but i definitely am now..i'm 23 and going to university atm so still live with my parents and even though i do not need their permission to buy knives or anything, i've come to realize that people who are not into knives (which is most ppl) will never really understand our fascination with knives. people i've talked to can't understand why i keep buying more knives when i already have a bunch sitting at home. unfortunately at your age your parents are gonna have a say in what you buy but i guess all i can tell you is you can look forward to one day being able to make your own decisions on what to buy and your only limitation will be how much cash you got!

my parents don´t let me to purshade knife for 60$ even 15$ mora was problem. And 15$ mora is my most expensive knife:foot:.

Just be responsible with your knives, take good care of them ,don't take them where your not supposed to have them, Remember It's a tool not a weapon, Then look at what your going to use the knife for, at 15 years old I don't think you would really "need" a zt 0200, I just can't imagine any tasks you might have that require a "hard use" knife, That being said look at a spyderco, great knives that will cut like nobodys business, IMO a para 2 If you could find one would probably be the knife for you or even a benchmade griptillian, both are smaller and lighter than the ZT, and they cost less, well paras do when dealers actually have them , and your not paying the inflated price by people trying to make a huge profit off of a knife because nobody has them right now. Glad to see your parents came around, based on what you said you would be using a knife for IMO there are a lot better options out there for you other than the 0200.

ik i wouldnt really use it, and I know how heavy it is, I want it because of the design and the overkill bolts, I want it so i can fill the proffesional bad butt heavy duty beauty spot in my collection, that I would use if I ever needed too, I agree that I dont really "need" the 0200 and dont really have any "hard use" tasks that I would be doing on a regular basis. It looks good, it is well made, reliable metal, and for me, the price isnt an issue (retail is, but several sites sell it for lower than 120 bucks), and for my singular mind (really only ever am able to focus on one item in a catagory, no two favorites of anything
(1/2)

What kind if dad wouldn't let his son get more knives? Tisk tisk. ... sorry man
uuuuuuuh, mine when i was his age..... granted i Literally had ever knife behind the Cabela's and Sportsman's knife display counter haha

Veni,
for the price, save up a couple more $$ and buy a sebenza, lighter & just as druable

seems like you have covered all the possible options and rather than regurgitate what everyone else has said, the only thing i can suggest is go out and buy a prepaid visa card and buy the knife yourself since chances are you have to use their credit/debit card to purchase online then call the dealer have them ship it via usps (you pay extra charges for the shipping if applicable) and make sure they mark the package to be held at the post office for you to bike/walk to pick it up
