how do you carry a fixed blade

Just this weekend I've started experimenting with carrying one of my Finnish puukko's in one of those "dangly" belt-loop sheaths. It seems a little un-American (or un-Canadian) but it's really not bad. It swings freely and stays out of my way (no jokes, please). However, it hangs low and may get some comment if I wear it to the local 7-11. It does not jump up and poke me in the rib-cage when I sit, like some of the high-rise rigid kydex sheaths I wear with my Mora Clipper.

Hey Hammer, have you (or anyone else) done any business with this company? And if so, your experience?

Doc

I'm afraid I haven't done business with them but the quality of the gear and the site itself leads me to believe they'd be fine to order from.
I tend to order directly from the manufacturers but I have used Brigade Quartermasters (http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/agcatalog/index.tam) and SKD Tac (http://www.skdtac.com/index.asp) as well as OP tactical (http://www.optactical.com/index.html)

I go simple and use a shoulder rig that can be used as a neck carry. Here my Mora 2ooo can be seen as I make a two man shelter in Peru. It keeps out of the way when using a machete. On/Scene Tactical sheath. Thanks Eric.

Fonly necker style or on strap eith right side up or upsidedown as pictured in bear's thread is good for winter

I carry a tak-1 on the belt vertical and a sak in the pocket and a RAT -7 OR BK7 horizontal on top of my fishing fanny pack, hard to explain but i picked up a eagle claw brand fishing fanny pack at wally world in the sale section $5, and store survival related items in and on top of main compartment it has two straps for lashing a large pair of pliers or item that will not fit in pack main compartment and i lash RAT7 or BK7 to it easy access for my chopper.

I typically use a drop carry on my thigh... mostly on SAR ops.

Seems to ride well, and keeps stuff where I want it...

Vary your sources, practice your methods.

Usually carried my Fallkniven F1 on my belt, right side, and a Victorinox Trekker in a beltpouch, left side.

Might give the baldric idea a go with my Mora 2K once I get my sheath from Normark.

I carry up to an 8 1/2" overall length fixed blade in the tool pocket of my carpenter jeans. Leatherman Surge on my belt. In the Leatherman sheath I carry a diamond rod and a craftsman 1/4" drive ratchet. These are the two I EDC.

If not in a belt sheath, I will take a length of bicycle inner tube, run my belt through it, and then insert the sheath knife for small of back carry.
The same cheapo sheath can hold an asp as well, though it is considerably heavier.

This way I can still carry while in an urban environment, and not get strange looks.

I carry on the belt my fixed blade on my strong side, and to balance the load I carry the Katz Cheetah on the other side on the belt.

I spend quite abit of time wearing a housecoat, and Normark makes a great sheath that clips on the housecoat pocket for carrying one of my 4 inch skinners. If you are not into belts, Normark makes a sheath that is versatile and can be worn in many different ways.

Depends on what I'm doing...

Big Blades go on the strong side, belt carry.
Pocket Knives generally hang on my pocket.
Camp knives go in the pack or on the side.

Nothing fancy but they all come out when needed.

I like to carry mine either vertical on the belt on my side riding high or horizontal on my belt in the front and back. When I have them horizontal, it seems to be much more comfortable. When I do them vertically, I notice myself constantly shifting it around. I carry a fixed blade EVERY SINGLE DAY. It's a skinner type 3" blade with a approx. 5" handle. I carry it everyday horizontal over my belt buckle. I love it.

Another way to carry is the baldric it keeps the knife handy when wearing winter coat and also good when wearing a pack keeps the knife handy but not in the way of straps below is the link from Kevin Estela on how to make one. (see post #25) the cobra knot also has many uses such as covering a knife handle or a grip for a walking stick. ect. ect.

I like quick draw sheaths on my strong side belt. I usally opt for a drop of some sort to get the handle under my pack's waist belt. That's sometimes too tricky, and I'll opt for shoulder carry on the pack, but I really like my knife and pack being unattached.

I will probably get teased for this one.

I like the baldric style, but the braid doesn't seem that comfortable to me, and a straight paracord line itself is far too thin for the weight of my knife. So I grabbed the foam padded camera strap off my old 35mm SLR and attached it to the bottom (tip) of the kydex sheath and wear this rig Baldric-style.

It is super comfy, the foam stretches a little allowing me to wear the rig with right placement over just a t-shirt or over my gortex shell. However, the stretch isn't so much as to interfere with withdrawing the knife when the knife is pulled in a quick motion.
